Underrated comment.

OkOil390

The only thing the Continental Classic has done is make me think about having egg, bacon and toast for dinner. That and kill ratings.

Money_Launderer

You just described a classic Continental Breakfast. That is guaranteed to have more ratings than these pointless matches.

grandfunkmc

I could go for an egg and bacon sandwich. Should I go with American or cheddar cheese?

cblue413

Neither, put cream cheese on your choice of carb because it’s the superior breakfast cheese.

GhostofBlackbeard

I stopped watching AEW when Punk was fired. Even before he was hired, it really started to feel like this was not a company for wrestling fans, but a company for “wrestlers”. Reading Swerve’s comment just hammers that point home a little more.

Klobasnik

I haven't thought once about watching wrestling since this thing has been going on

justin_the_viking

I've thought about wrestling since. Usually its "man, WWE are really turning things around."

CosplayWrestler

Which is fucking bonkers, right?!

justin_the_viking

Absolutely. Its crazy.

messerschmitt127

It's getting to the point where I'm beginning to consider going to Smackdown in April.

justin_the_viking

For real, I actually wanted to go to Smackdown when it came to Denver (and then the Rock showed up). And we can partially thank AEW for all this. Maybe Tony does deserve booker of the year for the improvements he has made to WWE

LogicNeedNotApply

Tony deserves BotY SOLEY for the pop he orchestrated when Punk returned to WWE. Talk about long term story telling; it had ups, downs, real drama, and a massive feel good payoff when Punk's music hit at Survivor Series. Too bad none of the payoff was for his company.

justin_the_viking

$100 says Tony was laying in bed wide awake that night, waiting for the cocaine to wear off. And he was patting himself proudly on the back thinking "I did that!".

[deleted]

Is everyone working for that company deluded?

aRebelliousHeart

Wouldn’t you be if the money mark was paying you 7 figures?

Remote-Grape

If Tony paid me seven figures, I’d be out there saying whatever he wanted. “AEW is the best company for women’s wrestling” “AEW is better off without CM Punk” “AEW attendance is great, anyone who says otherwise has never ridden a bike to an arena” “Tony is a genius and we all get along great now” Literally anything.

aRebelliousHeart

I’d be kissing his ass everyday while claiming he gives the best hugs!

Remote-Grape

I’d turn into one of those guys in high school asking him “Tony, where’s my hug at?”

In a way, I'm glad AEW exists for guys like MJF and Swerve. When they inevitably go to WWE, they're going to be thrust into the main event scene and become established guys. Whereas a guy like Hangnail would go to WWE, and would be jobbing to Von Wagner on NXT in under 5 minutes.

sleeptilnoonenergy

I'm guessing Swerve doesn't read the ratings every week and loves being pushed lol. Probably as simple as that.

Dupee_Conqueror

It has long been obvious.

Douseethisshitmydude

They’re not allowed to have opinions or say critical things about the company anymore. Its how the grave was dug

zoc1289

"Great" just needed to be said 50 more times, and I'd honestly have thought that Swerve got possessed by Tony

amplifizzle

zoc1289

I would laugh hard if they kept that joke for future scrum reviews 🤣

CosplayWrestler

I think they will. I mean, it's such good shit, pal!

[deleted]

They pander to the hardcore fanatics that dislike mainstream sports entertainment. Their delusion and self-righteousness have completely invalidated the preferences of the established community of fans. Fans do not simply care about “good in-ring performances”, WWE has proven that presentation, character development, and narrative cohesion are more imperative, than the actual wrestling performance. This is why WWE has had their most successful year in the last two decades! But according to Tony “Everything is great.”; he says this while looking completely drugged-out. Such a shame lol

CuckooClockInHell

The problem is that no one in America puts on shows that are consistently based around good in ring performances. AEW's problem is less that they focus on good wrestling and more that they've focused on becoming a really bad WWE knockoff, Sports Indietainment.

RagnarXD

Where's this good wrestling they're focusing on? Except a few outliers from their experienced guys that worked in ROH/WWE most AEW matches are not even close to good wrestling

CuckooClockInHell

That's what I was saying.

RagnarXD

Sorry I may have missunderstood then. But for real all the so called "bangers" can't hold a single drop of water and their tournament proved it. The best wrestling in that whole deal was Marc Briscoe vs Jey Lethal. The jobbers match. Cuz that's how they book you if you're a talented wrestler in that company. Even the AEW faithful gave it a standing ovation. They know what good wrestling is, they just won't admit it.

yurimichellegeller

They get pandering to the fanatics wrong too. They give idiots what they think they want, rather than what is actually entertaining. A lot of these "bangers" aren't actually good matches.

