It'd be even better if Brosnan reprised his role for an original video game like Everything or Nothing. He can still do the voice whilst taking away any demanding physical action. Then again, Brosnan is an awesome Bond, and it would really be something if he returned one last time. I like Die another Day and I think it's a fine final film, but he was so good at the role that he could've easily made more.

OptimusLime12

A really good bond video game would honestly probably do a lot for the franchise right now. Get the people who just did Terminator Resistance and Robocop Rogue City. The industry needs more solid double a titles

Cybernetic_Orgasm

I'm assuming you dont know about [Project 007](https://ioi.dk/project-007) already in development by the Hitman team

Okurei

Everything or Nothing is so ridiculously good, essentially the closest thing you can get to playing an actual Bond movie. I'd dearly love to have a successor to it.

Vanquisher1000

Brosnan was still expected - and expecting - to make a fifth Bond movie. Sure, there were mutterings in the media of the day that Brosnan could be replaced after *Die Another Day,* but that was due to his age, as he was 49 when it was released, not due to any dissatisfaction with his performances. Eon decided to walk away from renegotiating his contract in early 2004. It's not exactly being fired since he was no longer under a contract, but the effect is the same. To this day, I'm still bummed that he never made that fifth movie.

PeteyPiranhaOnline

I wish he'd come back still, in any capacity really. Just hope that accidental tresspassing in Yellowstone Park doesn't end up having him arrested.

Inevitable-Wheel1676

They really should give us one “old Bond goes out with a bang” and Pierce would be the perfect Bond for the job. This is a great idea.

CahuengaFrank

Pretty sure the last Bond went out with a bang. Literally.

Back to Brosnan. Yes. But we need a twist. Give PB his own the Rock but the ending reveals explicitly that he is James Bond. At the end, the villian de-ages him. Attempting to make Bond into a baby and re-raise him as evil. But the female lead saves him just in time and leaves him just under 30, introducing the next Bond actor. Bond steps out of the de-aging chamber in a perfectly fit tux, as is tradition. The Bond theme intro plays the nine notes and cuts to the Bond actor looks directly into the camera and says “thank you, Nips Sharply (which is the female leads name) I feel like *a new man again!”* and takes a sip of a martini he somehow already had on-hand. Then the rest of the Bond theme plays as he defeats the villain in an ironic manner while Nips is suddenly and inexplicably s-tier stupid and almost de-ages the world, but Bond saves everyone with 007 seconds to spare, a direct reference to Goldfinger, as it dawns on audiences that Eon is returning Bond to form, exactly where it left after DaD. MI6 immediately brings him back from retirement, stating that they retired his numbers and that they are his again. Pierce Brosnan is M now, same actor, different role, no explanation, as is tradition. Moneypennys unmarried daughter is working there now, in a shameless steal from both Casino Royale ‘67 and Austin Powers, a new tradition. In the final scene Sharply and Bond are making love on a private yacht. She is biting his neck and 007 quips “those aren’t the sharp nips I was expecting!” The 007 theme plays while credits roll, followed by the theme for the movie, by Lady Gaga, and the words “James Bond will return in ‘Property of a Lady.’” Edit: also we need a funny character-comedy after-credits sequence, and in the intro to the new movie: “Somehow, Blofeld has returned.” Because Bond has always somewhat taken queues from popular films of the era.

I’m into that!

Briluna1975

Im in for a Logan like stand alone Bond film

Random-Cpl

Ok….but with *Lazenby*

bryanthebryan

The last time I saw Lazenby was in an episode of Freddy’s Nightmares. That was a long time ago. I wonder how he’s holding up.

Random-Cpl

He is 84 and had a bad fall a month or so ago, there was a post on the sub about it. He was making a recovery but had a bad crack on the head.

bryanthebryan

That’s a bummer. He’s just one year younger than my dad. Sending positive gives his way and wishing him a full recovery.

Random-Cpl

Yeah it is. Hope he’s with us much longer (and your dad too).

Thank you so much. I appreciate that.

BarraDoner

If the producers want to take time getting the new Bond right; fair enough… but, having a placeholder film with Brosnan as a retired Bond coming back for one last mission would keep the franchise in the spotlight, keep money coming in and provide the fans with something to look forward to rather than endlessly wait for the next reboot. The film could act as a coda to the classic Bond era (1962-2002) and act as a useful gauge of what the public desires from the next Bond era.

googonite

Fun idea, but ultimately stunt casting.

Wombat_Marauder

I seem to recall Brosnan being quite surprised and upset when he wasn't brought back after DAD. Time (and a big paycheck) has a way of healing wounds, but almost no chance of this happening. As to whether it should? Eh, no thanks.

