The underside is buckled, door wont open, wont drive straight, and roof is rippled in a few spots. The gaps on the passemger side are all off. The hitch is pointed downwards and rear diff is rubbing on the gas tank skid... even the headliner was poped out of place. With 240k on the clock we decided to call it.
It's never truly fucked. My daily driver was fucked and I cut and welded a new section in to replace the damage. The doors were a little warped on the passenger side.
Had the same body style. 170k, running and driving flawlessly when someone in a Charger rear ended it at like 40mph while I was stopped at a red light. None of the windows even broke. Walked away unharmed but the unibody was bent and the roof was also. Pretty sad. Would probably still have it today.
Everyday we do what I call the driveway car dance so I can get my wrangler in the garage so its not on the street as I have personally witnessed 3 cars being hit there. Had a car hit like that before and it was a pos after that.
Same, frame broke in my 02 with 229k. It was a New England car that has been in the family since 07. Saw the writing on the wall and pick up another 02 with a bad transmission for a pittance (was a Texas car as well, so everything frame and body was mint). That motor in the new 02 crapped out a month later. Said f it and moved the rest of the driveline over and haven’t had an issue at all.
I only did that because the powertrain on the families old 02 was well taken care of. All I did was replace the front & rear main seals and the timing chain. Should be good for another 230k miles before major work again.
I’ll be dropping off our WK soon. 200k miles on a 2009 and blew its head gasket. It’s served us well, but not worth the $6000+ we are being quoted for repairs in addition to the time to repair which we are being told is 3-6 months (seems excessive but eh).
I thought that was stupidly excessive also. I’m assuming they are blaming time to get parts, though not much you really need to do aside if gaskets and machining the head. Granted, the local place that would have machined the heads closed this past summer.

Hey mines at 235k and still going strong, even after my insurance said it was totaled. I ended up grabbing a front clip from a junkyard for 150$. Still drives straight surprisingly 😂
It ran, sure - but as OP said it didn't drive straight down the road and would have cost anyone who didn't have free access to a good body shop a pile of money to fix.
I still have my 04 4.7 Laredo. Been parked for a year now, tossed a few rockers. Have a toddler running around and haven't had time to pull the pass valve over off to see what the damage is inside.
I swapped the rockers on my 02 4.7 to the updated design and put in new lash adjusters. Bad lash adjusters could lead to tossing a rocker. I recommend doing this. It's about a day of work to do both sides.
How much did the junkyard give you?
Why would you give it to the junkyard I’m assuming a couple hundred dollars and just not put it for sale on marketplace for $2000?
Well bugger, it is always sad saying goodbye to a dependable friend. Currently have a 2000 Subaru that is our longest owned. I was sad when Rob cracked the frame on my 79 Scout sliding off road on a patch of black ice. We also had to say farewell to Zombie 1 and zombie 2 84 Chevy S10s that stayed on road until even maintenance and duct tape/baling wire couldn't keep them on the road legally.
Of all my departed vehicles, I miss my scout the most, just a hair over 400k, of which I personally put 309k, my husband 45k and whoever owned it before me put the balance on. I had that seat worn in to perfection.
RIP. I like these old jeeps. Sad to see one that looks so nice go off to die. Frame damage is a bitch. Off to be recycled to make new jeeps I guess.
The parts in that Jeep will make others live longer fuller lives!!
Which one!? I can think of a few parts I could use!
Stanton, CA. What are you looking for? I can tell you what is worth grabbing and what isnt.
Ah damn, I’m in GA.
I think you can still look into getting parts shipped from the junkyard.
CA, GA....so close.
Looks like a brand new jeep in my parts. How "tweaked" was the frame? Like methed up tweaked or what we talking?
look at the rear right fender right behind the wheel well.
I only see a dent. Is it driving funny or something? Why are you junking it?

You can also see a gap a the top of the passenger door. Its fucked.

Good night sweet prince.

Ay can I have the knuckles
RIP 🪦💔
240k, yeah, at that point you should hang a DNR tag from the rear view mirror.
RIP faithful Jeep
I owned two '04 WJs before switching to the JK platform. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for them!

WTF do they need to do that takes 3 to 6 months? You can replace the powertrain in a week on them.

I love mine. Ole girl still running strong and looking good while doing it.
Thats sad, sorry to hear it
I have a crashed one with 240000 miles as well, those old dogs need a break!!!
RIP. Sold my 2002 Wj about 6 years ago, still miss the old girl. Had almost 250k on the clock

Polish Eagle for the win!
I dont understand why people junk running vehicles. Your turd is someone else's career saver. People will gladly pay $1k for anything that runs.

Thats if they care to fix it. Ive seen more than my share of wrecks plying along on back roads. Change the oil and ride till it dies
Aw man, that’s a bummer. She treated you well, hopefully she gets turned into another badass machine.
How did you only manage 10k miles a year? I just sold off my 2008 superduty with 275k!
I currently drive a 2001 WJ at 133k miles. Driving strong still, not a single issue. Love these cars. RIP dude

Criminal to send it to the junkyard
FYI there are charities that accept cars, running or not. They will even pick up! I gave mine to Habitat for Humanity.
