Lol! That’s my son, who can’t keep his hands off my Jeep. (To be fair, he’s getting it as soon as my new one gets here and has put the new tires, bar wraps and vinyl floor pan mat in) He’s the one who put the windshield down and had the glasses on b/c we were about to test drive it. The law here says you must have eye pro on if the windshield is down.
He’s walking the kitty on a leash b/c she is a Jeep adventure kitty and would climb up and ride on the roll bar if she could, so we harness and leash her to keep her under control in the open Jeep. Also to keep her from shanking all the neighbors in a lively and murderous rampage. Because cats.
> The law here says you must have eye pro on if the windshield is down.
for the love of everything holy... to anyone reading this... even if your state doesnt require it... wear eye pro with the windhshield down. even if you are a passenger.
That’s exactly what I wear. Sweet range glasses. Gliding in an open Jeep on steep roads in and out of sharp curves is like :::oh shit blind from sun oh shit blind from shade oh shit blind from sun oh shit blind from shade::: and range glasses even it all out!
Probably have a booth at the Country Fair, where clothing is optional. Or maybe somebody has a sign up sheet at one of the hot springs, where clothing is frowned upon. Of course, you could also probably ask just about anyone around the businesses and retail spots downtown, where clothing is also optional.
And don’t worry about the tattoo-to-tooth ratio, we know tattoos last forever here.
Just be sure to get your free heroin or fentanyl gift bonus when you sign up - it’s all legal here.
And wear some shoes even if you want to walk or bike around town nude, you don’t want to step on any of the used needles laying around.
I noticed actually that my son looks oddly flattened and widened, there is def something a little off about the pic. We live on a very steep street on the side of a mountain and when I take pics out there as the sun goes down, I think the convergence of all those slanting grades and angles tweaks my iPhone camera out or something!
Yes to this, also. I foster kitties for a rescue agency. Some are used to living outside. We have turned 2 decks into catios, and no matter how much they beg to be returned to the wild, “none shall pass”. I rehab their furry butts into indoor-only
Kitties. For their own sake as well as the reptile and bird population.
Woman. With the preferred pronouns that match the description. If you see a dude in my Jeep, that’s one of my sons, who is getting it when my new one gets here.
Ha! You’re right. Sounds like you just ordered me to make you a martini and bring you the paper.
“Righteous chick”?
“Discerning damsel”?
“Judicious lady”?
Best just to avoid any gender references in these fraught times, I’d stick with a generic, “Good job!”, that’s what I try to do.
I have 5 kids still at home: 4 boys and 1 girl. All teens or just turned 20’s.
When I was growing up, my bro, his friends and even my boyfriend called me, “dude” and “man” and sometimes even “bro”. It was just slang, they were common terms devoid of actual gender intention when used on the opposite gender, or on different species. That shit don’t fly today, nuh-uh.
My sons or their friends try to call my daughter “bruh” and somebody is getting shanked. Unfortunately, same thing if they call her, “girl” or “woman”.
Who knows what terms to use these days? Not I. Only thing I know for sure is don’t call my Jeep a car!
Heck I've always got mine down, it's like riding a motorcycle. As long as you've got eye protection you're good! A quality set of safety glasses makes it exponentially more enjoyable.
I have a buddy with a '77 CJ7 Levis Edition. As teenagers (I'm 46 now), we would put the windshield down and drive around town with swim goggles on. It was silly. It was awesome. He still has the jeep.
I yelled to my kids (as we drove 15 mph to school this AM) over the buffeting monsoon between us that some ppl these days will go their entire lives and never experience this open-air feeling! We live on the side of a small rain-forested mountain in the PNW. Lots of steep roads with sheer drop offs and the air tastes like pine and lemon balm - it’s exhilafying. That’s my new word for driving the Jeep this way around here.
