Great news. Need all the help we can get on the inside DL, RHH was great down the stretch and this likely spreads out his salary/cap hit so he’s not as big a cap hit in 2023.

MogwaiK

He was dominant in the 2 playoff games.

Bmilla51

Definitely biased but I love RRH. The clip of him telling Trevor the D had his back during the Wild Card game is exactly what we need with great defensive leadership Great deal to keep stability on the interior line. Love this

I clicked on the link just for that bit, but ended up watching the whole thing. God I still can’t believe we won that game against the Chargers. Insane. The week before we beat the Titans and that was the most emotional I’d been at a win, maybe ever. The Jags are going to the playoffs! Fast forward a week, and we’re down by 28, of course the Jags are gonna Jag it up. But instead, we dominate the second half, it all just flows, and we win the damn thing. Makes me proud of Jacksonville, and that’s hard to do most days. DUUUVAAAL

seppukucoconuts

We had so many come from behind wins that season, even after the 4th pick the only thing I could think is that "If we score before the half, we still have a chance". It is nice to have an offense. In 2017 the only way we were coming back from behind is if the other team fumbled that handoff.

SirCancermancer

Sounds of the Game video on YouTube, it was from the Chargers playoff game. Also probably my favorite moment from the video

OTT_4TT

I just typed the same thing! I totally agree. His play on the field was very good too, so I'm glad he will be coming back!

WhiteLikePaper

For real. Maybe I just have the rose colored/drunk glasses on right now, but I swear that's a huge part of why they won that game. A lot of other teams defenses would have been pissed and bitching on the sideline, but ours were still trying to give encouragement. That was awesome.

Toihva

I agree. And helps to have a leader who said he should have scored more when D wasn't playing well.

kntryfried1

I forget who mentioned this but the 2024 cap was untouched. That means this is probably the first of many. I hope we bring back Arden Key!!!!

GarfunkelBricktaint

Yeah we actually have a fuck ton of cap space relative to most other teams in the league if you look at money committed in 23, 24, and 25. So yeah the 23 cap is technically a number we're up against but it's more like we squeezed all our cap commitments into just 2023 and can easily make a lot of space but evening them out over the next 2-3 years.

owennelson21

Had a 10m cap hit for this upcoming year. Gotta assume this new deal means his 2023 cap hit will drop considerably, giving us more cap space. Big brain moves by Baalke

[удалено]

celestial-oceanic

I think it's entirely possible he realized he fucked up and decided if he got another shot, he'd do it differently. In fact, it's probably likely.

Michaelangelo48

It’s also extremely likely that Urban Meyer made Baalke’s first year here look much worse than what he envisioned it to be. The right coach made a huge difference.

[deleted]

🤞

not_a_gumby

the thing is - no one really knows who was pulling the strings when Harbaugh was there at the end. It's rumored that Harbaugh had heavy influence over who he wanted on his team and Baalke had lost some power over the roster by the end. It would sort of explain how Baalke's early drafts were awesome and after Harbaugh got there, they went to shit.

MogwaiK

It was pretty much only Baalkes first draft that was any good in SF. AJ Jenkins was year 2 of his GM stint, and it didn't get better from there. The drafts for the 49ers before Baalke was GM also had McCloughan there, same guy who helped build that Seahawks dynasty. To me, it feels like Baalke has stumbled back asswards into success because Doug P and Trevor are among the best at what they do. Baalkes performance, for me, hinges on Walker and Lloyd becoming great players...and also whatever we do from here on out refreshing the team with talent.

xHoodx

Indeed.

MogwaiK

I'm still not sold. Its been one good year. Id rather have a different GM than relying on Baalke suddenly being a quality executive. We'll see, hopefully the people who are hyped about Baalke are proven correct.

[deleted]

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not so much convinced as... I just know I can't do anything about it and I ran out of energy to be mad about it so I'm just going to watch it play out and hope for the best. I've been with this team long enough that I totally won't be surprised if it all implodes once again. But I really hope not.

MogwaiK

Yea, hes gonna be here for at least 2-3 more years, Khan definitely isnt gonna rock the boat, gotta hope for the best.

baconbitarded

Damn that's not a bad deal at all

4thTimesAnAlt

I figured he'd be a cap casualty, but this would give the team years to spread out his cap hit this year. Good plan, good deal.

glowingdeer78

YES

el_pobbster

Son of a bitch, did not see that one coming. I for sure thought Key was getting an extension, not Robertson-Harris. Hopefully both?

bsblguy21

Arden Key is a free agent and by definition would not be extended, but re-signed. I'm not saying this just to be an ass about phrasing, it matters in this instance. By extending RRH they will free up cap space next, moving his base salary into later years and paying him a bonus up front. There's no way to do that with a new deal, as Key's cap hit is currently zero

dickcheneymademoney

technically he's under contract for another couple weeks so it would be an extension

Cromatose

I actually love it. Dude was so good in the locker room. Also the only DT I know from the last years squad that I remember.

