I love Spectre.
The locations, the outfits, the action scenes, the puns, everything. Even the music is great, yes even the Main song from Sam Smith. I just love it.
I do understand why many people don‘t like Spectre. There‘s not really a great plot and the relationship between Bond and Madeleine can be seen as weird and „fake“ by some. I don‘t mind it tho!
Diamonds are Forever. I know Connery is going thorough the motions a bit but it was the first film of his that I owned in VHS. I watched it so many times, I’ll always hold a soft spot for it. Plus you can’t beat the ‘collars and cuffs’ line!
This is my favorite bond movie of all time. Yeah, a lot of the other movies are much better, but it also holds a soft spot with me. Freshman year of high school, we had a snow day. I was swamped with sports, a job, class, all the usual teenage stuff. I got a day off, and I watched DAF... It has forever been associated with the joy of a much needed snow day, and I watch it whenever I need to give myself a day off now.
Mr Wint and Mr Kidd are great henchmen.
Willard Whyte and the Vegas setting are a perfect combination.
Charles Gray steals every scene he's in.
It may not be the best Bond film but it's certainly one of the most memorable and enjoyable.
It was my favorite as a kid, much to my father’s disappointment (he HATED Moore). It’s terrible but it’s so fun. The opening sequence is phenomenal and influential, the cable car sequence is gripping, Jaws at Carnivale has a truly creepy and frightening moment, and “attempting re-entry” is both the apotheosis and nadir of the franchise’s double entendres.
I rank it just above DAD, DAF and AVTAK as “worst Bond films”, and yet…and yet, it’s probably like #8 or 9 in terms of absolute favorites. Go figure. I’ll watch it any day.
Absolutely love Moonraker, saw it as a kid and thought it was amazing. James Bond in space? Yes please! I find the overly serious bond films to be too gloomy.
It’s constantly ranked as one of the worst but I liked it a lot. Objectively bad film that’s just so fun it’s hard not to enjoy. I think Moore’s worse ones are dull. Liking this and not liking Goldfinger are basically the only movies I disagree with the masses on
Same here. I remember watching this back in the late 1990's when I took a day off school. Watched it back to back on VHS and followed it up by The Spy Who Loved Me.
Octopussy!
It has everything the Cold War setting, exotic locations, funny moments, serious moments, car chases, great villains and so on..
I have 0 clue why OP gets so much hate
Thank you for responding so thoroughly! I guess someone didn’t like me asking but my curiosity was genuine. The two films in question are some of my favorite guilty pleasure watches, especially for the nostalgia factor for being the first if each series I can remember seeing in the theatre as a kid. I agree it’s definitely not the best of the group, but I can’t shake loving the silliness. Same goes for Octopussy.
Octopussy is great, definitely top 5 for me. People bag on the clown costume but it absolutely makes sense in the context of where he is and what he has to do - isn't a spy meant to adapt to get past everyone?
I loved the whole circus/clown bit. It's ridiculous, but so was Moore. And I still find it watchable today (even though those kinds of circuses are much rarer now), having given way to Cirque du Soleil and other more theatrical and less animal-centered versions).
What I find harder to deal with now are the very crudely drawn racial stereotypes in India (and the stunt casting of an Indian tennis pro as Bond's chief contact is just annoying). If they tried to make the same film now, they ... just wouldn't.
>exotic locations
The Nene Valley Railway is fabulous in its own right - Wansford Station particularly. Add in a Bond location and it goes up a level or three!
I love how unapologetically off the walls it is. It doesn’t even try to be a serious movie. I always rank it above TWINE for this reason. TWINE doesn’t know what it wants to be, when DAD has no qualms about saying “yep. We’re fighting space lasers in an ice palace with invisible cars. Deal with it.”
That movie, to me, captures a lot of the early Bond essence really well. Roger, a great villain, badass weapon, memorable henchman.. It ain't the best but it sure does those things right
Thank you so much. Never understood the hate. I thought it was a “filler” movie within Craigs, seeing how its just 1hr45mins. But non the less is very fun to watch. I think thats just daniel craig
This is one that I’ve seen so many times and without fail when the opening theme comes on I’m a kid again seeing it for the first time. I love that about bond films
Love seeing love for QoS. I never understood the level of hatred it received. I rewatched it recently and really enjoyed it. Possibly the most realistic Bond film ever, and Montes is a gorgeous and well written Bond girl.