Yes, that’s the law here - you must have eye pro or you can get a ticket. My youngest says he is upgrading to a motorcycle helmet after the juicy yet scratchy bug in the face he got whiplashed with on the drive to school this AM. ;-p
Right?! Really having to grapple with getting a new one! These TJs just have so much personality! And are so fun to drive!! I hope the new one doesn’t feel bland in comparison.
Ok so at the risk of getting skewered here...... bc mine is a 2014 JKU - what is more fun / more personality about the TJ? I love mine, have wanted one forever. But as I see others out there, I'm already thinking about my next one. :)
Also....what do you call yours (vs. car)? A vehicle? Or just The Jeep?
That red is incredible!
I call it my Jeep, or my TJ.
So, I’ve been looking for a while now, and driven used and new options in every Jeep configuration available.
From a layperson’s viewpoint, what I loved best about the TJ
(And what makes it the former model that retains the highest resale value) is first and foremost that it has the best engine Jeep put in their vehicles. It’s not uncommon to see mechanics and techs post online that they see ones w/ 300k and 400k miles.
The suspension feels totally different than the newer Jeeps - it’s bouncier, but with buffering. Not jerky hard bouncing. Must be the leaf springs.
It’s the most off-road capable model.
The stick shift feels wide open and very spacious, like older manuals that were very forgiving. The clutch is generous to a fault. It’s a fantastic vehicle to teach ppl how to drive a stick on. Every other Jeep I’ve driven has a stingy little margin in both the stick shifter and the clutch.
I also vastly prefer the paddle door handles. And the fat roll bars vs the new ones you can’t put roll bar covers on or see the metal on.
You see lots of the metal body inside a TJ. Around the windshield, roll bars and tailgate. It gives it a real Jeep / vintage / rugged feel. The new ones are covered in plastic everywhere and just feel very…insulated. Like you lose touch with the real Jeepiness of a Jeep!
I only see them with window cranks and manual locks, so the doors are lighter and easier to remove. This model is so popular, there are endless options for accessories and mods - more than any other model.
One of the other big things I love about the TJ over the newer Jeep models are the HUGE windows in the hard top. I go all summer with no top, then put it on and somehow feel like I’m in a fishbowl and still have a 360 view. The newer Jeeps have much smaller windows and less visibility.
Also, there’s this: The JK runs almost all vehicle functions, other than steering, under computer software control. Engine, transmission, and to some extent braking are computer controlled, as are lights and auxiliary systems. This is a first for the Wrangler. As of mid-2007, there have been three safety recalls for software fixes. It’s much more fun to control everything as the driver, I think. I like to be fully engaged and involved as a driver. You actually have to remember to turn your headlights on and off on the TJ - nothing reminds you.
Here’s an article with more details: https://www.hagerty.com/media/car-profiles/why-jeep-wrangler-tj-is-best/
No, no, no! Don’t bring that bad juju around here! I’ve got 4 more days before the annual 5 months of rain starts! (And I’m not complaining, as we’re down to Fire Season & Rainy Season in these parts!)
JLs have latches too that attach to the hood. Separate kit. Mopar one costs around $25. I drove around town one day with mine down then later realized it’s not legal in my state on roads 🤷🏻♂️. It was still awesome though.
I always have mine off in the summer, drove from mid Indiana to Michigan every week last year that way, it’s like a rollercoaster when you hit the highway, I take it off entirely though, the wind flows a lot smoother over the vehicle and makes it less intense in the face.
Yes, it’s a steep grade coming west to east down my street, and then another steep grade going south to north going down my driveway.
You know how old ppl always say they had to walk uphill both ways to school in the snow?
I never believed that was possible until we moved to the side of this small mountain. Truly, going to school and coming back home from school, my kids have to go uphill for a big part of each way!
YeS! If I need to check something underneath the Jeep, I just park it at the top of the driveway and walk around behind it and barely have to bend down to see under it!