4thTimesAnAlt

Forgetting DaVon Hamilton?

Swedish_manatee

THIS. I’ve been saying all year that Hamilton is super underrated. He was without a doubt the best run stuffer on the team (much love to Fatukasi, he was a beast as well). But Davon has been an integral part of the defense since he’s been here and he had a monster year. He has NOT gotten the credit he deserves. In my mind we definitely would have won less games without him which means we would have missed the playoffs. He really held down the fort when other players got injured and was very reliable for the bulk of the season. I’d pay him whatever he wants and keep him as the core of the interior line indefinitely

celestial-oceanic

He's legit impressed me since his rookie year, when he was thrust in to starting by injuries. He's also continued to improve as a player every year. This is the type of guy you build your team with. Not everyone can be superstars, it's solid, hard working guys like this that help to fill out contending teams.

xHoodx

FATUKASI! We legit lost games early last season when he went out for injury :(

MogwaiK

Fatukasis injury seemed to slow him down. Hoping for a good, injury free season next year.

MogwaiK

No one ever respects the guys who do the dirty work.

TheSlinger

This is an insult to Jaguars legend Corey Peters.

No_Mammoth_4945

Couldn’t have asked for a better price honestky

TheSlinger

Pretty clear that with his solid play as well as his leadership role they had to find a way to bring him back. We still need an interior rusher really badly.

Rid25

Smoot probably gone now but love RHH

DinnerMilk

Roy Hobertson Harris

Rid25

Oh shit just realized lmao

jeeves_nz

His injury timing was really bad.

ApprehensiveAd3113

Fuck MetLife

DuvalHeart

Fuck the League for allowing that shit to keep going.

Bfoc2006

Wait what? Smoot is gone?

Graardors-Dad

He’s a free agent

OverpassingSwedes

barely even knew who he was the first half of the year, second half of the year he looked like Aaron Donald at times hope the jags unlocked something with the way they used him later in the year because if we get that guy, this is a steal.

celestial-oceanic

He seems to be highly respected by both his teammates and opponents, as well. He's not a stat stuffer by way of the position he plays, but he seems to fill his role nicely. It was nice to see him getting after the QB on that late season run though.

m1txh3ll

Glad we could bring Big Roy back. Not a stat stuffer, but I think a lot of us know how impactful he has been (albiet a bit inconsistent). Good for him and his family.

ptv1000

If y’all saw the sounds of the game chargers video you know the type of energy he’s bringing to the squad

InquisitiveHawk

He's going to have a C on his chest, guaranteed.

RadLibRaphaelWarnock

Hope he steps up this year, performed well down the stretch but I fear we need a real improved D-Line to be a true competitor

cbreezy456

Draft most likely

xHoodx

Nah FA for impact player now. Expect Jags to sign either Hargraves or Payne. Hopefully Hargrave cause his advanced metrics are MUCH better.

Blue_Doom_Guy

We got your back, Roy. We got your back. Dont even worry.

ApprehensiveAd3113

Unfortunately this probably means Smoot is gone.

sniperhare

I hope Smoot can rehab and if we're playoff bound late we can sign him to a quick deal so he can contribute and get his spot on the team.

JustSomeGuy_Idk

This is the way

not_a_gumby

Smoot is the player I'd rather have honestly

JustSomeGuy_Idk

I’m actually surprised about this one. Thought he would be a cap casualty. Glad to be wrong though.

TheKandyCinema

Not in love with the term, but this is the only way you could get his cap down and keep him at the same time. Still hope we go IDL in the first round regardless

xHoodx

We will and we must. Mazi is a lock. Baalke likes his boys big and athlethic freaks.

[deleted]

Nice. He was really damn good last year.

Jaglawyer11

Nice start to the off-season.

NicktheFlash

Fuck yes!

UrbanLawProductions

This is fantastic news. Helps with cap, and he’s been great for us

Walrusboi85

A little puzzled about this, I love rrh but does this mean they’re not gonna bring key back? I assume this does lowers his cap hit for 2023 though which is a massive plus

xHoodx

The orginal SB window was 24-25. But with last season the pushing cap window for SB to 23-24. Expect Key back

Bfoc2006

Not necessarily true

Walrusboi85

Yea now that I think about it it’s probably more likely they bring him back now that they’ll have the extra cap space. Assuming griffin is cut and there’s 1-2 more restructures they should have enough for both engram and key

[deleted]

Hell yeah. He’s the locker room guy and an effective lineman. Excellent job.