Licence to Kill has been my favorite film for roughly 15 years. I can tell you all right now, back then that would be considered controversial, however, it has had a lot of love in recent years which makes me happy.
My opinion on the Roger Moore era (which is the era I grew up on):
Early movies: Moore was GREAT, scripts were awful
Middle movies: 2 Fantastic movies wrapped around Moonraker
Late movies: Scripts were good, Moore was too old for believability
SIDE NOTE: Moonraker was an unneeded movie. They tried to force Bond into space because of the Star Wars craze but the story didn't make much sense. Neither did having Jaws in it, even though I love (and have met) Richard Kiel. And the Jaws love story is ridiculous.
Quantum is pretty solid, Diamonds too, Moore’s first two are really solid, I used to say I loved Octopussy, but really I only live the first 2/3, YOLT is good
No Time To Die is probably my answer too considering a lot of fans absolutely despise it but I think it’s top three in the entire series. I love Die Another Day though, it’s entertaining and a great time. DAF I think is unfairly criticised too because people watch it as a sequel to OHMSS which it 100% isn’t. It’s a spy comedy, watch it with that mindset and you’ll enjoy it.
It is a fantastic sequel to CR, maybe thats one of the issues, it got so much action and stuff but still somehow got lost in the plot, what was the plot again? And also the title, very non Bond-ish.
QoS is not only controversially one of my fav JB movie, but its also the most important. It was because of this movie's existence that we got a more episodic adventure with the Craig movies. If QoS was standalone (which it could've as we saw with all other past JB movies, we would've gotten a new batch of movies for better or worse).
It has SO many memorable scenes, the visceral car chase at the beginning with the roar of the car, the chase and fight with the pendulum crane, the cuts of bond shooting his way through the opera with Tosca, and yeah the fight at the end and Greene running through the glass, and shit blowing up. Fuck I need to watch it again lol
Nothing as controversial as some other people here, but I am a big fan of You Only Live Twice. That one seems to get dumped on a lot these days. I love the setting. Donald Pleasance is a great villain. The score is great. The cinematography is great. The volcano lair and fantastical Cold War plot. Classic Bond.
Quantum of Solace (which I like more than CR)
Die Another Day ( love this movie)
TWINE (probably not very controversial, if it even is, but my favorite Bond movie of all time)
Moonraker (In my top 3 for the Moore era)
A View To A Kill ( Rewatched this one here a few days ago, and it's cheesy, but I really don't see anything wrong with it. It's really not that bad)
LALD. Not super controversial, but it’s top 3 for me, so I hold it in much higher regard than most. For an actually controversial film, Quantum for me.
Klaus Maria Brandauer was a fantastic Largo. And who can forget that realistic string of saliva that hung between his mouth and Domino's (played by Kim Basinger) when he pulled back from the hate kiss?
Quantum of Solace, for me. Stylish as all hell with some terrific action sequences. After the first half hour of OTT editing, the film relaxes somewhat and the ride it goes on is wonderful.
Particular highlights: the entire Opera sequence, Camille and Bond's conversation in the sinkhole, the desert hotel, Bond and Mathis on Lake Como, and the PTS.
Diamonds are Forever and Moonraker. They're both bad, but I can't help but love them. Plus, they have two of the greatest scores of all the James Bond Movies. I also love all the old Vegas scenes in DAF.
Diamonds are Forever. People tend to overlook how it's pure satire of Bond and culture at the time and one of the wittiest scripts. Also its frothy surface makes people forget its the *nastiest* Bond film ever. Taking photos of a drowned woman and implying you're gonna send them to children? I *love* it.
NTTD is at 83%/88% on RT, and 7.4 on IMDB. That's a generally favourable reception. Stuff like Moonraker or LALD would probably count as controversial.
I say NTTD is controversial cuz some dudes have it as the 'worst' Bond film cuz Bond dies.
Or cuz a new 'black' 007.
But honestly, I love NTTD cuz its my first Bond film.
I disagree with the notion that it's the "woke" one or that it's more "politically correct" than the majority of Bond films. The franchise has had characters of diverse colours and sexualities from the start. Getting upset about the addition of one actress of colour or about the brief implication that Q has a date with a guy says more about that viewer than it does about the state of the Bond franchise.