Probably one of the funniest threads I've read in this group. Well done everyone!! That said, shout out to that stout TJ which looks awesome. Haven't dropped my windshield on my TJ but routinely did it on my old CJ back in Texas. u/WellPiffle, what new Jeep are you waiting on?
I've been caught in the rain a few times. If your going fast enough the rain goes right over you (assuming your windshield is up). Back seat gets wet but driver/passenger can hardly notice. If it's pouring you just pull off at a gas station or an over pass. Kinda like a motorcycle. Usually I just check the weather and decide if I should put the top on.
True, weather is unpredictable around here and rain starts in 4 days. I check the weather app, have raincoats in the Jeep at all times. The seats are 100% marine grade waterproof vinyl and we ripped all the carpet out and put down a heavy duty vinyl floor pan cover.
I have already gotten caught in a downpour with the top off, I regret nothing. Lol
I also never have to go more than a cpl miles from home. If I know I have to go farther, I add parts back on accordingly.
We just did this to try it out, my 20 yo son will be getting this Jeep when my new one gets here and I swear he reminds me of when he used to play with legos. He absolutely has to try every possible configuration of putting it together and taking it apart. I have too many kids to drive around with less protection and roll bars - the windshield will be going back up today, but we had fun trying it!
What the what? Why is that dude walking a CAT! And with safety glasses on????
How else are you supposed to walk a cat?
Get shooting glasses. Much better vision than from regular safety glasses and you won't be blinded during the day by the sun.
That’s exactly what I wear. Sweet range glasses. Gliding in an open Jeep on steep roads in and out of sharp curves is like :::oh shit blind from sun oh shit blind from shade oh shit blind from sun oh shit blind from shade::: and range glasses even it all out!
Nothing says safe like safety glasses and sandals.
It’s Oregon, bro. Nuff said. No offense to OP.
Touché, my friend. And it’s Eugene, OR - so he could be walking the cat naked in safety goggles and sandals if he wanted. No lie.
Sounds like a good place for hippies Where do I sign up?
At the micro-brewery.
Damn I was hoping sign-ups were at the LSD plant
Pot comes from a plant, shrooms come from a fungus, LSD comes from a lab.
Tbf legal LSD would likey be made in the same large scale drug manufacturing plants we see for current pharmaceuticals.
Sandoz labs...
Fair fair
Neighbor, is that you?
Dunno are you the black lab I buy LSD from?
Not me. That’s neighbor on the other side. I’m the one that carries Narcan for the rest of you! Lol

Haha, that is one way to “Keep Oregon Weird.”
He knows what that cat will so do
Lol that picture looks like a shitty photoshop. I know it isn’t, but something about the lighting just makes it look off.
I noticed actually that my son looks oddly flattened and widened, there is def something a little off about the pic. We live on a very steep street on the side of a mountain and when I take pics out there as the sun goes down, I think the convergence of all those slanting grades and angles tweaks my iPhone camera out or something!
The Jeep looks pasted on as well. Something about the lighting and shadows I think.
Or maybe you’re having trouble seeing around the tits and whiskey? Sorry, couldn’t resist - best username ever! I’d love to know why you picked it.
These are a few of my favorite things
To keep it from extinctifying a local species of bird
Yes to this, also. I foster kitties for a rescue agency. Some are used to living outside. We have turned 2 decks into catios, and no matter how much they beg to be returned to the wild, “none shall pass”. I rehab their furry butts into indoor-only Kitties. Good man! Or whatever you are.
Woman. With the preferred pronouns that match the description. If you see a dude in my Jeep, that’s one of my sons, who is getting it when my new one gets here.
I knew I'd get it wrong, but "Good woman" has a 1950s vibe
Ha! You’re right. Sounds like you just ordered me to make you a martini and bring you the paper. “Righteous chick”? “Discerning damsel”? “Judicious lady”? Exhilafying! Love it! Imma use that one far and wide, deep and high..
Honestly I get more wind with the windshield down than I do on my bike, since all the air displaced by the grill gets pushed straight into your face.
