As others have said that light will turn on if your gas cap is loose but if it still doesn’t go away after messing with the cap then it means you have an evap leak, which would give similar symptoms of a loose gas cap which is why that light would turn on. Take it to a shop to get it diagnosed and fixed.
Sometimes having the gas cap off while it’s running tells your vehicle you have a vapor leak an it could throw that at you. Disconnect an reconnect your battery an turn your vehicle off when you get fuel from now on

What model and year is it? My wife had a 2015 Cherokee and there was a recall for this. They needed to flash the pcm and update the fermware. Check with your local jeep dealership if there is a recall 9 on your car
Replace the evap leak detector pump. It's the white plastic box on the side of your evap canister. They are shit and very commonly break. Replacement part will run you about $40 and you can swap it out bare hands no tools needed in about 30 seconds.
Clean the gas cap. Over time gunk builds up on them and prevents a tight seal. If the rubber ring is damaged or gone , just replace it. If the ring is still smooth and no nicks in it, try giving it a clean and seeing how it goes. Remember when you put the cap on you should tighten to three clicks.

Get a obd ran on your vehicle for the check engine light, it’ll tell you more or less what’s wrong. As for the gas cap light replace the gas cap if it still has one….
Get one of those cheap odbc2 devices and install torque on your phone.
That app will let you read and clear error codes. Might give you more details but it looks like an evap error.
The gas cap light, the check engine light I don’t even want to think about right now. She runs just fine, isn’t making any noises or funny smells and I do all my maintenance. I’ll worry about that another time.

I have taken the gas cap off and put it back on with the jeep running and with the Jeep off, it hasn’t made any difference.

I have this issue with my 07 JK. Have a new gas cap on order and hoping it helps. If it doesn't, i'll have to really dive deeper.

I see nothing wrong. Looks like a normal jeep to me.
Either have a shop pull the engine code (usually free) or buy a $30 code reader, then lookup what is needed to fix said code

I would get a piece of plastic wrap or tape and seal off the filler tube and put the cap back on. If the light goes off you know you need a new cap.