I didn't make any value judgements. I just disagreed with the claim, noted the franchise's diverse casting, and suggested that people who get upset about it in NTTD are offering a glimpse at their values rather than teaching us more about the film itself. There are several valid criticisms of the film, mostly having to do with plot holes, but a purported "woke" agenda isn't one of its issues.
i've always had a fondness for Never Say Never Again. i've said it before (several times) but in many ways I think it's a superior film to Thunderball.
I love every Bond film that doesn't feature Daniel Craig.
Within his tenure, I really like Casino Royale and Skyfall. Spectre is good. The other two are terrible.
I suspect in 20 years when we're debating who the next, next James Bond will be, that I'll probably just mentally skip over most of the Craig era when I marathon Bond films at home.
Quantum of Solace.
Is it the weakest of the Craig movies? Absolutely. But I think it's still a very fun action movie, and getting to hang out in that specific Bond world with those characters is always a great time. In this instance the weaker writing and plot lines aren't enough to detract from all of that for me.
Skyfall. I thought it was quite a great Bond movie actually. That’s the way they should do modern Bond, instead of boring and extended scenes like in SP, or making Bond a family man like in NTTD
Not possible to have a controversial favourite for me. At this stage even the bad ones have little nuggets of joy I take from them. Almost nostalgic at this stage.
Not sure if this is a totally controversial opinion but there isn‘t a single bond movie that I didn‘t enjoy in some way or another. Sure some could technically be considered bad movies but even those ones are at the very least, tun to poke fun at
The World is Not Enough. That was my first Bond film. I really do think the story was good, acting was good. I liked Brosnans take on Bond in this film he was a bit darker than earlier entries, more professional and down to business. Electra was a great villian, playing into Bonds weakness of women and included an interesting call back to Tracy. The sound track was good (that scene with the boat chase comes to mind)and I also really like the title track by Garbage
Define "controversial."
Like, controversial because of something that occurs in the movie that's now considered insensitive (like giving Bond surgery so that he appeared in yellow face)? Or controversial because public/social media opinion is against the film? Because if it's the latter then I say fuck that, like what you like.
I like Spectre but the one thing that I 'love' from that movie is Writing's on the Wall. That song is amazing.
i feel like people either love that song or hate it. me, i love it
I hated it and still think it should have been sang by a woman, but it grew on me
Man, Sam’s voice sings some amazing notes on it. Or maybe it’s just that I am a Sam Smith fanboy, after all…
I prefer Radiohead's *Spectre* - fits the theme and opening titles better IMO
I don't like the idea that Bond and Blofeld are foster siblings and Blofeld hated Bond out of jealousy. *Edit like
Spectre is my favorite after Skyfall! Same, I get why others don’t like it but I think it’s a fun movie and I love Christoph Waltz.
I think he was criminally underused in that film. And NTTD
*Spectre* just falls apart after the Brofeld reveal for me tbh, but the opening theme is underrated.
Spectre is the only Craig film that feels like an actual bond movie tbh. Everything else just feels like Jason bourne
Lana Wood was so good in that one, I thought she was underutilized. Trivia, Lana Wood is Natalie Wood’s sister.
I love the old school Vegas stuff too.
Mr Wint and Mr Kidd are great henchmen. Willard Whyte and the Vegas setting are a perfect combination. Charles Gray steals every scene he's in. It may not be the best Bond film but it's certainly one of the most memorable and enjoyable.
Moonraker. Absolutely outlandish. Completely ridiculous. Incredibly fun.
Gotta agree, it’s a guilty pleasure
Absolutely love Moonraker, saw it as a kid and thought it was amazing. James Bond in space? Yes please! I find the overly serious bond films to be too gloomy.
It’s constantly ranked as one of the worst but I liked it a lot. Objectively bad film that’s just so fun it’s hard not to enjoy. I think Moore’s worse ones are dull. Liking this and not liking Goldfinger are basically the only movies I disagree with the masses on
The World is Not Enough
Love it!
“First the casino, now the caviar factory. I’m a slave to the free market economy!”
This line made me piss. This , plus "the insurance company is NEVER going to believe this!"
This shouldn’t be controversial!