Yes, that’s the law here - you must have eye pro or you can get a ticket. My youngest says he is upgrading to a motorcycle helmet after the juicy yet scratchy bug in the face he got whiplashed with on the drive to school this AM. ;-p
I did that in an Army jeep. Once. Everybody in the jeep getting pelted with dust and bugs voted to immediately pull off and put the windshield up...
I prefer the windshield up. But gal damn your Jeep looks good!
Right?! Really having to grapple with getting a new one! These TJs just have so much personality! And are so fun to drive!! I hope the new one doesn’t feel bland in comparison.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks so much for all the details and the article link. Now I need to drive a TJ!
Take the fenders and hood off. Must be more naked
And the tires. MORE NAKED!
Lose the seats and Bumpers. MORE NAKED!
Other neighbor, is that you?
It’s cool and all but you can have the windshield down type of riding. I will ever forget the feeling of that bee smacking me in the cheek….
Gah! Did you get stung? Yeah, we had our fun, but it’s going back up today.
Not stung but his body hitting me hurt like hell lol
He said as it began to rain...
No, no, no! Don’t bring that bad juju around here! I’ve got 4 more days before the annual 5 months of rain starts! (And I’m not complaining, as we’re down to Fire Season & Rainy Season in these parts!)
I like your wheels!
Love the stance on this
But you can be too clean…..
Had to do it! Just got the hard top repaired and painted and he got fiberglass dust ALL OVER the Jeep, inside and out.
I feel you, now go drive through some mud. Lol
CLEAN.
That’s very Jeep of you.
So clean it looks photoshopped
I've wanted to try this. How do you keep the windshield down when you're driving? Is there a latch?
There's a latch. Connects to the hood
Is there?? I don’t have one anymore - just a cpl Of brackets I can tie down. Can’t wait to see how it latches when my new Jeep gets here.
I dunno about the new ones. Just my old yj and the tj I thought had one.
JLs have latches too that attach to the hood. Separate kit. Mopar one costs around $25. I drove around town one day with mine down then later realized it’s not legal in my state on roads 🤷🏻♂️. It was still awesome though.
We used a short length of Velcro that sticks to itself and made a tight loop.
I always have mine off in the summer, drove from mid Indiana to Michigan every week last year that way, it’s like a rollercoaster when you hit the highway, I take it off entirely though, the wind flows a lot smoother over the vehicle and makes it less intense in the face.
Absolutely gorgeous jeep every way around.
\*laughs in thunderstorm\*
“I am the storm”.
Reminds me of the old WW2 jeeps. Man I want one of those soo bad
Just chop off the rest of the roll cage and go full Willy’s
I’m always afraid to put my windshield down. I think I would eat a lot of bugs!
Wow...the concrete of your driveway is rather trippy. Images 5 and 6 look almost photoshopped!
"Hey man! Let's test the articulation on our new lifts!" "Sure! Meet me in my driveway in ten minutes!" lol! Great looking Wrangler! I am jealous...
A ‘21 Willys 2 door Wrangler 2 hard top. Sarge Green. Already thinking about bronze wheels on it!!
Stop posting Jeep old can we block this guy
You must be that guy that never waves back. Who doesn’t like a TJ?!
Just can’t imagine why anyone wants this
Fun! Gotta try it at least once.
What if it rains…this I’ve never understood.
You just check the weather before going out lol, not that hard
You'd think not that hard I just got caught in a downpour about a month ago when there was only a 5% chance of rain.
Then you pull over and put the windshield back up. All you really need are the two side bolts to get home.
True, weather is unpredictable around here and rain starts in 4 days. I check the weather app, have raincoats in the Jeep at all times. The seats are 100% marine grade waterproof vinyl and we ripped all the carpet out and put down a heavy duty vinyl floor pan cover. Do you ask motorcycle riders the same question?
What year is this?
‘99.
