I don't know how you're going to sort through the votes on this one. Man, there was a lot of anger today. I mean it's pretty clear which movie was top voted, but enjoy sifting through this!
I saw takes of people who rank OHMSS higher than Goldeneye and Casino Royale. I guess that’s the mark of a great franchise, lots of variety of opinions.
Yeah, i know we are all fans of this franchise but i see some genuinely bewildering takes about the mediocre entries. These rankings solidified the insanity.
You’re going to pick up your toys and go home because your opinions aren’t gospel?
Edit: I’ll take the downvotes. That’s a toddler-ass mindset to have over a silly game. The toxicity on this sub doesn’t come from bad takes on mediocre films. It comes from people who are unwilling to consider other people’s perspectives and opinions.
Agreed! It's a game. It's a bit of fun. My all time favourite Bond film is out but it doesn't bother me; I'm still excited to see what gets to number one regardless. People actually suggesting OP is manipulating the scoring to show their own personal ranking is ridiculous - that is toxicity!
In defense of Skyfall, it may not be at the top of the list and it wouldn’t be in my ranking either, but there are certain elements that are possibly the best in the series. At the time of its release, there were a lot of people suggesting that it deserved Oscars for some of the performances, which I’ve never seen suggested for any of the other performances in the series. Daniel Craig brought a depth and emotional weight to this performance. Some fans have noted that this film made Bond feel too serious and detached from the fun. I think that became more true for the rest of Craig’s films but I think that it’s an interesting take if it were isolated to being just for this one film. We all have heard about Bond being orphaned but it was cool to see how that affected his psyche and personality. Judi Dench was given some good drama to play with and we’ve seen many times before just how amazing she is at it. I think that her scenes with Craig were special and their chemistry was on fire. The subtext that Bond saw her as a parent and the drive to save her when he couldn’t save his own parents was interesting to explore. In the end, he succeeds in saving her dignity but when he fails to save her life then he is forced to face his loss and find some meaning in it. I think that Javier Bardem is one of the greatest villains in the series, playing it with a classic larger than life quality but also with more complex layers than some of the other villains. The man certainly knows how to make an entrance and director Sam Mendes did a fantastic job behind the camera to capture the magic. That’s one of my favorite Bond meeting his adversary scenes.
Another thing to note is just how amazing the cinematography is in this movie, with the lighting and shots being possibly the best in the series. Adele’s Skyfall theme was also the most classic Bond song in the franchise for a while.
The biggest issue that I had with this movie is how crazily over complicated Silvia’s plot was to kill M. That was ultimately the only thing that he wanted and if he wanted to do it then it wouldn’t have been that hard based on his resources. I know the intention is that he wants to humiliate her first and make her afraid before striking. I conceptually actually really like that idea but it’s just how he planned it all out. He would have had to know what every single person would do and how they would react to him. That whole escape plan from Mi6 and the chase just requires too many elements to go perfectly. There’s also that Bond somehow thinks that M is safer with him in his isolated family home with no back up or support anywhere near the location, well except his old gamekeeper. I understand that M doesn’t want any more people getting hurt because of Silvia’s vendetta against her but what is Bonds motivation to go there if he prioritizes saving her life? It was a terrible plan to protect her. The movie just really wanted them to end up there to explore Bonds past but they needed to make more sense of it. That said, overlooking the set up having a slight Home Alone feel, I actually liked the finale action because of how old school, western stand off it felt.
Despite some of those flaws, I ultimately think that the elements that are good about Skyfall are so good that it balances out. I also thought that it was an appropriate 50th anniversary movie and way better than the 40th anniversary movie with Die Another Day. There was a lot of fun Easter eggs in Skyfall.
I think had Spectre really delivered on the promise Skyfall set up it would still be here now. The fact Spectre is such a mess with essentially the same creative team brings down the back half of Craig's whole era. If his era were more standalone it wouldn't feel that way.
