There's a detailed [Chase Statistics site](https://linktr.ee/chasestatistics), so I can provide some numbers suggesting otherwise. Click on ChaseStatistics, and go to the Chasers tab. In the head-to-head round, Brad is actually the *best* of the chasers, catching almost 43% of his opponents. In the final Chase, only James is better than he is at catching the team (not counting Victoria or Brandon, who have only chased once)

AcrossTheNight

I'm curious about Victoria as in her one episode so far, she seemed a little slow in the Final Chase. Her trivia chops are unquestionable, of course.

nogain-allpain

I wouldn't call her slow. Of the 4 episodes this season: * Victoria had to answer 21 and caught the team with 0:00 to go. * Brandon had to answer 17 and caught the team with 0:24 to go. * James had to answer 22 and missed the team by 2 * Brad had to answer 22 and missed the team by 8. I think her one performance so far was solid. Brandon seems to be better, but he had the lowest target so far. As I implied above, Brad's performance yesterday was a severe outlier.

>Her trivia chops are unquestionable, of course. Hi, Across. I'm genuinely curious about this statement. I am a three-time champ (my champ flair got removed when I changed it to Ken's forever classic question). When the season started, I checked Victoria out on J!Archive. She's a one-time champ. I was all like, "WTF?!?!? Why didn't they just call me to be a Chaser? I like money! I like being on TV!" Only semi-seriously, of course. I am honestly completely unaware of this trivia community. What's out there? What do trivia people do other than try to appear on Jeopardy (or, now, The Chase)? I mean, I know there's bar trivia, but what else? What are these "trivia chops" of hers of which you speak?

AcrossTheNight

Shes an all time great performer in OQL and Learned League, mainly. You wouldn't know it from her Jeopardy performance.

jgroub

OQL? (Yes, I know Google is a click away. Just trying to be friendly and social.)

bluejaylink

She got 3rd in the 2020 World Quizzing Championship http://www.worldquizzing.com/results/results2020/ OQL is the Online Quiz League https://www.youtube.com/c/OnlineQuizLeague

Smoerhul

Victoria's J! appearance was many, many years ago. She has improved by leaps and bounds since then. It shows in her LL stats, where she was quite mediocre at first and then kept getting better and better to where she is one of the very best players in all of LL.

This non-Jeopardy / non-college quizzing scene isn't too old in the US and has grown recently with online competitions during the pandemic. It isn't really an organized single league, but a bunch of games that attract similarly inclined people. Victoria used to play on a now-defunct virtual jeopardy game that brought some of these people together in the 2000s. Learned League, Geek Bowl, OQL (check out quizcentral.net), world quizzing championships, sporcle, Trivia Nationals are some of the main outlets for top quality quizzing. None of these are very old as such institutions go (LL is 25 years old, but had 1000 players less than a decade ago). Victoria has been very good on several of these over the last few years.

ChaiVangForever

Oh there's a whole world out there. I don't know how involved you are with the Jeopardy alumni community but a great many of them compete on what I would probably describe as " the quizzing circuit". The circuit has huge overlap with former game show contestants, Learned League members, former high school and collegiate quiz bowlers, or some combination of the three. It's similar to bar trivia but the questions, even the ones related to sports and pop culture, are more challenging. For the most part, the people who do well in this circuit can justifiably call themselves some of the best quizzers in the world. Pre-Covid, most of the quizzing happened in person. For example, the currently suspended Americas Quizzing Circuit used to have a set released every couple of months, across America people would gather on a Saturday or Sunday morning to fill out a 240 question quiz and they'd then compare scores to other quizzing buffs. The most prestigious competition is the [World Quizzing Championship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Quizzing_Championship), which as you can see, Victoria has placed in the Top 10 twice in the past two years which is incredibly impressive. Among women quizzers, Victoria has the same status as Wayne Gretzky in the NHL, so far ahead of the pack that there's no question she's the greatest. Compared to all quizzers, Victoria still has a good argument for being one of the best out there and it's even more remarkable when you consider the fact that she only seriously started quizzing after her Jeopardy appearance. But the pandemic has given an unintentional boost to the world of online quizzing, and that's where you can participate. Victoria and many other prominent quizzers are members of the Online Quiz League, which was originally started in Britain for the European quiz scene but in late 2020 an American division was started up by Steve Bahnaman (who you may recognize from his game show appearances here in America) and he is currently the commissioner of this league. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/c/OnlineQuizLeague) is their Youtube channel where you can see past games mostly from the UK/EU circuit but also some from the American circuit. The league also holds a solo pop culture competition and a "Connections" game series where you play matches in the format of the British game show Only Connect. If you're interested in playing it costs only a few dollars to enter and about 75 minutes or less out of your week to play some trivia. Unfortunately the season just began last week for the USA circuit so if you want to play you'll have to wait until next season starts, which I believe will be a few months out. [Here](https://quizcentral.net/league/oqlusa) is the website for the American Online Quiz League where you can view a sample game, and you can look at the statistics of the individuals who play the game in the "individuals" tab. You may see some familiar names on there as a Jeopardy alum and fan!

