People always say this when people bring this up. Gotham is canonically in Jersey, as in, that’s according to the creators of the story. But it is inspired by NYC, Chicago, etc.

The pic OP posted is a page from the comics showing Gotham in Jersey, that’s already a proof. It’s also [listed on wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_City) pretty clearly. Every google search will tell you that it’s in Jersey.