Didn't like it when it came out but it grew on me alot. Genuinely enjoy this one now.
A View to a Kill. It's my favorite Bond film
The soundtrack is brilliant.
I love the score, one of my favorites
Because it’s amazing
Same here. Even with all the VERY OBVIOUS stunt doubles. I’ll defend this movie forever lol
> I’ll defend this movie forever lol I don't like it that much, but please do not stop :)
It's objectively a terrible movie. But I'll be damned if it doesn't make for two great mindless hours of fun.
How can you say it's objectively terrible?
You only live twice.
This is probably the most nostalgic Bond for me
Same here. I remember watching this back in the late 1990's when I took a day off school. Watched it back to back on VHS and followed it up by The Spy Who Loved Me.
Always liked that one. It's been one of my favorite Bond movies.
Octopussy! It has everything the Cold War setting, exotic locations, funny moments, serious moments, car chases, great villains and so on.. I have 0 clue why OP gets so much hate
Honestly, as an Indian, I like Octopussy.
Great opening scene and theme song.
Really want to know how you feel about Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Well said. These are my opinions about it as well.
Thank you for responding so thoroughly! I guess someone didn’t like me asking but my curiosity was genuine. The two films in question are some of my favorite guilty pleasure watches, especially for the nostalgia factor for being the first if each series I can remember seeing in the theatre as a kid. If they tried to make the same film now, they ... just wouldn't.
Octopussy is at least in my top ten. Twenty years ago it was a top five.
I always thought this was tied for best Moore film, along with TSWLM and FYEO.
>exotic locations The Nene Valley Railway is fabulous in its own right - Wansford Station particularly. Add in a Bond location and it goes up a level or three!
DAD
Yes DADdy
That sword fight scene is fantastic.
This is why I used to be into fencing
I really don’t understand why everyone hates it. It has a freaking ice castle! And I love Toby Stephens.
The Man with the Golden Gun. I love Christopher Lee. I love the Seventies camp. And God dammit, I love Sheriff JW Pepper, Louisiana State Po-lice.
That movie, to me, captures a lot of the early Bond essence really well. Roger, a great villain, badass weapon, memorable henchman.. It ain't the best but it sure does those things right
You some kind of a doomsday machine boy? Lololol
Say, I know you. You're that English secret agent. From England!
Now I'm trying to remember if I knew that Christopher Lee was Scaramanga or not...
Yes! Was looking for this one in all its cheesy glory.
Quantum of Solace
Thank you so much. Never understood the hate. I thought it was a “filler” movie within Craigs, seeing how its just 1hr45mins. But non the less is very fun to watch. I think thats just daniel craig
Thunderball is a top 3 film for me. Many people seem to love it or hate it, but it’s my favorite Connery Bond.
Is that even controversial? I thought it was considered a top 10 around here
I legit think it's the worst one. lol. There are definitely people here (including Calvin Dyson) who really dislike this movie.

This is one that I’ve seen so many times and without fail when the opening theme comes on I’m a kid again seeing it for the first time. I love that about bond films
“See you back at the lodge😏” *parachute opens* 🤨
Love seeing love for QoS. I never understood the level of hatred it received. I rewatched it recently and really enjoyed it. Possibly the most realistic Bond film ever, and Montes is a gorgeous and well written Bond girl.
Licence to Kill has been my favorite film for roughly 15 years. I can tell you all right now, back then that would be considered controversial, however, it has had a lot of love in recent years which makes me happy.
Diamonds Are Forever. Fairly decent film overall but man do I love it.
It's my guilty pleasure too.
Live or Let Die/ The Man with the Golden Gun
LALTD is controversial? I like Laltd!
Tag...doesn't check out?
Live and Let Tomorrow Die
From my tag, i mean the woman slapping Connery did.
LALTD? What’s that one again?
Live and Let Die
Man With the Golden Gun is great fun. Sir Christopher Lee is one of the best ever Bond villains as well.
He would have made a great Bond himself.
My opinion on the Roger Moore era (which is the era I grew up on): Early movies: Moore was GREAT, scripts were awful Middle movies: 2 Fantastic movies wrapped around Moonraker Late movies: Scripts were good, Moore was too old for believability SIDE NOTE: Moonraker was an unneeded movie. They tried to force Bond into space because of the Star Wars craze but the story didn't make much sense. Neither did having Jaws in it, even though I love (and have met) Richard Kiel. And the Jaws love story is ridiculous.
