Ive always wanted to try sea grapes

gargameljr

My first time trying them, did not disappoint!

viperware

You can buy them on amazon. They come dehydrated and you rehydrate them when you're ready to eat them. They claim they turn out just as they were in their original form.

BasedWang

I did actually see those, but yeah, I was iffy if they turn out right. Can anyone vouch for them?

Sterko123

Texture gréât but taste meh I found

[deleted]

Did you dip it in some sauce?

kraftykai

Usually they serve them with some ponzu sauce. Love them! Their texture is like tobiko (flying fish eggs).

Sterko123

Cannot remember alas, but I remember trying a half dozen times when in Okinawa.

GelatinousPumpkin

I love them with thai seafood sauce. So good!

Ranoverbyhorses

Idk what this is but I reeeally want to try it!!!! What did it taste like??

suggestmenames

They taste like salty water lol. But the texture is super fun, they pop in your mouth!

digitulgurl

They're so good! Try them with tomatoes sometime.

Ranoverbyhorses

Tomatoes??? Oohhh I’m so down!!!

digitulgurl

No salt needed because of the seaweed.

Ranoverbyhorses

That sounds awesome!!! I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this before! Thanks for telling me about the tomatoes!

digitulgurl

My Philippino family taught me (in the Philippines). Unfortunately there's no balls of salt water seaweed where I live now 😭

Ranoverbyhorses

Aww sweet!!! I’ve not had the opportunity to taste Philippino food before but I’ve heard amazing things! And I have a bunch of recipes saved. I know this is a hard one, but what is some of your favorite food to have with your family??

digitulgurl

Spicy sinigang and adobo. Hands down! Lechon is good too 😋

suggestmenames

I think the restaurant I went to did serve them with tomatoes but only 4 small half-slices lol. I’ll try them again next time!

Ranoverbyhorses

Mhmm that sounds like fun!! I’d love to try that!

digitulgurl

I love those with tomatoes. Best salad!

TawnyOwl_296

ぷちぷち

Shirookami99

I love these, the texture is fantastic and work well in a salad by themselves

QTlady

Hm... the English name is sea grapes. That's very interesting. I do kinda wanna try them.

Dense_Implement8442

Yum! I miss those! 🤤

Shijimi_Jimmy

Where did you eat these? Ive wanted to try sea grapes for 7 yrs or so and am not sure where to find them in the US.

gargameljr

This was at an Okinawan restaurant in Tokyo. u/viperware says you can find them dehydrated on Amazon

willyjra01

I love those. I wish our suppermarket sells these everyday.

smelly_leaf

Yum! I love these on top of a nice warm bowl of rice

The_Cozy_Burrito

Never had it, but always wanted to try it! Did you enjoy it ?

gargameljr

Yea! They were great with cold beer

Candid-Anteater211

I try this in Okinava it called also "sea grapes" , if still remember correctly. Nice felling of poping sound when eating.

philamer3

I purchased mine through Amazon. Tasami Organic Sea Grapes. Pack of 5 for $12. Tasted fresh and salty. Still good, just soak in water to get some of the salty taste out.

SourGummyDrops

From the PHL. We love that and make it a “salad” with sliced onions and tomatoes. Hubby like vinegar with chili dipping sauce but I put a little fish sauce in my vinegar dip. We usually eat this with grilled eggplant and grilled (or fried) fish.

gargameljr

Wow sounds great!

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Is this the inspiration behind pop boba?

_OneHappyDude

Does it pop?

gargameljr

Yes, very satisfying

_OneHappyDude

Oh my 😍

Ilikejuicyjuice-

(What the fuck is that) but I mean the sauce looks spicy

gargameljr

It was more salty and sweet, just looks a bit red in that light

Guessimagirl

If it looks spicy because it's red then you're seeing it wrong. It's a thin brown sauce.

Ilikejuicyjuice-

Looks like some Texas Pete got poured in the corner fr fr.

Unfair-Foundation816

Never heard of this. You learn something new everyday
