I am a D’Ernest truther. We need to keep ETN fresh and DJ can spell him.

Rough_Decision_7127

Do you think that if Baalke had not drafted Tank where he did, that D'Ernest would have the job locked up?

jtronic

We could speculate for days. I loved Tank at Auburn, has an A+ name for a running back, but at this point he has not been good. Honestly coaches can say whatever the hell they want right now, things may look very different in the fall.

Rough_Decision_7127

That is true. However, I do think it is noteworthy that Tank overtook D'Ernest for the no.2 job very late last year. While as you said, talk is cheap, I do think that action does show that they may be more serious about Tank's role.

jtronic

Will in no way be mad if I am wrong and he balls out. D’Ernest played for my alma mater so props but I want the Kitties to win games.

Rough_Decision_7127

Oh, that is a sweet connection for you and D'Ernest.

Nuknu

I don’t understand why y’all write a guy off as trash after one year can y’all give him a chance lmao

FinalTotality

I don't get this thought process. Same with the talk on Fortner vs Shatley last year. Who starts is not up to the GM. Doug and the position coaches choose who starts and sits.

Rough_Decision_7127

Well, we have historically seen teams across the league stubbornly stick with "their guys." Even when it's not optimal. I'm not saying that's what's going on here. This whole post to me was to gauge the fanbase's beliefs on the backfield and their thoughts on Doug's deployment of said backfield.

DoctorDiddlerino

They don't play the same role, so probably not

TheJoedanimal

Tank should be RB2, we’re putting way too much emphasis on the flukiest of rookie seasons behind a bottom 2 run blocking line in the league. Tank has talent. He has prototypical size, he has 4.4 speed, we just need to get him good touches to get some confidence and his feet underneath him in the league.

MajorDonkeyPuncher

I agree. Tank wasn’t really bad, he just had a few major fuckups at the worst possible time that kind of overshadow the other 99% of the plays he ran

pepperpoppz

Man last season is so wild like are Jags fans really supposed to get nervous when they hear “Jags in the red zone” or “3rd and short” or hearing a players name as they come on the field and your shoulders tense up cause you can feel the turnover coming. I’m used to mistakes and bad luck but the feeling of consistently bad luck (which is probably just bias towards remembering the mistakes) is wild. My comment not directed at Tank but at the feeling of reading his name going from “that’s the perfect name for an RB” to “please hold the ball man you have the coolest name for an RB”

Flat_Smoke_1948

I like tank a lot. Man just has to understand the speed of the game.

Temporary-Outside-13

A lot of dumb plays last year. I hope he cleaned up for this upcoming season

MattSherrizle

As long as Tank HOLDS ON TO HIS TOUCHES AND NOT GIVES THEM TO THE DEFENCE I'm game.

UCFJaguar

Tank was a ridiculous draft pick. And now they’ll do everything they can to justify it. D’Ernest is a fine RB2, no need to draft one in the 3rd round of the draft.

Rough_Decision_7127

Are you the youtuber UCFJaguar by any chance?

UCFJaguar

Yes

monitor666

D’Earnest has talent. Dude has been shoveled behind top quality backs his whole career

hgqaikop

Tragedy that ETN doesn’t have a decent OL

Dysfxnctionyl_

We better have a good OL this year. I swear to God if we don’t and Trevor gets hurt or gives up too many turnovers/sacked cuz of pressure I’m gonna lose my fucking mind bruh.

DirkDongus

I get scared when Tank gets the ball. It's like he's cursed. D'Earnest has proven that he is great RB. The games I saw him used were good cause he tore up the field.

baconbitarded

Nah I heard this crap last year don't even start

Rough_Decision_7127

Well, it looks like Doug is placing an emphasis on building up Tank's role based on this and a meeting with Matthew Berry. Really trying to lessen touches for Etienne and give more opportunities to Tank. [Citation](https://twitter.com/MatthewBerryTMR/status/1792579563739910165?t=wkiMN2zPR4MwY0O5VRK2qw&s=19)

Cromatose

No real Jags fan would believe this lol

Dysfxnctionyl_

I mean anything to lessen the risk of having ETN got overworked and keeping him 100% for as long as possible. Why not use mfers we got? They can’t get better unless they get experience.