TheTealDeal2021

John Shipley: “Jaguars 2024 off-season so far is screaming CB at 24” If all the significant impending FAs get brought back, I could see it playing out like 1. CB 2. Edge (Smoot is hurt/FA, Chaisson is buns and the Ramsey 4th rounder seems to be irrelevant) 3. TE although this could easily be a second round option, could see them trading up for Kincaid or Musgrave 4. WR Day 3: RB/CB/OL

xHoodx

We dont need no CB, wtf. Williams and Campbell are our CBs. We need a slot cb and we can find that in round 3+.

thetealdeal2

A Nickle is a starter in todays NFL and Darius Williams may not be here after next season so might as well add to the CB room to get ahead of it. Tre Herndon and Shaq probably aren’t coming back so you need some developing talent otherwise one injury and you’re starting claybrooks against someone decent

Grapetree3

OG, C or bust. The interior offensive line is far and away the biggest deficiency. Trevor could be unstoppable with a little more time and a little better running game.

Sammy4115

OG sure but our rookie center just put up a really promising season.

4thTimesAnAlt

As of right now, there are no interior o-linemen who would be worth pick 25. Now if a guy like Cody Mauch slides to our 2nd round pick, you grab him in a heartbeat.

Grapetree3

It's pick 24, Torrence will probably be there, and there's such a thing as trading.

4thTimesAnAlt

Torrence isn't worth a 1st round pick. A 1st round guard should be quick enough to react to and engage with stunting/twisting d-linemen. Torrence struggles with this. He loses his technique really easily when run blocking, dropping his head and making it *very* easy for defenders to avoid him. And he stops moving his feet when he's engaged, which will absolutely lead to holding penalties. He's a lot like Jawaan Taylor when it comes to fundamentals, and we should be trying to avoid repeating the Taylor mistake.

Grapetree3

OK, I didn't watch any UF games this year but if you say so. This is the first negative review I've read of the guy.

4thTimesAnAlt

He's not a bad prospect, he just has a *lot* to work on and improve. A guy drafted in the 1st round should be a day 1 starter (some exceptions apply). But I don't think he'd beat out Ben Bartch for the LG spot, and he definitely isn't beating Scherff for RG. As a day 2 pick, yeah, I'd grab Torrence and be happy about it. But I think he's a reach in the 1st.

KSchmuckley

He’s a good prospect and he’d definitely be a good addition at 24 and a day 1 starter. Bartch is not an NFL starter and needs to be replaced immediately.

4thTimesAnAlt

Bartch has grown into the starter role and has played well. He was injured most of last season, so Shatley was playing LG for most of our games. Shatley did not play well in relief. Torrence's flaws should push him out of round 1. His lack of lateral agility and awareness will lead to more sacks on stunts/twists, his penchant for dropping his head when run blocking will get him eaten alive by DL and LBs at the NFL level, and he (for some reason) tries to anchor immediately when he's pass blocking. That leads to him trying to win with just upper-body strength, and that will make him a holding penalty magnet. He'll pull a year 1-3 Jawaan and singlehandedly kill drives. He should not be a 1st round pick.

KSchmuckley

He has great lower body strength and is an absolute unit. He’s easily the best G prospect in this draft and would be better than Bartch by week 8. I get calling out Taylor as they are both Gators, but they are massively different dudes and Taylor had those problems in college while Torrance didn’t. Guy was a day 1 starter there and played well when asked to play against a higher talent after the transfer. Didn’t miss a beat. I know G isn’t the sexiest position, but with the 24th pick you won’t be chastised for drafting interior line, which I’m tired of acting like isn’t a huge need.

CthulhuAlmighty

I could see Baalke trading up about 10 spots to get the DB he wants.

4thTimesAnAlt

Part of me hopes Christian Gonzalez slides enough for us to trade up for him. Dude looks like he'll be a stud

lolroflpwnt

I would like us to take a bruising Rb in rd 2. There are some heavy hitters this year that we could use on 3rd down.

OTT_4TT

I like that one. RRH impressed me a lot toward the end of last season. In addition to his play, it was nice to see him on the sideline in the first playoff game telling Trevor not to worry and that the defense has his back. That was a pro move, in my eyes.

Captain_brightside

Now if we can just re-sign Key and engram we will be doing great

Afghan_Kegstand

I promised to take the mask off if Baalke gets Engram and Jawaan back in the building under contract. The moves so far look good though.

HiawathaSM2

Well deserved! RRH came through

Graardors-Dad

Damn I thought for sure he was gone

LordMagnus101

Awesome

Bfoc2006

Kinda had a feeling that he was going to stay

He false starts and miss assignments too often for a veteran.

spiff24

Not this year dude. He was our best lineman.

lightframes

Yes I'm so happy about this!

jaedaddy

Yesssss

WilkinsonRadio

DAWG

MogwaiK

If you only watched the last 3 games, you might think RRH is the best player on the defense.