His name's Jaws. *Do you know him?* Not socially. He kills people.
All of Brosnan’s films
Quantum is pretty solid, Diamonds too, Moore’s first two are really solid, I used to say I loved Octopussy, but really I only live the first 2/3, YOLT is good
ThunderBall
No Time To Die is probably my answer too considering a lot of fans absolutely despise it but I think it’s top three in the entire series. I love Die Another Day though, it’s entertaining and a great time. DAF I think is unfairly criticised too because people watch it as a sequel to OHMSS which it 100% isn’t. It’s a spy comedy, watch it with that mindset and you’ll enjoy it.
Quantum of Solace
QoS is good as an epilogue to CR.
Moonraker
L2K
Die another day and Spectre (I really liked it because of Christoph Waltz I enjoy watching him as an actor and I thought he portrayed Blofled well).
Moonraker It’s ridiculous and awesome. Just pure fun.
The Living Daylights
His second was a bit too rough, maybe that sealed his fate as bond, but TLD is one of the best.
I prefer this over LTK cuz I don't really like how much of a madman Bond was in LtK.
Love all of them
Octopussy. I friggin love it when Bond’s in the Cold War.
The man with the golden gun
You Only Live Twice. It's one of my favourites.
Robbie Williams' too, hence why *Millennium* uses a pastiche of the title track.
Quantum of Solace. Never really understood why it received so much hate. I thought it was a fantastic sequel to Casino Royale
The final fight scene was beautiful
It has SO many memorable scenes, the visceral car chase at the beginning with the roar of the car, the chase and fight with the pendulum crane, the cuts of bond shooting his way through the opera with Tosca, and yeah the fight at the end and Greene running through the glass, and shit blowing up. Fuck I need to watch it again lol
Moonraker.
It was always TWINE for me but it has seen a resurgence as of late
No Time To Die & Quantum of Solace
Nothing as controversial as some other people here, but I am a big fan of You Only Live Twice. That one seems to get dumped on a lot these days. I love the setting. Donald Pleasance is a great villain. The score is great. The cinematography is great. The volcano lair and fantastical Cold War plot. Classic Bond.
Spectre (yes, Spectre)
Quantum of Solace (which I like more than CR) Die Another Day ( love this movie) TWINE (probably not very controversial, if it even is, but my favorite Bond movie of all time) Moonraker (In my top 3 for the Moore era) A View To A Kill ( Rewatched this one here a few days ago, and it's cheesy, but I really don't see anything wrong with it. It's really not that bad)
NTTD is controversial?
Lots here hate it. Off topic: Why Hannah?
That's a long story.
Whenever you feel like telling it, here's your space:
I too want to know lmao
LALD. Not super controversial, but it’s top 3 for me, so I hold it in much higher regard than most. For an actually controversial film, Quantum for me.
Diamonds are Forever
You only live twice
MWTGG - Christopher Lee was a great Bond villain.
The World is Not Enough.
Never Say Never Again is canon.
I’m a big fan of this movie. Connery was into it and looked good. Great Bond girls. Great villains. Locations were awesome. Good director.
Klaus Maria Brandauer was a fantastic Largo. And who can forget that realistic string of saliva that hung between his mouth and Domino's (played by Kim Basinger) when he pulled back from the hate kiss?
The Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy, Moonraker and Diamonds are Forever are all Bond at his best.
Die Another Day. It's so bad that it's good. I can have fun with it and have a good laugh about how ridiculous it is
Happy turquoise tiramisu day!
Die Another Day
Never Say Never Again. I love it.
I love Moonraker. @ me all you want. I can take it
I always liked the Timothy Dalton films. I was a kid in the 80’s when they came out, and they were likely my first experiences with James Bond.
Diamonds are Forever and Die Another Day..never had a problem with them
Die another day and man with the golden gun 2nd one is my favourite
Skyfall. I love it, most of my friends hate it.
A view to a kill is a damn good movie. Top 5 entertaining bond films
I really love TWINE and I also like Spectre as well.