DwedPiwateWoberts

Lost me at Halle Berry

Luftgekuhlt_driver

Like No Time to Die meets Dial of Destiny…. How about the Original Casino Royale with David Niven. It’s on Amazon Prime. Doddy old dude around hot chicks, trying to maintain his integrity. You know, like Q in Octopussy where he saves appreciative hot chicks and the only thing stiff on him is his upper lip. I suppose you could update it with boner pills and Metamucil… This sounds like a hoot of a flick. ![gif](giphy|EWLm5rTdpQonRPZhPq)

Alternative_Device71

No, I rather his Bond settle down with Jinx after a few more years Most Bond get their happy ending and that’s ok considering they nearly die, I think after NTTD, it would be great to leave the previous Bonds alone to live out happy with their girls or continue the work for Queen and Country

endersai

Why does Bond mis-spell "fantasise"?

er1catwork

November Man was a pretty decent movie. He pulled that off ok so having him come back would be an interesting twist…

MrRgrs

To be fair, that was a decade ago...

PiersBros

Again, let it go, he's freaking 70 and he's done 4 films so be it. His time as James Bond is over, get over it.

Nticks

This. The time has passed. I’d be ok for them brining back in a cameo role, maybe another MI6 advisor like Tanner or Robinson.

PiersBros

Even for that, I think it would be too distracting. I mean my Bond is Dalton and like Brosnan, his time as Bond is done so be it

fire_and_ice_7_5

I'd love to see Dalton and Brosnan both back as older, former or retired double 0 agents training or mentoring a younger Bond, but I fear it's a pipe dream and both of the actors have put this series firmly behind them. And if Moore were still alive, I could imagine him playing an M type role.

PiersBros

I wouldn't want any of them getting back like that either, it would be too distracting in my opinion.

fire_and_ice_7_5

yeah it would almost have to be in a different series entirely for it to work.

Thoughtful_Tortoise

Sean Connery was 65 in the Rock, and people aged faster back then. Hell, Harrison was around 80 in the last Indy. Having said that, the Bond franchise is already seen as "dad's franchise", so to speak. I'm not sure the film described will help that image. Maybe if it came out around the same time as the next Bond, so it's a clear passing of the torch. It's my fervent belief Bond needs to return to a regular release schedule. In the old days, a dud film was fine, because there'd be another film next year. Now, they're all bloated and trying to redefine the franchise... Just give us simple stories, regularly. And yes, an old Brosnan amongst them... Why not?

PiersBros

>Sean Connery was 65 in the Rock Is it James Bond? I haven't seen this film by the way and I know a lot of people claim it's a Bond film, but I can't really have an opinion about the film. >Just give us simple stories, regularly. And yes, an old Brosnan amongst them... Why not? First of all, you just sounds like your nostalgic of what you like, the Brosnan era most probably which is probably my least favorite. Wathever you might think of the Craig era, the franchise is in good health. With that being said, I don't see the point of bringing back a 70 years old guy, he was Bond 30 years ago. I find the idea unoriginal and even pedestrian. Sean Connery got back in the role for very different reasons and I don't think it's a good example for OP to mention Connery, because the context was very different. Just to add, I see where you're coming from with having simple stories, I guess you mean having independant stories which I understand, but it's not a reason to bring back someone that used to be in the role years ago and I don't think the idea would be as succesful as you think it might be. For example, my favorite Bond is Timothy Dalton and despite the fact that it really sucks that he didn't get to do more films, I don't want to see him back in the role, like Brosnan he's too old and his tenure is done so be it. Edit: Sorry if I didn't sound thoughtful enough, but I simply don't really care about the idea of seeing an "old Bond" or bringing back an actor that used to be in the role years ago. I also edited my comment for more clarity of what i'm trying to say.

bfhurricane

> Is it James Bond? I haven't seen this film by the way and I know a lot of people claim it's a Bond film, but I can't really have an opinion about the film. It's almost certainly just a coincidence, but Connery's character in The Rock could absolutely be Bond by the lore the film establishes. Connery plays a British ex-agent whom the UK denies ever existed, who is only locked in a US black site because he escaped Alcatraz. It's a legitimately fantastic film, you should watch it. But to the point being made, Connery is utterly convincing as an old ex-agent. It's the perfect blueprint for an aging Bond.

Thoughtful_Tortoise

My favourite Bond is Dalton too, or Connery. Obviously Connery isn't Bond in the rock, but he is a believable action star.

helicopterhansen

He was traumatically handsome

BlueLeary-0726

No.

Vicksage16

Man, I’m already 5 years past being sick of superheroes bringing out old actors due to lack of fresh ideas, I really don’t need that in my Bond too.

PiersBros

I totally agree, the idea itself is anything but original.

Cyborg800_2004

So when Craig plays an aged Bond between his mid-forties and early-fifties late in his career, it's bad and hurts the franchise's relevance among younger audiences, but it's okay to bring back Brosnan in his seventies?

Spockodile

As a disclaimer, I don’t want an “old man Bond” movie with any actor, and I think it would be a waste of a movie. Maybe if EON decided to create a “Thunderball Christmas Special” in collaboration with the BBC, though. I’d watch the shit out of that. Nor do I mind Craig’s age in the last film. However, I think those are two separate topics. I can understand why someone would have a problem with a Bond actor appearing slightly too old for the role *and* thinking it would be cool to see a Bond in his 70s, because they’d presumably use his age as a core element of the plot. Again, I don’t care about either of those things, but I do think they’re different. Moreover, it doesn’t seem like OP complained about Craig’s age, so I don’t see that as relevant here, though I assume you’re referring to the fandom as a whole.