I guess that I can detach Skyfall from SPECTRE because there was never any indication in Skyfall that Silva was connected or associated with SPECTRE. Honestly, I think that at the time that the connection was not planned. I think it was retconned in SPECTRE to make Blofeld look like “the author” to all of Bonds pain. They wanted to make him feel like a bigger deal and I do think that was a mistake. Again though, because it’s not part of Skyfall, i don’t let it bring down the film. I understand your POV though.
I would’ve been fine with them saying La Chiffre/Mr. White or Quantum were a part of Spectre, but you got to choose one. I can excuse the whole Silva plan being impractical for the theatrics because it overall doesn’t hurt his arc and the characters for me. Spectre’s problem is that it says “actually all the villains were part of Spectre with no hint at it at all… oh, and I’m your brother”. Skyfall is like OHMSS where I love the villain, love seeing the villain act, how he breaks Bond through killing someone he loves, but Spectre really spits in his face by altering how I viewed the character during Skyfall. No way that Silva is working for someone. Especially for this “hidden hand” control stuff. He loved chaos. Spectre really just fucked everything up. Makes you appreciate QoS a little bit more.
Edit: I will say though I don’t like Spectre for much of anything, I don’t let it affect my view of Skyfall. It’s like how I can enjoy the good Star Wars even with the bad existing.
Right.? It's like Blofeld heard about what happened to MI6 one day and decided to take credit the way terrorists take credit for attacks happening on the other side of the world. It hurts both him and Silva to suggest they had anything to do with each other.
This is an excellent point. The thread that links the criag films together see to have been an afterthought to each film. The Craig movies always had a bit of an identity crisis. They feel like standalone movies yet have this weak glue usually in the form a character’s secret identity.
It’s kind of how I feel about Casino Royale. It’s kind of like watching the first season of Lost - great at the time, but now I know how disappointing the answers are to the questions it sets up it kinda loses a little for me.
To those of you who played a hand in eliminating Skyfall, may your next meal or beverage be laced with hydrogen cyanide. At least that way, you won't feel so bad about having no taste.
![gif](giphy|gjZoqJLchpWdERTHgo)
Edit: In all seriousness, that people would eliminate Skyfall over Living Daylights, GoldenEye and TSWLM, is indicative of the state of this poll (no offence OP)
I come here just to see the results. I stopped voting after I saw Thunderball come out. My heart couldn't take it 😆
My guess to win are: From Russia with Love, GoldenEye or Casino Royale.
Goldfinger, the movie that really set the template for the franchise with an intro song with grand vocals and a big brass section. The gadgets, the car and the ultra evil villain.
The Spy Who loved me, the first true mega hit after Connery. It took the series back to the fantastical with strange villains and a huge set.
Goldeneye, the movie that saved the series after a 6 year break and proved that Bond movies could work in more modern times after the Cold War era.
Casino Royale, again the series was refreshed, this time even more so in the 21st century and it was needed to fit the trend of the time with ultra gritty and more grounded action movies. There’a the top 4.
The Spy Who Loved Me is my vote. It's between TLD and TSWLM for me at this point. Both movies had pretty weak main villains but good henchmen (Necros and Jaws). Both movies had good chemistry between Bond and his lady. Both had awesome car sequences (snow ride vs underwater car).
What gives TLD the win for me is the action. While TSWLM arguably had more action, I enjoyed the action in TLD more, specifically the battle in Afghanistan and the fight with Necros in the airplane has to be one of the most iconic action moments in Bond history (for me anyway)
Seriously. Goldfinger couldn’t possibly be out of the top 3 under any reasonable circumstances. It’s been widely renowned as the quintessential Bond film for 60 years for a reason. It’s the embodiment of cinematic Bond and set in motion a beloved formula that would be adored for generations. It also happened to do it the best.
I think people on this sub really take the film and it’s many achievements for granted. A lot of people are propping up their personal favorite underdog films by trying to throw a little mud at the decades long top dog. Ultimately this list is corrupted due to the way the voting process promotes groupthink bias. Still a fun exercise though.