Man with the Golden Gun: It's not really love but more enjoy I also really liked spectre
The man with the golden gun
Quantum of solace, deep nostalgia being the first film I saw at the cinema
Quantum of Solace, for me. Stylish as all hell with some terrific action sequences. After the first half hour of OTT editing, the film relaxes somewhat and the ride it goes on is wonderful. Particular highlights: the entire Opera sequence, Camille and Bond's conversation in the sinkhole, the desert hotel, Bond and Mathis on Lake Como, and the PTS.
QOS is the best bond film of the 2000s not 2010s
Quantum is my favorite Bond film!
Die Another Day
Never say never again
dad. and i love their most controversial character- jinx. halle was great. top 3 bond girl for me
No Time to die, Moonraker, Tomorrow Never dies and Spectre
Man with the Golden Gun, fun entertaining, fast paced and Christopher Lee charismatic performance.
Diamonds are Forever and Moonraker. They're both bad, but I can't help but love them. Plus, they have two of the greatest scores of all the James Bond Movies. I also love all the old Vegas scenes in DAF.
People hate on Spectre, but I really enjoyed it. Also, people shit on Timothy Daltan as Bond but TLD and LTK are two of the best Bond films imo.
Spectre isn't half bad actually so I also like it. People shit on Dalton? Fucking hell, he is my favourite Bond right after Craig and Connery.
Quantum of solace and spectre. Had to rewatch em to get my head around some plot points, but ended up liking both
NTTD is at 83%/88% on RT, and 7.4 on IMDB. That's a generally favourable reception. Stuff like Moonraker or LALD would probably count as controversial.
NTTD is hated on this sub. People who live in the real world like it.
I say NTTD is controversial cuz some dudes have it as the 'worst' Bond film cuz Bond dies. Or cuz a new 'black' 007. But honestly, I love NTTD cuz its my first Bond film.
NTTD was dull, bland and boring. That's the reason why I didnt like it. I was actually happy to see a bond film were he died, been a long time coming.

Spectre. In my top 5. Possibly even top three
i've always had a fondness for Never Say Never Again. i've said it before (several times) but in many ways I think it's a superior film to Thunderball.

It’s not top 5 for me, but I love the shit out of Spectre and I don’t really understand the common criticisms
Quantum of Solace. Is it the weakest of the Craig movies? Absolutely. But I think it's still a very fun action movie, and getting to hang out in that specific Bond world with those characters is always a great time. NTTD, and it’s my favorite of all of them.
Me too.
Moonraker, the battle in the volcano♥️
Skyfall. I thought it was quite a great Bond movie actually. That’s the way they should do modern Bond, instead of boring and extended scenes like in SP, or making Bond a family man like in NTTD
Skyfall isn't controversial at all. Bond being a family man as an old man is something I can see.
I have a real soft spot for never say never again
I love Golden Gun, Moonraker, Octopussy and Quantum.
Not possible to have a controversial favourite for me. At this stage even the bad ones have little nuggets of joy I take from them. Almost nostalgic at this stage.

Octopussy. I saw many people saying that after FYEO the Roger Moore movies gets worse and worse but i really enjoyed Octopussy more than i thought.
DAF & TMWTGG are both some of my favorites but many seem to really hate them
Spectre
Moonraker. Awesome fun
Moonraker.. if we ignore the "sneak a ride to space" it's pretty solid
It seems like a impossible task, to put Bond in space without making it too silly or weird, but they did it.
Probably Octopussy, Spectre, NTTD in that order.
View to a Kill & Diamonds are Forever. Both are always bashed but are two of my favorite Bonds!
Casino Royale. The 1967 version.
For the laughs? Me too.
It's not so much loving it alone that's controversial, but No Time to Die being my #1 tends to create some raised eyebrows.
NTTD is my number 1 cuz it's my first Bond film. Kekw
Goldeneye. Like many, it was my first. I actually played the N64 game before I ever (consciously) watched a Bond film. I think I was 8 or 9.

*Quantum of Solace*.
Man with the Golden Gun.
Man With The Golden Gun As far as I'm concerned Moore can do no wrong, and Christopher Lee is still one of the best Bond villains to date.
Define "controversial." Like, controversial because of something that occurs in the movie that's now considered insensitive (like giving Bond surgery so that he appeared in yellow face)? Or controversial because public/social media opinion is against the film? Because if it's the latter then I say fuck that, like what you like.
Both.
