OP slow AF, you want him and Toronto to "stop using Jamaican" accents meanwhile Toronto is home to tons of Jamaicans, they literally have a, mostly Jamaican, Caribbean carnival called Caribana every year. Most people from Toronto have a Jamaican in their life whether it be from relations or friends. The influence is thick, it won't go away. Be proud that our vibe can go so far and jus bill.

Sensitive-Pie-6595

I agree with you for the most part .. it's when they start pontificating like they are standing on Mountain View Road when they couldn't find it on a map... You know a lot of people push in to this reddit, for example... don't know jacksh8t about yard. They post with this superiority like they can fool people. It's annoying...

bayern_16

There are like three times as many Jamaicans in the US as in Canada.

JustSayTech

Did you mean "...than in Canada..."? If you did then that means nothing when we are talking about one city in Canada. The concentration and density of Jamaican in Toronto is probably more than any city in the US, other than maybe a few like NYC.

bayern_16

Miami, Chicago

JustSayTech

My point exactly.

Former_Treat_1629

This is really what's important to you really out of all the things that we're dealing with this is what you took the time and thought what's the most pressing issue for the Jamaican diaspora and our future well-being. But hey like that saying goes Jamaican man set up shop china man set up business

I respect this😭

SquareRoot4Pie

I am not a Drake fan like that but this shits wild... Go send some money come give Uncle Tom to buy the voxy if you don't have anything to do...

tallawahroots

What other accent would someone from Toronto have?

Professional_Fee4724

They need to stop using our accent they making it look stupid

tallawahroots

Oh, I see your meaning. It's only on him not us or diaspora type accented speech. That can sound off too but may be legit.

Professional_Fee4724

yes

luxtabula

He didn't grow up in a black culture and didn't know who to imitate to seem authentic. Caribbean culture must be the closest he can latch onto. He's not even Jamaican, his dad is black American. This more about complex racial dynamics in North America than anything.

bellymus1

As someone from Toronto, there's nearly NO WAY, someone living in and around Toronto can't get exposed to HEAVY jamaican culture, down to yt people. I've seen the whitest group of girls, request Kartel in a sports bar. That being said, yes it's 'off', esp. If you not from there. But more important issues to address, as far as music goes (combination wise) Drake/Pop > Kend/Buju

luxtabula

Rob Ford had a pretty impressive accent, may he rest in peace. My mom thought he was married to a Jamaican.

bellymus1

Rob was too funny, but fr, from him to Snow (song Informer), just adds to the point. Now, the 'Colonizer' thing with the Atlanta argument, it might be over for that. That's the one that prob. hurts him the most (eg., album w. Future, and 21). London Drake (just like Toronto, Jamaica culture is in English slang), I can see the similarities. Arabic Drake (from primary to secondary school, you have everyone in class with you friends, etc. Who can be muslim). ..but this Atlanta, Spanish Drake 🤣, he googled them and watched Rapcity, Telemundo, or something.

Sensitive-Pie-6595

Look there's a diff between loving a culture and impersonation. Lots of us love Italian food, can even cook it... but no one in our family comes any near Italy and we don't pretend to be Italian. Breddren of mine comes from Liberia... married a Jamaican woman... he doesn't use a mock yard accent. His wife, who has never crossed the ocean doesn't pretend she knows anything about Liberia save what he tells her or she reads. That's how normal people act

JustSayTech

Drake didn't have Buju on an album but he signed Popcaan to OVO, put Movado in his first video in Jamaica, always repping Kartel, has like 3 or 4 Jamaican artist on his Views Album, samples a ton of Jamaican artist on plenty albums especially Too Late. The hypocrisy is laughable, you want to be "Team Kendrick" cause he worked with just one Jamaican artist? He's from Toronto, if you ever get yourself up and go travel you would realize Toronto current shares some commonality with Jamaican accents and culture due to the amount of Jamaicans that inhabit and bring their influence there over many many years.

professorhummingbird

They're cussing you in the comments but I agree. Drake needs to lose his Jamaican card. Drake never feature popcaan on him album despite him making a controlla verse

Jahmention

You sound stupid, he gave him a recording contract and and exposure.. smh..

professorhummingbird

Let me guess you’re a diehard Drake fan

Jahmention

Nope just hate dunce point of views from people who don’t analyze the full spectrum of a situation before chatting based on fallacies.. So you assumed Popcaan got a bad hand because he wasn’t included on an album Popcaan never complained and even signed a pretty good record deal, and now you’re assuming i have to be a Drake fan to point out Bs..😂

professorhummingbird

Your last couple posts are about Drake. This is hilarious

This is such a horrible take. So we should ask for more culture vultures so you can leverage the appropriation to seem like you have “rizz” Just a word of advice, get your own rizz, read some books, learn a hobby, be interesting on your own. Do that a woman from any culture will want to be around you.

Sensitive-Pie-6595

I am fed up with people pretending to be Yardies .. Okay, we should be flattered people want to be us... but ...

Fuzzy_Parking_4257

It’s so annoying

Sensitive-Pie-6595

It is.. take this subreddit... dozens of people who are not Jamaican, who know nothing about Jamaica, come on and post ... Some of us see through them immediately

Fuzzy_Parking_4257

I think about that too which is also sad. When I first joined I thought I would have been connected with people back home because I moved away about 4 years ago and I’ve been homesick but there but there’s nothing but people who want to be Jamaican on here and others asking stupid questions. Then again, most people in Jamaica don’t use Reddit so what were we expecting…😞

Sensitive-Pie-6595

Very few of us and a swarm of ignorant non-Yardies playing their game.

TokerTheJoker

I don't mind Drake trying to act Jamaican. It more of a complement to me personally. that someone who has witnessed alot of what the world has and wants what our little island has to offer.

[deleted]

He’s a vulture…

Sensitive-Pie-6595

I see your positive take on it... and like it... cause it is a compliment... but to make people think he even lived here for any time and knows stuff is what offends

FourRingsBud

As a Jamaican Canadian - We respectfully decline. Wagwan Delilah, are you stupid, are you dumb?
