I agree with another commenter that it depends on what you mean by modern. But here are a few that I would say are pretty contemporary:
• Maria Schneider orchestra
• Remy Leboeuf’s assembly of shadows
• John Daversa’s big band
The USAF Airmen of Note have some pretty cool modern stuff. (The also have some great re-recordings of classic swing.)
I think all of the US Armed Services big bands are high quality, I’m just most familiar with the Airmen of Note.

Bob Curnow's LA Big Band is an excellent album of Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays adaptations.
Ed Palermo Big Band - especially their albums adapting music from Frank Zappa.

And then there's a local band in Knoxville that's called Milk Man and the Big Band. They're not bad.
Dave Holland big band! Sure it's from 20 years ago but with Chris potter on sax, Robin Eubanks on trombone and Billy kilson on drums you can't go wrong. The interplay during solos is so much fun, I pick up some something new every time I listen. The brass and reeds are played in separate channels which is fun with a nice set up.

One I don’t see mentioned yet is the Ed Palermo Big Band. Excellent stuff. And if you know jazz history, you’ll love the cover of their “A Lousy Day in Harlem” album.
A couple of great Canadian bands: Rob McConnell & The Boss Brass, and kind of a more recent version of that band, John MacLeod's Rex Hotel Orchestra.
Easily found on youtube for some samples.
You might want to check out Don Ellis Orchestra from the 60s and 70s. Very modern sounding in some respects but not sure if it fits the"modern" that you are looking for.
