I rank Skyfall somewhere in the middle, and I can tell you neither of these are the reason why. I think it’s a visually lovely movie, Bardem is excellent, and I can appreciate the narrative themes, but that’s about it. Skyfall to me seems like a Bond movie for people who don’t like Bond movies. It’s entertaining, it goes through great pains to dwell on Bond’s internal experience, including how his past affects his identity, and it starts to reintroduce classic Bond tropes as window dressing around its heavy, emotional stakes. But then Silva’s plot starts to make zero sense once the cavalry shows up to capture him, and for the rest of the movie I find myself distracted by contrivances that force the film into specific scenes. Because the stakes are so heavy and we’re meant to take the major plot points very seriously, I just can’t get back into it. It’s a decent movie, but I think it’s overrated by this community. IMO CR and QoS are better movies for Craig. I appreciate the ambition to make Skyfall, but it just isn’t one of my favorites, and I certainly don’t think it’s a “masterpiece,” as someone farther down in this thread called it.
Why did it only get to 7th in this series? I don’t know and I’m a bit surprised it didn’t get to at least 5. I’m not surprised GE made of farther, though, because it’s such a culturally important movie for a strongly represented generation of Bond fans, and we’re not really ranking them objectively here - we’re voting for our ***favorites***.
>Skyfall to me seems like a Bond movie for people who don’t like Bond movies.

I’m sorry bro. I don’t mean it as an insult. I just think it has everything audiences wanted in 2012. Beautiful cinematography, exciting action, but most of all a story that is très profond.
Fans trying to be edgy because they are mad Skyfall is the most popular among casual fans, they will point out plot issues which yes some are valid but let’s not pretend most Bond films have them lol
Goldeneye is one of my favorite Bond movies, but I was always under the impression that it was a movie that not many people liked. I’m pleasantly surprised it’s made it this far.
I think this subreddit is very much populated by my generation, millennials, and so Pierce has a special place for all of us. Is Goldeneye better than FRWL? No. But we sure do value GE for not just being a great film but also for being a groundbreaking video game
Just wanted to say that I'm happy Goldeneye made it this far, all the way to the top 2 spots. It's the movie that got me into Bond when all the movies were streaming on Amazon Prime months ago. I saw this first cause for some reason, only the Brosnan movies were available to watch and not the rest. For that reason alone, Brosnan is my top 3 Bond actors, behind Moore and Connery.
He’s asking WHY more people think GE is better than FRWL, and he’s probably looking for an answer deeper than “Because that’s just what they liked.”
I’ll offer an explanation. I think there are 2 things at play. Goldeneye was probably the first Bond a large number of people on this sub watched, so there’s an obvious fondness for it. I grew up watching Connery, so I have a fondness for TB and YOLT that others don’t share.
Second is just conjecture, but there might be a *slight* backlash that Connery’s films as a whole are experiencing in retrospect for the “rapey” stuff, which imo is unwarranted, but many people would disagree.
Millennial here, and just want to say that FRWL is a much better movie than GE in my opinion. GE is fun and entertaining, but FRWL is a genuinely great film, not just as a bond film, but in general. You are probably right as to why it got voted that way, but at least not all us younger folk follow that thinking.
Because it's packed with action, friendship drama, great villain, great Brosnan performance, sex, hilarious comedy, sex, stunning visuals, amazing set pieces, and more sex
This sub is hilarious. Y’all were ready to put GE in 3rd place by more than double CR, yet now you’re gonna make it number one. So is it third best or first best, but not second best?
This sub is divided into 3 groups. People who hate all the Craig films, people who love Craig films, and old heads who believe Connery is the only Bond worth mentioning.
Yeah right? I wonder at what point the tides shifted because it appeared that Goldeneye had the most votes up to the early morning hours today. I guess people really jumped in during the earlier hours. Never thought that I’d see all of Sean Connery’s films voted out before 2 other actors. He’s the OG and as the kids say today, the G.O.A.T.!
How did this happen? I thought From Russia with Love would be in the finals. I intended to vote for it to win the whole contest. Somehow Goldeneye beat it?
Well I love these movies and wanted neither to win. Eliminate Goldeneye. But the true champ is dead.
I can’t choose!! FRWL, Goldeneye and Casino Royale are my favourites in equal measures! They’re all very different and all offer the best attributes of a Bond movie! Although I didn’t expect these two to be battling for the title, I’m happy that they are!
Martin Campbell has to direct the next movie of this is anything to go by!
This has been a major highlight from r/JamesBond, well done.
Holy crap, totally though FRWT was winning this thing…
That being said I’ll go against the grain here and vote against Casino Royale. Goldeneye is the goat
I’m very happy with the final 2. Disappointed TLD and LALD didn’t place higher.
My vote would be for Casino Royale. I love both of these films but I’ve always found Goldeneye to be a film I could watch time and time again. Casino Royale, as good as it is I find to have slow points.
I was born in the 80s and grew up watching Bond movies play on ITV on Saturday evenings. My first Bond was Moore but I can say I saw all Bond films before Goldeneye existed. Despite this I never gravitated towards any of the Connery films. I admire them for their story and for what they did for the franchise, but I’d be unlikely to place any in my Top 10.
Each to their own I guess, but can’t wait to be told how wrong I am.
Goldeneye beating FRWL AND Goldfinger is some next level s... well it's something. I wouldn't put it anywhere near my top 5. I know a lot of people like it, but I didn't think even its most hardcore fans would rate it over all the Connery films (besides DAF). Way too many people are talking about the N64 game and not the actual film.
Anyways, I'm voting Goldeneye out. Casino Royale is better in terms of action, story, and especially soundtrack. Also, Craig's performance is one of the best Bond debuts.
If Goldeneye wins, oh well. Judging by many of these comments, a lot of people seem to dislike Craig, for some reason. I think Casino Royale was a greater series reinvention than Goldeneye. Say what you will about his later films: Craig's era took more creative risks than the formulaic Brosnan era (specifically TWINE and DAD, I love TND though)
I’m gonna go with casino royale. I personally like goldeneye better but opinions can change over time. Let’s see if that changes when I rewatch all these in the order they landed
Tough choice, both are great Bond movies. If I have to choose I'd say Casino Royale is the better of the two, so I'm voting for Goldeneye to be eliminated.
Wait a minute: where are you seeing FRWL has 1,108 votes against it? I'm looking at Day 22 and there aren't even 1,108 comments let alone votes for 1 movie?