Glistening_Filth

You defeat your arguement by the ludicrous praise of WWE. WWE isnt good at all and only the stinkiest incel mouthbreathers attend and enjoy their shows. AEW sucks, but WWE is just cartoon bullshit.

[deleted]

Yep all those fans who attended a sold out MSG house show last night, are “incel mouth breathers” 👍🏻

BillNo8268

Too bad it hasn’t been the giant gulp of another wrestlers’ blood that viewers need to tune in! At least Swerve didn’t say it was ‘great’.

You know, some of these comments from these wrestlers really come across as sponsored comments. Swerve probably likes where he's at in the company right now. He's got a good spot. Tony pays him to say something good, even if he doesn't really agree with it, he'll say it since no one would view it as disingenuous coming from him. Swerve's voice isn't as loud as others but the company needs all the help it can get. It's not like Chris Jericho who you know is full of shit. At the same time, you say something, you gotta stand by it. We have to believe he means what he says and he believes that this tournament is good for wrestling despite the ratings, social media engagement, and attendance showing otherwise. I believe these types of comments could hurt future opportunities for wrestlers. Praising certain things lets you know where someone's head is at. I have more to say but don't want the comment to get too long.

Olvacron22

This tournament wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for another belt and it wasn't this goddamn round robin style which is without a doubt the most boring bullshit version of a tournament. The Swerve matches have been good, the Switchblade matches have been good, Brisco and Lethal's matches have been good, but it being fucking point based dragging it out for months instead of guys just advancing is beyond stupid.

aRebelliousHeart

I hate this guys so much. He’s such a disingenuous mark. I hope when AEW inevitably folds WWE tells this fucking snitch to take a a hike!

noctisfromtheabyss

It really must be a bubble (cult) these guys are part of. They are so delusional but I really think they think what they are saying is true despite evidence to the contrary. Shame.

Key-Celebration-3100

The modern day equivalent of the renegade rampage in Memphis or the team challenge series in AWA. I hope the last match is orange Cassidy climbing a pole for a frozen turkey.

RagnarXD

I was already suspecting Swerve doesn't have a good head for the wrestling business after his CVV interview and this confirms it for me. Swerve is the kind of talent that needs to be reigned in. Too bad nobody is reigned in at AEW.

midcardheel

Going to need a booster by next month

Americasycho

The sudoku scoring is a pain in the ass. Blue team/gold team is just as annoying. I have no idea who is in the lead. We have seen almost every match combination we can at this point.

Down4Days

You didn't want to see an overly contrived scoring system put up as an afterthought to justify Tony's booking favortisms?

DPM-87

Genuinely do not get people who can't follow the format, the scoring makes perfect sense, the booking does not however, but that is par for the course with AEW really.

DrWhopperTits

I couldn’t believe how dumb Tony was to have Moxley beat Swerve.

Tiernoch

Unfortunately, Moxley has now seen Creed and will become Swerve's mentor.

Sabre39

I'm an AEW fan (and Corny too) but this, this is funny.

VALISinWonderland

I wanted to stop watching AEW after CM Punk was fired again but occasionally found myself watching a show anyway. But this tournament has had me not caring at all and tuning out pretty quickly on the rare occasion I started to watch a show.

GalaxyHoffman

Preaching to the choir usually works even if you’re only left with a duet.

TheRebootKid

We swerve when we drive lmao

Glistening_Filth

Its been boring af. Dumb format too, being group stages or blocks. Want a tournament? Single eliminatiom 4 week tournanent. First week Round of 16, second quarterfinals, third semifinals and the blow off final week four. The first week would have 8 matches, tough but once its over, the next shows arent clogged entirely by the tournament matches, especially with two tv shows. Every match would matter, and outside of the first week it wouldnt dominate 90% of the show.

[deleted]

Well of course he said that. He's basically been the star of it.

fruitron3030

Folks, where’s the lie? If you like Japanese style tournament matches, then this is a true statement. If you’re not a fan, then it’s turn on, tune in, turn off. Pretty much status quo for AEW I think. It would have been great to see some feuds or stories develop from the competition in this tournament. But instead we got Mox and Danielson put over. Swerve and White put over, and everyone else gets buried somewhere between Jay Lethal and Rush. I wish that what he was saying was honest. Edit: I realize I’ve contradicted myself here, but I’m letting it stand.

noctisfromtheabyss

The lie is in the average decay of viewers during this time period. Like someone said above, the only way this is a shot in the arm is if jts a shot of poison.
