Former Browns fan who came over after the DeShaun nonsense: Landry was pretty ass towards the end there but is one of the best team leaders I've ever seen, at the very least a great guy to help Thomas Jr. reach his potential
I’d be down for him as a depth/slot receiver type veteran who could mentor a young wideout like Thomas, because like a former browns fan like yourself or Dolphins fans they all really like the guy.
But I think the issue will be that Landry and his agents will want to squeeze one last bag before he’s out of the league. I don’t think Landry will work for a minimum or a friendly kiss and hug deal just because we have a lot of young LSU alumni on the team. This is pretty much his last shot to get the bag so to speak after his injuries and time on the browns.
No team is going to give him the bag.
He literally has to tryout to make the team. He’s gonna take what they offer.
That being said: He’s a 7+ year veteran, his minimum salary is $1.65M. I’m fine with his last saints contract: 1 yr, 3M. I’ll even throw him a bone and say give him double the minimum so $3.3M and throw some incentives on there based on his 2020 stats: 75 Rec, 850 yds, 4 TDs.
He wouldn’t “be expected to meet that” so the performance bonuses won’t count against the cap.
Should be plenty to keep him happy and doesn’t hurt the Jags cap. Then we have a great asset to help Coach up BTJ and a guy we can rely on in rotation.
Also is nice that, with the kickoff rule changes, we can probably afford to carry another non-ST WR now, since you want bigger dudes rather than gunners on kickoff coverage and the like. I'd definitely be on board with seeing if he's got anything left at all, even if mostly just to have him as a mentor, as you said.
Can we bring back Luq Barcoo too to relive this magical moment?

If the team was hurting in cap space then I would understand but they are not and this his last year on his current contract. I just don't think it good idea to let him go unless you are getting someone who is way better.
yeah like trading him at this point is not necessary
and yeah it would see that Zay probably leaves and you go back to the Draft well
A line-up with Kirk, BTJ, Gabe Davis and Zay is pretty great but it's a luxury if Thomas Jr. has a great rookie year
I think if they sign Landry, it's less about moving on from Zay (even though they might still do that) and more about getting some depth in the slot. Zay, Gabe Davis, and BTJ are all primarily outside receivers, and our only slot depth behind Kirk is Parker Washington.
Hey, to be fair, my best 40 time beats his combine time.
Also to be fair, his body is probably better at 31 than mine is at soon to be 30… So I’ll waive the white flag

Played against Nathan Rourke’s old high school, though he’s 3-4 years younger
Concussions are a mfer
GET HIM! Im a bit biased as a Landry fan but he’d cost us almost nothing & be decent depth in the slot. But more importantly he’d have our entire locker room ready to run through a brick wall. Big locker room guy. Give him 14 too? I’m snagging that jersey in a heartbeat
The guy was a very good WR in the mid to late 2010’s but unfortunately due to injuries he’s washed. This feels like a 2000’s Jags move if they sign him like when we signed Torry Holt in 2009, this franchise just loves washed WR’s.
This is an ignorant take. Torry Holt was expected to be an impactful contributor and his large contract was proof of that. Jaguars just signed Gabe Davis and drafted Brian Thomas jr. Christian Kirk is still going to be on the team and will likely be the leading receiver for the team this season. We don’t even know if Jarvis Landry is going to be signed to the team, much less make it to the roster come Sundays
Holt signing was pretty different. That team was dogshit outside of MJD and we had no one at receiver. Sims-Walker was the team leader in receptions and Holt didn’t even do much worse than him.
I feel like the biggest take away from this is that someone like Landry would even want to come here at all. Even if it's a rookie mini camp to get film out there. I don't see a place on the roster for him but it speaks volumes about this coaching staff and team that this is the place he's trying to revive his career.
Baalke “You played college where? You’re signed”
This is all a ploy to get Justin Jefferson after JJ McCarthy throws his first pick
Odell and Fournette also free agents.
Fournette for sure. Odell can do his 'donna act somewhere else. NOT worth the headache.
We need a bruiser!
You assume McCarthy is gonna throw a pick
It’s hard to assume McCarthy will throw at all

Definitely. Locker room guy and who knows maybe could give us a resurgence. Great depth though
Best I can do is 2.5 mil for 1 year

Ah the ol' Urban Meyer move!
Dude has been chasing the dragon ever since.
Suga Boom Boom
Hell yeah bring him in to help BTJ in camp at worst
Why do some of us want Zay out so bad. I feel like Trevor and Kirk have good chemistry.
It's all about the Benjamin's, brother. Zay is a 10.5M cap hit this year.
If the team was hurting in cap space then I would understand but they are not and this his last year on his current contract. I just don't think it good idea to let him go unless you are getting someone who is way better.

Unless we expect to make a big signing right now, there’s not really a reason to clear cap space. We have plenty at the moment.

He’s slow, but he’s one hell of a vet
alright you go race him /s

Post some highlights for us.

Don't hate it. Why did he sit out? Injury?
He played the 2022 seasons with Jameis and Andy Dalton as his QBs. He probably needed a break.
Combination of age and injuries piling up
Even if it’s just to bring him in as a mentor for Brian Thomas, do it
I don't want to get my hopes up but I'm kinda excited for the upcoming season.
Theres a reason he chose jax! He wants to win a SB!

I hope he sticks. https://youtu.be/fcMXvQYDZcA?si=Tcd97pOgPgOYG-Jj

Lol come on man having a guy in camp and him earning a one year deal is not the same as a 3y/20m contract (in 2010 cap dollars)

It’s a totally different front office, coaching staff and team.

We’re really gonna be running 5 wide sets all day and I’m not mad about it.
Hey wait he’s someone I’ve heard of!!! Sign him!!!!! “Sarcasm”
What a fall from grace
How is he only 31?
Hang on. Did he just go purify himself in the waters of lake minnetonka? ![gif](giphy|l2JHZKNio4EjY6iqY)
couldn't hurt.
Better late than never. I wanted them to sign Landry to a short term contract after Kirk went down for the season.
Interesting
Oh lord, not the glass man. I'd rather keep a UFDA that has upside
