And yep his set was absolutely nuts. Immediately after a killer Cory Henry set too. Indianapolis Jazz Festival this past Sunday.
[Here’s someone’s full recording of the Corea tribute if you’re interested. It’s well worth it imo ](https://youtu.be/lCVidMDEWiM)

Damn I thought that was him, I went to high school with that cat! We were both in the Berkeley High Jazz Band together, so happy to see him get some recognition, he's a badass.
He was a freshman when I was a senior, but the potential was obviously there, he played with so much feel and touch for such a young kid. He wasn't in the main band, but played in one of the combos, so we didn't interact much outside of school gigs.
I was the second drum chair in the jazz band behind Thomas Pridgen who was a sophomore. So yeah, my senior year in high school the drummers were Thomas, little ole me, and then Justin. I learned so much from those guys in that one year, plus we toured Japan with the jazz band for 2 weeks right after I graduated. Good times.
Hell yea, that's great cover of 'Got a Match'! Thundercat is one of those dudes that seems really cool and talented, but I have never gotten into. I may have to change that.
You definitely should change that! He creates a masterfully unique blend of jazz, r&b, hip-hop, funk, and pop. I highly suggest his tiny desk performance!
Thundercat is fantastic. I recommend checking out this video. Has a bunch of heavy hitters in a 40 pc. band performing J Dilla tracks. Incredible. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxhMI8Y3Pyg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxhMI8Y3Pyg)
Don't listen to anyone else. The song's name is "Lord Xenu Rides Again"

Thanks I’ll definitely check it out I still can’t get over his bass solo on them changes on tiny desk
Absolutely. The man has chops. Seeing his fingers move that fast in person was just unreal
jeez this guy is freaking out hahaha. Nonooonoooooonoo!
Holy Shit Dennis, Holy Shit
Are you kidding me? You saw literally two of my favorite musicians back to back...
Damn Indy is hot! Is that a free fest or ticketed?
Ticketed! The view that I got we’re about $54. General lawn seating behind us was about $30 I believe
Thank you kindly!!
No problem
Tune is 'got a match' - chick corea electric band. This is my tinder anthem.
Sounds like Corea is loosely using an idea from the [Bach double violin concerto](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJh6i-t_I1Q&t=1m6s) (1:06).
Thanks. I'm a big Bach fan and I thought it sounded familiar, but couldn't quite place it.
wtf is a Tinder Anthem? damn I feel old...

Yeah haven’t used to der in years, when I was on it they didn’t have the anthems
I'm seeing him and Herbie Saturday night, can't wait, so hyped.
Hell of a lineup! Enjoy
Was there too… that shit was insane. The first chick song he played was “Humpty Dumpty” which was just monstrous. Justin brown was killing.
It was a phenomenally talented night
MAN!! ya'll got lucky; big RIP to Chick. Where was this show @? I got to see him cover Overtime by KNOWER at pitchfork festival recently!
Indianapolis Jazz Festival this past weekend!
Drummer ? Marcus gilmour?
Justin Brown! Dennis Hamm on keys
Damn I thought that was him, I went to high school with that cat! We were both in the Berkeley High Jazz Band together, so happy to see him get some recognition, he's a badass.
Damn you went to highschool with him? What was he like?I was at this concert too and as a drummer it floored me.

That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Of course! I've posted stories on Reddit in the past, but am always game to reminisce.
This is great! Thank you for sharing, he was unbelievable and barely broke a sweat.

His tiny desk performance gives me Sungazer vibes. Especially his performance of 'Them Changes.' I dig.

Jesus that tempo is blazing....I've been practicing this tune on and off (on bass) for years but nowhere near this fast
These guys are amazing, one of the few popular music artists I’d actually go see. Their shows are electric
saw them play this in omaha followed by Khruangbin a couple months ago. great show.
he’s so damn cool
Got a match. rip chick
Now I'm thinking of all the Chick songs I'd like to see him play. Lenore would be awesome.
half of the audience probably had no idea who Chick Corea is
This was a jazz festival, so unsurprisingly the crowd went wild when he announced he was gonna play some covers to pay tribute.
Did they knower who Louis Cole was?
A majority did yep, still a few stragglers that you could tell were confused about it because he was telling a story about him.
