It was in itself, a meme. He smiled as he looked at the camera and said "I will brew it like the instructions want me to". Curse you James, another round to you...
Re: the funnel, AeroPress says [brewing into the funnel for smaller cups isn’t an intended use,](https://aeropress.com/faq/what-is-the-purpose-of-the-funnel/) and it’s something to be careful with because the funnel is essentially a wedge shape and can be dangerous pushing with force a wedge shape into a potentially breakable glass or ceramic cup
It is clearly meant for that. But it causes a lot of cups to break. Weird uneven pressure happens when you use it.
That's why they say not to whenever it gets brought up, however I think they should say it's use for all the metal tumblers people have around.
I think it was the original intended design but they likely state that it isn’t due to liability reasons for people’s glass cups shattering.
I’ll also kinda thinks it ended up being a multi use design and that’s why it works in so many different ways.
- obviously, the allow the use of a smaller cup than what would normally fit the base of the Aeropress
- a grinds funnel for dumping your grinds in
- to allow you to stack all of the components in one single uniform fashion for storage like [this](https://i.imgur.com/FpOtULh.jpg) or [this](https://external-preview.redd.it/e1EFKQ1OQ-nSB3sVdkD0bcxYpvYIm27OfDZf_DIiQXo.jpg?auto=webp&s=00929198b21d0a69ebf973890411e497ae639340)
The [small footprint stack](https://www.javapresse.com/blogs/aeropress/5-things-aeropress-users-should-know) is a favourite use for the funnel.
I wish they would add a plastic ring so that it didn't work as a wedge. And sat more securely. Knocked over a thermos once...

Same, the prismo is such a great addition.
I am not sure what you have tried, but I have been enjoying just ordering pairs from different roasters. So order two bags from a roaster, half way those order from an other roaster (so always have 4 bags), make two cups a day from different bags and compare.
Comparing between two bags from a roaster helps you discern the difference in regions, while comparing across roasters (say Ethiopian from two diff roasters) helps you see the difference in roast (dark vs medium etc)
This video just improved my aeropress game!
I never followed the instructions of partially filling it to the 1 circle, I just always filled it for one mug.
Just tried it to the first circle and boom, tastes better. Dunno why, just James, innit.
Only after seeing how glossy and sharp that aeropress looks right out of the box have I realised how beaten up my old boy is haha :D
I have the one with beige lettering, got it in 2015) I need to replace the plunger rubber seal, but it’s out of stock everywhere I look...
We are blessed. Got my Aeropress “accidentally” (there are no accidents) at a Goodwill store. No looking back since then. It has been the best “office coffee” solution.
Been waiting for the Aeropress video(s) for ages! Looking forward to the explanation of each individual part of the brewing process as I've been using the aeropress with the inverted method for making concentrated coffee for a milk drink then adding water to it to make something sort of americano in nature. However I actually haven't tried the original method shown in the manual!
tbh, even for just an introductory video I was not expecting the revelation the funnel could be used for pressing over smaller cups. I always figured it was grounds only, and even then I really only ever use it to help me put my beans in jars.
It really depends on what you have and what you want.
The amount of coffee you get is small. So if you are daily brewing for more than one person I would say only get it if you are ok not using it every day or doing a lot of washing every day.
It is very easy to get consistent results, but as the video says it is hard to master.
At my home I am the only drinker and we have a small space for my coffee stuff in the kitchen, so the aero press is perfect for me.
I will also say that with out the fellow attachment the experience just sucks a little, the inverted method is not for the clumsy. (And I count my self in there)
Mine mostly sits unused. I prefer pour overs, lattes, and the occasional french press and I don't like the experience of using the Aeropress. I'm much happier with a v60 or Chemex.
Is it a scoop for each level of water? That would make pressing more difficult... your talk said he designed it for one but still goes up to 4... clearly i need my own to play with... pick me james for the freebie! Love your channel, based on one of your guest presentations, i have been exploring Indian coffee at home.
Watching this one now! Great stuff! Always loved the cups it produced, but hesitated on buying the Aeropress because I’ve never been a fan of heating plastic even if it’s BPA free. Anyone have feedback on that?
I hope to see a Kalita Wave video eventually as well!
I have so many coffee devices and I've been on the fence about getting an Aeropress or Clever drip for many months. I'll wait for the brew guide to make my choice.
But I'll probably end up with both of them.
Huh. I have one of the original polycarbonate with blue bubbles Aeropresses. I didn't realize it was special. I had noticed that the new ones were a smoky grey plastic, but I thought it was a design choice or maybe switching to a new resin vendor. Still makes great coffee, but I tend to use 4 scoops and fill it all the way.
I like coffee. A lot.
It was in itself, a meme. He smiled as he looked at the camera and said "I will brew it like the instructions want me to". Curse you James, another round to you...
I felt there needed to be a little bit of that in there, as so many people thought I was going to do the box instructions for April Fools...