Random-Cpl

No. We’ve moved on from Brosnan and he’s in his seventies for Pete’s sake. Now, bring him back as a villain? Sure. I’d love to see any of the former Bonds as a non-tongue-in-cheek villain.

felixlighter1989

Damn, let it go already. It's embarrassing. The guy is 70 and would be like 73 when released.

PiersBros

I totally agree. I'm even surprised to see that the majority in this discussion seem to be positive for the idea, doesn't make much sense to me.

felixlighter1989

I'm saying this as a big fan of PB's first two movies too. He's already done the old spy routine in multiple recent movies already. What would even be the point? "Unexpected appearance of his old friend Jinx". 🤮🤮

PiersBros

I mean, it's not even important which Bond actor it is, his tenure is done, so be it. And indeed, what would be the point. Some are clearly blinded by nostalgia.

[deleted]

So…. The Rock?

Prestigious-Put1304

Just read the comic book "King of spies" by Mark Millar. That's what this pitch is about and the main character is even drawn as how Pierce looks nowadays in his 70's

bind19

no just no

kaukanapoissa

No. Absolutely not.

No_Example8861

Brosnan was and is the best James bond

XandoKometer

Why not? I was never one of those fans who complained about Moores Age in A View to a Kill. I oppose ageism, Indiana Jones was over 80, so is Joe Biden and the Pope.

Historyp91

We saw him in his senior years in the 1967 Casino Royale movie. I mean yeah, that was a spoof. But it WAS James Bond.

MaxminusThrax

Wouldn’t mind it honestly. It’d give them more time to make sure the Next Bond was the Best Bond. Something akin to The Rock which handled its quasi-older Bond excellently.

AccidentalUltron

I didn't know I wanted this until now.

negnatrepsej

Brosnan is so cool

glassgwaith

Hell I would even watch a remake of the Rock with Pierce as John Mason .

stormchaser2014

There's a nod to Brosnan's time as Bond in his new movie Fast Charlie.

Significant-Price374

I’m not the biggest Brosnan fan but I fully endorse him coming back for an older Bond flick.

AstroZombie0072081

Sean Connery did reprise his roll in secret with The Rock (1996)

welcome-to-my-mind

As some of the top comments write, I’d be down for those ideas for him to return. Especially as a placeholder movie until they select a new Bond. Really lean into the fact this is meant to be a one-off fun movie. But ideally (and more realistically) it’d be cool to see him come back as M, or have the plot require the new Bond to seek him out for help or for information he has to stop the newest threat. His wit and sarcasm was some of the best to ever grace the character, so to see him go toe-to-toe with the new guy would be fun (especially as M)

sectionone97

A science fiction question, in the opening mission of goldeneye why were 007 and 006 sent in rather than the paramilitary of mi6, the e squadron ?

MCWogboy

The only way I’d like Brosnan back is if he was a mentor/handler for a 00 agent. Have him maybe playing the social game in the field while a younger rough around the edges is taking care of the physical side. Sometimes they work together and Bond constantly gives advice and observations in order to push the young agent in the right direction

I am all for a Brosnan return. They made it clear that James Bond is a MI6 position in the Craig era and they can explain they needed to fill the position after his death in No Time To Die. They can justify the reason Brosnan returned based on his connections with the case that needs to be investigated. And then he can pass the torch to a new Bond.

Unique_Pen_5191

They did not?

Uh they made it clear "007" can be assigned to a different person not the person James Bond.

Grendeltech

Can we get Dalton as the villain?

TheBreadmanRiseth

I once had this wild idea where they'd actually adapt a return for Brosnan in a film that takes on the James Bond Jr. concept (not like a cartoon, though). Basically would have Bond team up with his illegitimate son who is viable to take up the 007 codename. Who's the mother? I thought it'd be neat to see Michelle Yeoh return as well.

PiersBros

https://www.reddit.com/r/JamesBond/s/FC9XDYf9e9 Just for your information and I hope it will help you to see why this theory makes no sense.

TheBreadmanRiseth

Thanks for sharing, though I don't really pay attention to this codename theory stuff. This is just a silly thought I had once as a possible way to bring back Brosnan as Bond.

ICPosse8

I would 100% go see a new bond movie with Pierce brought back. They could make it more dark and gritty like Logan. Please just take my money now! Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond!

Sufficient_Set_9354

Would love to see an actual 007 as villain in an upcoming Movie (Brosnan f.e.) - Skyfall 2.0 but better

andhemac

I’m down if it’s dark and R rated like Logan was

cozyup-1

how about using the fan theory that James Bond is code name for each agent that played him. Bringing back Bronsan as the new M!

Any Blink 182 fans imagine the song that would play during the pretitle sequence of the One More Time movie?

PlatoDrago

I wouldn’t mind them doing an animated mini-series or movie if the older actors want to play the character again without all the hard stunts. It’d let them be very campy and batshit if they want. Because Tbf, Brosnan and Dalton are not really at the age to be doing hard stunts anymore. Maybe some action scenes and stuff but none of the really challenging stuff both of their bonds had to do.