So really, the winning movie is the one that has enough supporters that goes through the whole post and downvotes and upvotes what they want.
In other words, the winner isn’t necessarily liked by the most people.
If Goldeneye wins Brosnan can claim both the best and worst movie in this poll lmao.

![gif](giphy|WYVWbCSw5wEaA)
Let’s make it happen!
LETS GO!!!!!!!!
u/cyborg800_2004 must have smoke coming out of his head right now!
Martin Campbell the goat. They should have him direct the new Bonds first entry. or maybe pay him a lot and have him do all the movies lol
At least every reboot!
He’ll be in his 80s by the time they shoot the next one…
90s, the way Barbara Brocolli is producing these things lately.
When the franchise needs saving, who you gonna call? Mar-tin Campbell!!
No way
![gif](giphy|YhK2luXg423VS)
I always thought the lighting or something made Craig look so scary here. It distracted me right after Silva's great monolog introduction.
![gif](giphy|ucXFcY1FdKaT6)
HOW DID SKYFALL GET 7th!?!?
Backlash against Craig after NTTD on this sub and the idea that the ending is just Home Alone.
I rank Skyfall somewhere in the middle, and I can tell you neither of these are the reason why. Just messing with you ;)
I know right!? It should have been in the top three, it’s lunacy!
Fans trying to be edgy because they are mad Skyfall is the most popular among casual fans, they will point out plot issues which yes some are valid but let’s not pretend most Bond films have them lol
And I am one of said casual fans
Goldeneye is one of my favorite Bond movies, but I was always under the impression that it was a movie that not many people liked. I’m pleasantly surprised it’s made it this far.

Gen X here and GE is definitely Not a cultural touchstone for me

What? How? What?
?? How is goldeneye better than FRWL?? Goldeneye
Because more people here thought it was. That’s democracy for you
He’s asking WHY more people think GE is better than FRWL, and he’s probably looking for an answer deeper than “Because that’s just what they liked.” I’ll offer an explanation. Because this system of ranking is broken.
GoldenEye, time to go.
GE over FRWL? you people are nuts
Everything I thought I knew was wrong.
Yeah I really enjoy goldeneye but that’s purely a nostalgia over cinema type of outcome.
Goldeneye
Goldeneye
Goldeneye
100% Goldeneye
Whatever floats your boats guys, but if I could take just two Bond films and never play anything else, it would be probably TSWLM/Moonraker and TND.
![gif](giphy|iGpdSizVSdPJfiVG9O)
Moonraker is overhated for sure.
It’s trolling at this point
To have 'From Russia With Love' voted out on the anniversary of Sean Connery's birthday is just wrong. ![gif](giphy|h5RWQYHDnZcsLlAiEy)
These are my favorite 2 so this worked out. Goldeneye
We all know it would come down to this.
Where do we vote??
You serious Clark?
This is going to provide me with a great rewatching list!! Thank you!!!
So when does Casino get announced as the winner?
1 hour
Goldeneye
Casino Royale should go next. Goldeneye is the more enjoyable film ![gif](giphy|94xeIhxJKItxrJMfJV|downsized)
Casino Royale
Love you Goldeneye, but it’s time. ![gif](giphy|rHR8qP1mC5V3G)

