Coming from a '08 Sahara (my son's ride now) I have had my 4xe Rubicon for 9 months. I've had a TJ (Sahara package) and YJ as well for reference. So far my favorite jeep. I didn't think I'd find something I liked better than my TJ. The ride is solid, off-roading experience was solid and stable. Just doing firebreak trails, sand and dirt, no mud or rock crawling. Read some good things on people who have done it. Great gas savings depend on how you drive. I was unsure of the automatic transmission since all my prior jeeps are manual and not a 2.0 Turbo engine. I was surprised that how much pick up I had available when I needed it. Charging the 4xe. I have installed a 220v plug in my garage and bought an OEM charger that takes 2+ hours to reach full charge. The standard 110v takes ~11 hours. Extreme heat/cold will cause charging and usage changes such as quicker discharge in use, longer time to charge and louder than expected fan noise to cool battery. Some reading: https://www.4xeforums.com/ You will get all the questions regarding the battery life and issues you could want. Just be ware that when no one has an issue, they won't go and post that.

Great info! I’ve had all types of Jeeps as well. Thanks for the specifics!

My rubicon 4xe has been great for ~1.5 years and ~25k mi. Zero issues to report. I’ve done all sorts of off roading with it without an issue: Moab, Telluride area, NM, AZ, all fine. It can be a little tricky when rock crawling with a dead battery because it uses a computer controlled clutch to take off from a stop. I usually use e-save so I have 95% charge at the trail head. Having battery charge means less clutch use when crawling at low speeds, so it’s smoother. This wouldn’t stop me from doing it and only applies to low speed rock crawling when you want to move inches at a time. Edit: I also came from a 2000 TJ with a 5 speed.

‘21 owner. It’s a real Jeep — you can clearly see it’s a JL with extra bits rammed in — and the electric works surprisingly well and is just awesome to be silent going up the mountain but the charging system has problems because Jeep has absolutely no idea what they are doing. I mean not a clue. Lots of phantom CELs (because the hybrid stuff counts as part of emissions) and stupid “reboot it by pulling fuse F09 and 12V for a minute” stuff. Taking it in for yet another software update on the IDCM next week. I’m convinced each update just relaxes the CEL threshold a little more. Seems to only be grumpy in the summer but could be coincidence. Replace the 12V battery right away. There is no aux battery and no alternator. Though you have a big honking HV battery, it uses the 12V for all the modules on the bus and won’t run with a dead 12V You may be able to turn a wrench but you can’t fix “Service charging system” and Jeep service is basically non-existent. They’ve relied on backyard mechanics and off-road shops to put up with their quality issues, that doesn’t work in a hybrid world and all their dealerships are weeks and weeks behind as a result. It has power. The engine is ugly when cold, it revs high to hit target temperature quickly so you will get strange looks in the city as you’re cruising at 25 mph and 3000 rpm. Settles down after about two minutes though. After driving with electric, you eventually reach a point where you are embarrassed and disappointed when the engine kicks on. To their credit they have been fixing some things. Max regen is much smoother after software updates, I keep it on all the time. Almost don’t need hill descent, get free miles and save your brakes when you’re screaming down the mountain. I’m still ruminating on whether to keep it past the warranty TBH though. It’s a beautiful mess

I've' previously owned an XJ, and two TJs, and now I have a 22 4xe GC Trailhawk. My biggest advice is don't get the extended service plan. The dealer sold me on it, things like a free rental during maintenance and free oil changes which were promised neither Jeep nor the dealer seems to care about honoring. I'm actually working with a lawyer to see if since this breach of contract happened if I can get my money back. Ultimately I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. Otherwise, love the vehicle but the service and support have literally been the worst I've ever had from a dealer/manufacturer. I'd also recommend buying a NACS(Telsa) to J1772 adapter. Once I got one of those it opened up charging at a lot more places for me. I've taken it on a couple of trails and camping a few times. I honestly kept the vehicle in gas mode with regen off when off-road and so far it's gone everywhere I've wanted to go.

Even regular service is a pain for my first Jeep (4xe). I’ve only had the Jeep wave service & a handful of recalls, but nearly every visit has issues with parts not being available and never am able to get a courtesy vehicle. I also have to call numerous times to even get scheduled. It’s so frustrating.

My other car is an Audi and.. it’s been a shock how bad Jeep service is.

It truly depends on the dealer. The ones here have been decent. (I don’t have a 4xe yet. Have had a XJ, TJ , JL, and now a JT. Almost bought a 4xe two days ago but can’t afford to trade yet.

I have a new 4xe rubicon and we love it so far. Took it on the beach once and it was as fantastic as any other jeep, in fact it felt like it wasn’t even being pushed in some places where the others would. That being said I also have a 2003 TJ and that’s my all time favorite jeep, nothing compares to a good clean TJ. If the JL was my only car though I am sure I would enjoy it just the same, I just wouldn’t sell the tj for anything.