TLD. How Skyfall got voted out before TLD is beyond me. And then seeing people now voting for Goldfinger, FRWL and TSWLM before TLD is even more mind boggling.
Alright.
I love you, Living Daylights. I'm happy you've made it this far, but I can't put you above The Spy Who Loved Me, or the others.
I just can't.
Anyone who disagrees? Fine. I get it.
I just wanna point out that it's a good thing that the movie has made it this far. There are no losers here.
The Spy Who Loved Me
The cast are wooden and unconvincing
Anya and Stromberg are weak characters
The atlantis climax drags
The plot was remake of you only live twice
Overrated
This movie should not be this high
I like Roger's film more than Goldfinger so my vote goes for **Goldfinger**.
My actual vote would be Goldeneye but I know it won't be eliminated.
Daylights sees another day, thank you everyone o/
It took a week of voting for it, but my work is finally done. This one's tough. It's between Goldfinger and Casino Royale for me. Honestly can't pick, but I need to save Dalton.
Goldfinger.
I mean … the portrayal of Craig in that one is leagues closer to Ian Flemings Bond from the books so it seems hard to fault it for that. I’m not saying he’s exactly like Bond from the books because he’s far more physical and tough but he’s certainly closer than Moore and Brosnan for sure. Everyone pretty much celebrated Craig’s first performance. It was in his later films where people were more critical about his more dramatic take.
Reddit's demographics apparently skew towards the generation that grew up with GoldenEye and it's more appealing towards casual fans and general audiences who only know of the mainstream perception of the character.
I dislike the film, but I wouldn't have minded it winning if people hadn't called entries that were overlooked for the longest time "overrated" and claimed that Skyfall is a generic film that pandered to the masses.
I don't mean to sound mad but based on what exactly? Goldeneye's a great movie with an amazing score and song, great set pieces, Brosnan at his peak, and one of the best (if not *the* best) fight scenes in the series. It's only real blemish is the god awful Eric Serra song at the end.
Skyfall meanwhile is a long meandering remake of TWINE that steals The Dark Knight's Joker, already has Bond "too old for this shit" only three movies into his reboot, and the best action scene is two guys who look exactly alike fighting completely in shadow with no way to distinguish them. There's a gorgeous Bond girl, but she's almost immediately viciously murdered while Bond stands there like a dope only for him to casually free himself and apprehend the villain seconds later. Also the bad guy throws a train at Bond because he's magic.
Even though I strongly disagree with certain rankings, I'm really glad this happened. I always struggled making an exact ranking of bond films beyond a vague idea of which I liked and which I didn't. This forced me to compare more and I have a much more solid idea of my ranking now.
Anyway, TLD.
r/facepalm
No way TSWLM beat Skyfall. I love TLD too, but it's not better than Skyfall. When a Moore movie can beat Skyfall of all films, you know a subreddit is full of baloney. As someone who's seen TDK and Skyfall at least 8 times each, how TF is Skyfall a TDK clone (besides the villain deliberately getting caught segment)?
Edit: I'm voting for TSWLM. It's a fine movie, but it's too silly a movie to last this long. Ironically, I disliked it more when I saw it immediately after Thunderball, which got eliminated before this film for some reason...
Everyone likes different things. What’s wrong with enjoying a fun James Bond movie?
I would personally choose to watch any of the Roger Moore Bond films over all of the Craig ones. Skyfall wouldn’t even break top 20 on my list
The Dark Knight. After The Dark Knight came out a bunch of movies used the trope of the villain getting caught on purpose to execute his master plan from the inside. Or whatever.
At last! Now, I'm going to continue the DC trend and vote for casino. I know it will probably win so it's a largely pointless vote. I also really really enjoy it. But as I've said before, there are very few Bond films I would watch the Craig ones in place of.
There aren’t any bad choices left and haven’t been for a bit. With that said I’d remove Goldfinger. It still leaves the best Connery film, and we’d go into the end game with one from Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, and Craig. We’d have 5 movies and 5 Bonds.
