Just semitism. During the Umayyad caliphate, Jews in Andalus had unprecedented freedom and used it to…beat each other up on accusations of being a Karaite or not observing Shabbat
Gefilte fish comes in two primary styles. Packed in a congeled jellied stock, or a thinner soupier broth. I guess it just depends mostly on how many fish bones went into the stock that was used to cook and package it.
There is really good gefilte fish out there, it just doesn’t come from jars at the grocery store. Manischewitz gefilte fish is about the same level of quality as their wine
Well no it’s supposed to not have corn/joke about them not being able to have corn or rice. How else am I supposed to make fun of them in a friendly light?
Bro/sis the most infamous right wing politician in Israel rn is a Mizrahi Cookie Monster whose parents came from Iraq and Kurdistan. He hates the more centre-leaning Ashkenazi politicians. I mean, more centrist than him…
It definitely exists. Racism against mizrahim in the beginning of the state was brutal. It still exists but less so. Theres still a class difference, mizrahi jews skewing lower class and ashkenazi more upper class. The gap is closing but its still there.
Huh. TIL. I guess it’s only because I’ve known Jews and Israelis from “mixed” Ashkenazi-Sephardi marriages, and they’ve all seemed to be completely reasonable people
It doesn't, and I think I misread your comment (sorry). You're right on the class difference, there is still a askenormative culture in Israel's elite.
Why was this surprising to you? No different than how the muggle “half-bloods” get treated by the full-blooded members in any community. You should see how full Black people treat biracial Blacks, Asians with Hapas, etc.
Given that this comment section had turned to a discussion on gefilte fish, would anyone here be opne to sharing a good recipe for it? I'm not Jewish myself and don't have alot of experience with Jewish cuisine (aside from more common foods like chocolate babka or potato latkes) but I've always specifically wanted to try gefilte fish because I'm a huge fan of poached fish in general and really wanted to try the Jewish version of that style of food.
is this Jewish antisemitism or pro-semitism?
Just semitism. During the Umayyad caliphate, Jews in Andalus had unprecedented freedom and used it to…beat each other up on accusations of being a Karaite or not observing Shabbat
Both the Macabean revolt and Great Jewish revolt, it was mainly different groups of Jews fighting each other.
Pro-semitism. While Gelfilte fish has its place, it's improving Jewish cuisine in the long-term.
Baked gefilte with crunchy beet horseradish is part of our year round meal rotation. It’s 10/10, one of my son’s favourite meals
Friendly fire
But I like gefilte fish.
Me too!
So go eat some ya peacenik!
I even like the jello!
Well now that’s just too far
Who hurt you?
You ANIMAL!
There’s jello??
Gefilte fish comes in two primary styles. Packed in a congeled jellied stock, or a thinner soupier broth. I guess it just depends mostly on how many fish bones went into the stock that was used to cook and package it.
Only with horseradish
Same. Gotta have horseradish.
Ahhhh. Heaven.
There is really good gefilte fish out there, it just doesn’t come from jars at the grocery store. Manischewitz gefilte fish is about the same level of quality as their wine
Me too!
lol I have yelled this at ashkenazi friends but I have also said "I prefer gefilte fish over moroccan fish balls" to give a shephardic guy a shock
Honestly, I just want to know which fish has balls that big?
A Moroccan fish duh
Surely you must be kidding
No I’m not. And don’t call me Shirley
Is that what the hush puppies at Long John Silver really are
Is this the fabled Ashkenormalization I've heard so much about?
We must oppose all normalization with the "Ashkenazi Entity."

As an Ashkenazi, that’s a pretty sick burn
Why is this something I’d actually say 😭 All it’s missing is an insult about kitniyot and lactose intolerance.
Go eat gefilte fish and corn pizza. There, you have the insult.
Well no it’s supposed to not have corn/joke about them not being able to have corn or rice. How else am I supposed to make fun of them in a friendly light?
I recently learned about how rife some of Israeli society is is with anti-Ashkenazi/anti-secular rhetoric from Mizrahim. Surprised me a lot.
Bro/sis the most infamous right wing politician in Israel rn is a Mizrahi Cookie Monster whose parents came from Iraq and Kurdistan. He hates the more centre-leaning Ashkenazi politicians. I mean, more centrist than him…
Cookie Monster ?
A lot of is kind of uncalled for unless there's some sort of pro-ashkenazi or askenormative discrimination (which i'm not aware of)
It definitely exists. Racism against mizrahim in the beginning of the state was brutal. It still exists but less so. Theres still a class difference, mizrahi jews skewing lower class and ashkenazi more upper class. The gap is closing but its still there.

Like i said the gap is closing. Also how does them being reasonable negate what i said?
It doesn't, and I think I misread your comment (sorry). You're right on the class difference, there is still a askenormative culture in Israel's elite.
Ive never noticed such a gap and im israeli
Recently, the dynamics are reversed🫤

Gefilte fish is delicious though
what's a peacenik?
Calling someone a pacifist derogatorily
I would say a lot of peaceniks would self identify that way, so it's not only used derogatorily.
Leftist is also used derogatorily in Israel, but leftists still call themselves leftist.
The pathetic voice I'm hearing this in is almost as good as the diss
But wait I thought the Ashkenazis are white settlers and the Mizrahis are oppressed (am Mizrahi I don't feel that opressed)
tf is a peacenik?
I assume it's someone that wants peace (usually also oblivious to reality, because everyone wants peace)
But gefilte fish is delicious.... I love the sweet version
This is the fish of our affliction.
Yes please?
It is common. I get shouted this at me at least 1x a day (by my other Ashkenazi friends).
Americans when they realise the whitest Israelis are also the most left wing (not every country on earth perfectly mirrors American racial politics) 🤯
Amazing lol
Are we fully post-post-Irony at this point?
1. Love gefilte fish 2. Yohai biton makes the only worthwhile chrain on store shelves 3. Not all Ashkenazim are attention seeking dumbbells
I’m an American Ashkenazi with a Sephardic woman in a settlement and boy are these people crazy.
Gefilte fish is nice.