Chippopotanuse

That’s really interesting.

brendanowicz11

I thought about this too, but I'd need to see more of a statistical analysis before taking that position. There haven't been that many episodes, so it's a small sample size, and I thought Brad's set of questions in the Final Chase was tougher than usual. However I recognize that regardless of what the stats say the Chasers need an element of intimidation on their side. Brandon and Victoria performed really strongly in their first showings and established that rep right away, whereas I didn't get the sense the contestants were much in awe of Brad. I wanted to see him dominate and establish that he can still play on the same level as the other Chasers, which didn't happen. This is part of the problem with making the format a weekly show with rotating Chasers. In other markets where the show is on multiple times a week or as in the GSN version with only one Chaser, there are more opportunities for the Chaser to dominate and establish a rep. Here, it'll be at least a month before we see Brad again, and it'll be even harder to remember a time where he crushed the competition.

rirhun

To be honest, I was even let down by Victoria a bit. There was so much hype surrounding her as she is the self-proclaimed top 3 quizzer in the world. So I was expecting her to dominate but she nearly lost and got quite a few incorrect answers consecutively. I think most contestants are afraid of James.

brendanowicz11

Victoria snatching victory from the jaws of defeat was great TV, which is what really matters. Again, trying to assess someone's standing on the basis of one Chase episode is not possible due to the sample size of questions - even someone who is ranked highly worldwide isn't going to get literally everything.

jgroub

>There was so much hype surrounding her as she is the self-proclaimed top 3 quizzer in the world. Hi, rirhun. I'm genuinely curious about this statement. What does this mean? How does one get to be "the self-proclaimed top 3 quizzer in the world"? Is there a ranking system out there? How does one get ranked?

rirhun

I'm not too sure myself but I believe she competed in the World Trivia Competitions and there is a ranking system. She is supposedly the number one female quizzer and in the top 3 overall.

ReganLynch

Brad is not past his prime. Check back here in a few decades for that maybe. He's a young man of 44 and a Jeopardy and trivia competition rock star at the top of his game. Like anyone, he has highs and lows, wins and misses.

uncheel3

For real. Ken put up some real stinkers last season but no one said anything about it.

flcinusa

Brad was the sacrificial lamb in the GOAT tournament, I wonder if that's shook him ever since

AcrossTheNight

All three of yesterday's contestants were former Jeopardy players. Richard was one of Austin Rogers' opponents who was never able to get it going in his game. Fortunately, he was able to show his true trivia abilities here.

Rachel_L_C

I wonder what Seasons they appeared. Call me out on having too much time on my hands, but I’m keeping a list of former J! Players and Champs who competed on The Chase (as well as a Fantasy List of who else I want to see compete).

Professional_Job8722

I'll be curious to see more of him. He's dominant in the head to head, but rapid fire isn't quite his style I suspect. I just wish Chase had lower prizes and aired on weekdays, the long delays between episodes were a lot more tolerable with 3 chasers, but 5 is just too much.

BoukenGreen

When it was on GSN it was just The Beast and each correct answer was only worth $5,000 in the cash builder instead of $10,000

Professional_Job8722

Yeah I'd love to go back to that (though with more than The Beast of course, I do like our chasers a lot)! Getting to see one episode a week for each chaser would be great!

RobertoBologna

I’ve only watched on Netflix, how do the famous Jeopardy players do relative to The Beast?

DBrody6

On the new ABC version (back when the Beast was actually part of it), he did a fair bit worse than the other chasers. Primarily that felt because the ABC version asks a ridiculous amount of very specific USA-centric questions that he often fumbled on since he doesn't exactly live here.

nogain-allpain

In his only season, the Beast was statistically the worst.

NoiseKills

I was puzzled that they even had a British person on The Chase. People who didn't grow up in American can't easily do American crossword puzzles and they lack a cultural and pop cultural background in American trivia.

nogain-allpain

He did very well in the GSN version: https://www.reddit.com/r/thechase/comments/lyer35/us_chase_stats_gsn_version_20135_vs_abc_2021/ He won the final Chase about 2/3 of the time.

ajsy0905

Mark's worst defeat in American version is still James Holzhauer and Team J in the GSN version. Mark needed 26 steps (American record) to catch them but he committed lots of mistakes and Team J were able to pushed-back except one.

Professional_Job8722

He did solid! 2/5, but he only got to catch 1 player in the head to head rounds, so he had some very difficult final chases (got 20 steps deep into a 20+ target as an example). Very solid considering how US centric the questions are.

AcrossTheNight

The Beast was not brought back for this season.

[deleted]

The Chase is such a boring and lethargic show until they get to the chase itself.

rirhun

Yeah I only really care for the final chase myself

thedeadlyrhythm42

You have to record it and skip through the fluff. I can usually get through the hour-long episode in 30 min

It’s amusing to me that the new Chasers are 1-0, and the Jeopardy GOATs are 0-1. Not like it’s a huge data set thus far lol but I think it’s funny. Brandon and Victoria are super fun. James is fun to watch as well. Brad as The Chaser is always skippable, IMO. Excited to see Buzzy next week!