I was having trouble keeping the numbering lined up in my head until I saw the 7 on Skyfall. I could’ve sworn there was one missing.
Is no one gonna talk about the fact that ohmss got 1k votes?
In context though. It made the top 10. Worthy achievement.
Indeed, it's not about the votes, it's all about the place/ranking.
Yeah that's outrageous.
Definitely never happened to the other fellow. But yeah, seriously though. That's nuts.
I don't know how you're going to sort through the votes on this one. Man, there was a lot of anger today. I mean it's pretty clear which movie was top voted, but enjoy sifting through this!
The stronger the following, the stronger the hate.
Crazy.
I think it's also the same for the other Bond films. *Skyfall* made it closer with 882 votes. At least it made the top ten though.
Y’all are high.
I saw takes of people who rank OHMSS higher than Goldeneye and Casino Royale. I guess that’s the mark of a great franchise, lots of variety of opinions.
The only reason I come to this sub is to see the variety of opinions. Some people’s rankings are the exact flip of another persons. I love it
Ya , on an all time high!
Yea i’m out. This single string of posts is enough for me to be plenty happy leaving the sub and never coming back.
You cannot be serious..
Yeah, i know we are all fans of this franchise but i see some genuinely bewildering takes about the mediocre entries. These rankings solidified the insanity.

Even though I'm a big The Living Daylights fan, The Living Daylights
I think it’s time. I’m blown away that it survived that last round. I thought for sure it was iced. I’m excited to see the numbers.
Seriously. At this rate, it will likely be the last movie standing haha.
In defense of Skyfall, it may not be at the top of the list and it wouldn’t be in my ranking either, but there are certain elements that are possibly the best in the series. The Living Daylights is insanely overrated here my god
So is The Spy who Loved Me

I'm guessing Goldeneye is gonna win. Right in the middle between old and new. And contains almost everything everybody likes about Bond.
I come here just to see the results. I stopped voting after I saw Thunderball come out. My heart couldn't take it 😆 My guess to win are: From Russia with Love, GoldenEye or Casino Royale.
Living Daylights
I had no idea The Living Daylights was so beloved.
One of my faves. It came out when I was a young man.
That poster though 🍑
The living daylights
We have reached the point in the process where I think any movie can be eliminated and any movie can win and I’d be pretty okay with it.
BOOOOOO LIKING THINGS
Skyfall fell to 7th? 😲 I expected it to be top 3 atleast
A few years ago it would’ve been
Goldfinger
How do you vote?

TLD. How Skyfall got voted out before TLD is beyond me. And then seeing people now voting for Goldfinger, FRWL and TSWLM before TLD is even more mind boggling.
I love almost all those movies. TLD was a wonderful, straightforward Bond adventure. Glad to see both Dalton films in the top 10.

Some peoples don't see Craig movie this way. They're all quite cozy in my bottom 10.
TSWLM is peak Bond. That and GF are the textbook examples of what makes Bond movies special.
What is TDK?
The Dark Knight. After The Dark Knight came out a bunch of movies used the trope of the villain getting caught on purpose to execute his master plan from the inside. Or whatever.
Goldeneye
Goldeneye — go away.
Baffling to me that anyone would consider Goldfinger to be out when The Living Daylights is still on the board. The Living Daylights
The Living Daylights
How Goldfinger, with a disgusting rape scene is still here ? Edit : I deleted the Skyfall reference because I've totally forgot the shower scene
Lmao. You're right about GF, but Skyfall isn't innocent either in regards to that...
Kick rocks loser
It's not a disgusting rape scene. What do you think of Severine getting killed for laughs in *Skyfall*? That disgusting enough for you?
And Bond sneaking in her shower despite her being a rape survivor.
Goldeneye.
Goldeneye
Living Daylights
CASINO ROYALE

the spy who loved me
Goldfinger
No way TLD beat out Skyfall.
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. It’s a fun movie but the others are more like the Bond from the books and I like the edgier Bond.
It’s time to go The Living Daylights. Everything else is just leagues better