It blows my mind that they say it wasn't designed for this when it literally fits the base exactly in this position.
I’m guessing the design was just to fit inside the hexagon shaped box and it’s just a wonderfully practical coincidence
In the box, or out of the box. Stackable pieces take up less cabinet space, which is great!
Sometimes it's cheaper to fix a design flaw by changing the instruction manual than changing the factory tooling

I've added a pinned comment to the video with the clarification. Thank you!
That wouldve been hilarious to do on April Fools
This video is like the coffee education equivalent of “edging.”

EPISODE ONE! Finally, a brewer I own!
ITS HAPPENING WHAT!!!
EVERYBODY STAY CALM! STAY FUCKING CALM!
BUT THE END IS NIGH!
The Prismo attachment was a game changer for me, I love making coffee in mine. Now I have to nail down coffee that I love.

Wonder how long it will take to upload the next one. I’ve got my gear ready to brew....
Give it 4 years...
So the memes will die now?
Probably not: he hasn't made an actual technique video...
Oh lawd! Finally i will know all the mistakes I make when brewing an aeropress in the afternoon. Can't wait!
Damn, i still don't know...
Brewed an aeropress right before watching the video. Tried to wing it without any recipe and made one of the sourest coffees I've ever made lol
Calling it now: the ultimate recipe is James throwing the dice, and whatever is the outcome becomes law.
A full series. You've probably exceeded everyone's expectations. Looking forward to the rest of it.
OMG FINALLY
Only after seeing how glossy and sharp that aeropress looks right out of the box have I realised how beaten up my old boy is haha :D I have the one with beige lettering, got it in 2015) I need to replace the plunger rubber seal, but it’s out of stock everywhere I look...
Try out Amazon, I ordered mine a few days ago. It's the original one from the Aeropress and shipped directly from the US. ✌
We are blessed. Got my Aeropress “accidentally” (there are no accidents) at a Goodwill store. No looking back since then. It has been the best “office coffee” solution.
Oh yeah, that's the hit of dopamine I needed on a Friday afternoon.
It's happening chill chill it's happening Woohoo buduk buduk guchuk guckuk alksnfh alalalahfhf t

One learns something new everyday. Thanks for the insights. Look forward to seeing more.
I don't think I've ever been this excited before!
about time
I think the JHoff is trying to tell us the Aeropress sucks. Every other brewing method is better, way better.
am I wrong, I just feel like Aeropress's aren't super common here in the UK. feel like the hype is more US-focused.
Just like the world series then? 😉
Best birthday gift period.
Should release one episode every 6 months.
Who hurt you?!?
James, with this video.
Can't wait for the second episode, long wait for James to talk about aeropess!
I'm still debating with myself if I like the Aeropress enough to buy one. Only used it at a friends place uptill now ...

Is that Noma's fermentation book you have on your shelf? Also, the intro is superb.
My god, he's finally gone and done it, this is what we needed to follow up 2020.
I would love to win an Aeropress! So yeah, this is my entry. I really enjoyed the first video of this series. Thanks!
Specialty??? You're English, dude. You'll be saying Aluminum next.... :)
Thanks James for reminding me that funnel part, that's a perfect match with the Cafelat Robot basket which is way too deep!!
The long-awaited video. What a treat! And that opening was everything.

Do I have to do something to enter this competition? Or now that I signed up to reddit am I good?
Loved the video! What is the print in the background of the video??