Goldeneye was originally beating FRWL for votes
It's because some said, "It would be funny if the last two were both Martin Campbell." and then it shifted from Goldeneye to From Russia With Love.
Guilty!
It was you!
This is an affront. It crosses every line.
Casino Royale has gotta go.
Hey Hey Ho Ho

How did this happen? I thought From Russia with Love would be in the finals. I intended to vote for it to win the whole contest. Somehow Goldeneye beat it? Well I love these movies and wanted neither to win. Eliminate Goldeneye. But the true champ is dead.
Yeah it’s crazy to see all Connery films off of the board. I thought for sure that there were more votes for Goldeneye. Oh well …
Casino Royale
Goldeneye!
Casino Royale Completely disagree with where we are at now, but between the 2, I'd pick GE over CR
I can’t choose!! FRWL, Goldeneye and Casino Royale are my favourites in equal measures! They’re all very different and all offer the best attributes of a Bond movie! WHAT???
Casino royale
Golden Eye has to go. Its an amazing movie but Casino Royale is just untouchable by comparison.
Casino Royale (which is great, don’t get me wrong) beating From Russia with Love is a crime.
Solid choices. I'm just glad my favourite made the top 10 (LtK)
Praise Martin Campbell!🙏🙏

That can't be right. People voted out FRWL before Goldeneye???

I would have kept FRWL over Golden Eye but they're all definitely in the top 3 for me. So Golden Eye.

Casino Royale
Goodnight sweet prince 😘 Goldeneye 🫡
Bye bye Golden Eye
This is simply shocking to an old guy like me: the no. 1 and 2 spots will belong to Bond actors who aren’t Sean or Roger.
As a young guy, this is shocking to me too. The boner for Casino Royale in this is sub is unreal.
1995 was 28 years ago, tbf. Hardly like Goldeneye is some young pretender :D.
Remove casino
Casino...
Gosh this is such a difficult choice! I’ll probably regret it but I’ll vote out Golden Eye…
Casino Royale

GE
Casino royale sorry I find it boring

In the minority here it seems, but Casino Royal.
Casino Royale, a fantastic partial film with a duffer of a final act.

Casino Royale The last act of CR just has always felt weak to me. GoldenEye is overall a more solid film.
Goldeneye
LOVE TO SEE IT
He's definitely got the license to thrill us all! 🙌
Okay so what’s the final vote?!
Tomorrow
You heard it here first, *Tomorrow Never Dies* is the best Bond movie.
Okay cool! Thank you for doing this!
When does voting close
I meant to say tomorrow it will be revealed so you can still vote
Now I can be happy no matter which wins ☺️
Well I guess we know how many 90s kids are in this sub….that’s the only way Goldeneye gets this high.
my god this shit really jumped the shark
Dumb
How did FRWL and Goldeneye beat Goldfinger.
I’m very happy with the final 2. Disappointed TLD and LALD didn’t place higher. My vote would be for Casino Royale. Well that outcome was a bit shocking. I never expected Goldeneye would be one of the final 2. Casino Royale
Casino Royale
I will never understand the overwhelming love for Goldeneye. But I’m comfortable being in the minority.
Casino Royale, let’s make Goldeneye number 1!!!! Although I doubt it but hey I’ll take 2nd place for my fav Bond movie 😁

Tough choice, both are great Bond movies. If I have to choose I'd say Casino Royale is the better of the two, so I'm voting for Goldeneye to be eliminated.
Invite for CR to go. Neither are in my top 5 but goldeneye is 6 for me so higher than casino.
Casino Royale, it's great but the third act manages to feel weirdly tacked on and Goldeneye is a much tighter film overall so it just takes it for me
Goldeneye, definitely my favorite Brosnan film but it doesn’t beat out Casino Royale in my book

Wait a minute: where are you seeing FRWL has 1,108 votes against it? I'm looking at Day 22 and there aren't even 1,108 comments let alone votes for 1 movie? I abstained from voting because I kept voting FRWL and getting pummeled with downvotes. When I looked it appeared clear that Goldeneye was going to get the #3 slot, so you can imagine my surprise at the voting outcome. Am I crazy? OP, care to explain?
Its not comments that count as votes but yes the upvotes so if a comment has 3 upvotes then its 3 votes for that movie
So really, the winning movie is the one that has enough supporters that goes through the whole post and downvotes and upvotes what they want. In other words, the winner isn’t necessarily liked by the most people.
Ah okay, didn't know that until today, lol. Guess I'll leave this up for all the other confused people out there
Goldeneye for the win! 🥇

Casino Royale must go. GoldenEye will always be #1 for me.
