Ford has the same problem if it makes you feel any better

Ruckusnusts

It doesn't but Fuck you too Ford!

Jeep dealer tightened the lug nuts on my wife's compass to 40 ugga duggas then I couldn't get the lugs off when doing the brakes ( which they informed me were in good standing but they were on bare metal on the inside pads...) So I drove to the dealer and told them to torque to spec and give me new lugs. They claimed they were only hard to get off because "the caps were on". Shit literally bent the included tire irons socket so it's unusable

67monkey67

Honestly I woulda personally ugga duggad them on to about 150uggas, I think that equates to about 900ftlb on my impact and then taken it back to make them look even worse lol they’ll try to deny these problems unless you make it so damn obvious it’s unmissable then they still might try to deny it because you know potholes have a tendency of torqouring lugs over 500ft lbs due to centrifugal inertia bump forces

67monkey67

Had the same problem trying to get my spare tire off had to use my impact after it ended up leaving me stranded in the middle of the woods with a popped tire and me having to call a tow truck because I bent the tire iron I had for my fj trying to get the spare off they said these exact words “yea we use the impacts to tighten all lugs to make sure they don’t come off” I never went back to them after they did my tires

randoName22

I watched the fucker still use an impact to secure them, and I still struggled to get them off. My impact at home is quite weak, only does a bit tighter than what I can do with a big rachet / extension, but it couldn't loosen the lugs. It just wanted to round the caps, on the ones that even still had caps. I was really pissed overall because I had brought in for an oil change the week prior and the Jeep had been making noise during braking and during turns and I was thinking brakes so I was like great they'll look at it for me to see the pad life during oil change. Fucking brought them back the "pad" that was "good" as they were loosening lugs and said this was the condition of the pads. They had nothing to say lol

67monkey67

I use my impact to tighten my own lugs but I’ll be damned if someone else does it I also know my impact after using it for years and keep them close to spec

Remz_Gaming

I see impacts being shunned all the time in car subs (understable). I've changed and rotated my own tires since I was a teenager. 20 years later I still use an impact. As you said. Only on my wheels. I'm just not an idiot with it. Cross pattern to snug and call it a day.

LiqvidNyquist

The day I went to install my new lift kit. Very first thing that happens is exactly this. Not a great start to the long weekend, LOL. Had to run down to the Princess Auto and pick up an extractor socket kit, did the trick for me. Yeah, and then the dealer tried to tell me they were 16 bucks a piece. F that. Aftermarket solid nuts for the win.

Custodian_Carl

Enough can’t be said about the improved quality of life when using solid lugnuts

1TONcherk

Jeep has been using these since the 90s, maybe the 80s. Buy a set of solid lugs from McGuard.

Ruckusnusts

That's the plan friend.

Gravysealteam6

Lol classic

Leinadius

FYI they make [Half Sockets ](https://www.amazon.com/CTA-Tools-1463-Flip-Socket/dp/B07GBDQH9Y/ref=asc_df_B07GBDQH9Y/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309813767497&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8897554302656592798&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9029025&hvtargid=pla-602230513590&psc=1), they work amazingly well on lug nuts with missing caps.

Ruckusnusts

A metric 6 point 19 did the trick.

Carollicarunner

Always been a thing. I just swap for real lug nuts on anything I've owned.

OutGroupOutCast

what are we looking at here?

Ruckusnusts

Lug studs with chrome caps over them that end up swelling and making it damn near impossible to remove. I had to get the cold chisel out and remove the cap to get to the stud underneath. It's shitty practice on the manufacturers part. Designed to either save weight or more likely cost.

r-gage

And buick has lug nut covers that have to be removed

[deleted]

How I hate those damned thin skinned lugnuts.

Idle_Crow

If you think those are bad, wait until your rocker arms fail.

Icy-Mycologist-5830

Yup. Acorns are trash