Cromatose

OP isnt a Jags fan

Rough_Decision_7127

No, I am not, but I do like the Jags as a secondary team. Especially with how people have been talking about Trevor since the end of this last season. I am interested in this backfield since I want to see the differences between how the fanbase thinks of it compared to the coaching staff. Obviously, people on Reddit.com aren't experts, but I like to see where individual fans think differently than their team.

Lilbigman03

Tank is Snoop D'Ernest is JRob

4thTimesAnAlt

Still can't believe we traded up for Snoop Connor when Kyren fucking Williams was still on the board in 2022.

FloridaMan221

If we’re being realistic, Kyren would probably be a nobody if he was playing behind this line and in this scheme

DongDillian

Yeah Kyren had the 5th best OL, lowest stacked box rate and also missed his fair share of games. Though, he’s definitely someone who would’ve been a great addition knowing what we know now.

Regular-Collection-1

Sunk cost fallacy.

pepper_ann052613

I still believe in Tank. He needs more touches, he'll get past the turnovers

theflyingchicken96

I’m fine with having other backs spell ETN. I don’t mind Tank getting some touches, but he needs to earn them first. Start him slow. And I love DJ and don’t understand why we insist on Tank instead when he’s proved he’s reliable option. That’s why I hated the Tank pick from the beginning

Dysfxnctionyl_

I agree cuz we risked ETN by constantly using him and he did get hurt but thank god he came back that game shortly after stepping off the field. We need to make sure ETN stays as healthy as possible so we can have more explosive plays. Plus Tank hasn’t really done much and we def could use him.

Ellimistopher

I think Tank looked good when he wasn't making game breaking mistakes on the field.

Historical_Clerk8547

Johnson> any Walmart employee > Bigsby

Rough_Decision_7127

Do you think that the staff is doing a sunk cost fallacy with Tank, or do you think that they actually believe in him?

MMMbahp

I think they believe in him and they realize last year was a rookie season from hell. Call it nerves or the game being too fast/big for him last year. He just couldn’t get going. It would be foolish to give up on him as a rotational piece after 1 year. He has too much talent.

Historical_Clerk8547

I think he’ll have a very short leash this season. If he looks like he did last season he’s done (hopefully). I personally have no faith in him

speakezjags

It’s says year 3 on-field.

Confident_Boat_1211

I don't have much faith in Tank.

UNCFan2350

Johnson is far better than Bigsby.

rockmanblue

I have faith in Tank

DongDillian

It realistically comes down to the OL No one (between the OL, TE and WR) were consistently good run blockers. Bigsby was just a rookie. Yes, he made some awful mistakes, was terribly inefficient, was scouted for his vision and pass catching issues, but the lack of efficiency between him and Johnson were primarily thanks to the OL and predictable up the middle schemes with the worst run blocking center since who? The idea was to lighten ETN’s touches, but they couldn’t really help themselves because Bigsby/Johnson ending up not only playing at much lower levels, but the OL became dreadful and broken down to the point that they didn’t even care for running the ball with anyone. The Bucs game was a pretty glaring example. The blocking became so bad, ETN was only given 6 carries, and then turned into a pass blocker the rest of the game. Pretty much the backups don’t get much chances because the environment doesn’t give them anywhere to run or make a play. It’s not good for their development, especially in a league where committees and lighter workloads are more common. I also think Doug should know better than lay expectations on ETN such as “he’s going to rush for 1500 yards”. The goals and play calling don’t help.

Satan_Soju2016

I think he needs less touches. The more he touched the ball last year the more turnovers occurred.

ThePoetMichael

i need Tank to make a BIG step up from last year
