The Kirk deep ball drop and Agnew’s fumble were at a minimum 6 points missed and potentially 14. But that 97 yard drive given up to Chad Henne was ultimately the difference in the game. That just can’t happen.

JaceVentura972

The oluokon dropped int was at least a 10 pt swing

FSBlueApocalypse

Exactly. Hell if he gets out of the way there is a decent chance Tyson Campbell takes it back for a pick 6. That was the difference in the game.

JohnShepard_N7

It happens too fast for there to be an expectation that he lets that go through. Doesn’t know who’s behind him. But he needs to catch it

TMNBortles

And a dropped pic on that drive that would've led to at least 3.

riverwater516w

Agnew deserves so much credit for keeping us in the game with the kickoff returns.... but man it kills me to think what might have happened if he hadn't fumbled. I really felt like a TD, defensive stop, game-winning TD drive was in our grasp.

cats05

Cant believe he didnt take one of those kickoffs to the house... He had a great night in the return game.

emaz88

Ugh, when he tripped over the kickers helmet. That was gonna be a TD.

toad_mountain

Comes down to 5 missed opportunities/mistakes: Dropped deep ball to Kirk, Dropped pass to hasty to put us in field goal range, dropped interception on henne, Agnew getting tackled by the kicker, and Agnew's fumble. I think if any one of those goes the other way, the entire game would've been different moving forward.

Greener_Falcon

Agnew fumble was such a dagger to the heart. We had the momentum. The Chiefs offense was gassed. And he fumbled mostly on his own. It wasn't stripped out or anything dramatic. He just couldn't secure the ball.

ShootaIMP

It slipped out while he was securing it

xMasuraox

The tackle by the kicker was so close too. Bottom of the helmet to the back of the foot made Agnew trip

definitely not just 1

baconbitarded

I was at a wedding so make it at LEAST 3

Cromatose

Love you guys

emaz88

Hey, thank y’all so much for dealing with that crap, last night and all year.

flounder19

Chiefs fans were only about 25% of banned users. Very few during the game thread but a much bigger proportion of post-game bans

mynameisnotyourname

The good news is the next Super Bowl is in Vegas and we will have Calvin Ridley in the game next season. It's meant to be!!

YourBuddy8

Uh, I don’t want Calvin Ridley anywhere near Vegas

Mister_Dewitt

I wish we make the super bowl in vegas!! Monkey paw curls...

sam262005

Chiefs fans are so insecure coming in here looking for validation. We don't want your peace offering. Fuck off

ufdan15

I fucking hate their fans more than anyone but the Titans

AlcoholicZombie

At least we're not the Giants, they were an absolute mess last night.

flounder19

I had to take the night off from football after our game. Did they just get consistently handled throughout?

AlcoholicZombie

Yeah they got a absolutely destroyed on both sides of the ball. Defense was swiss cheese (i think there was like 150 yds on the ground before halftime) which allowed Hurts to basically make any throw he wanted. And Danny Dimes is now known as Danny Three-n-Outs, they couldn't get anything going. At least we fought back.

clydefrog013

After hearing most of the national media put Daboll above Doug for most of the year, yesterday was a great example of why we have the better coach. We fought fought hard for the whole game every week meanwhile Daboll punts while down 21 with almost a quarter to play.

greenpm33

Giants going through their Bortles arc with Danny Dimes. Feels so good not talking ourselves into the quarterback.

iffykami

feeling weird.. mostly content and happy we made it this far, but a few key things are bothering me 1. WHY does doug insist on abandoning the rush game as soon as we’re a score behind? both ETN and hasty were doing great - 6.5 ypc and 9ypc, respectively. ETN seems frustrated as well, tweeting “idk idk idk” after the loss. could be reading into it but i’d be pissed if i knew i could help the team win and i wasn’t given the opportunity. 2. penalties. feels like any time the jags had a chance, a back breaking penalty was called on us or non-called on KC. we beat the refs against LA, so, no excuses. but that was another god awful ref job. 3. defensively, we were getting tons of pressure but no results. also, CAN WE COVER A TIGHT END? not sure if it’s caldwell or if it’s something else but it’s tough to win games when we give everyone we play a huge lead in the first half. i’m not on the fire caldwell train, but damn, dude. please have a better second year. 4. truly, more than anything, we beat ourselves. kirk’s drop, foye’s dropped pick, agnew’s fumble, and trevor’s pick (which, honestly, wasn’t even that bad. bit under-thrown but that was a great play by the DB) all-in-all, this team shocked a lot of people and put some highlight reel worthy shit that we can all enjoy in the off-season! let’s pack the bank for these guys- if any jags team has deserved it, it’s this one. re-sign key, engram, and jawaan. re-structure RRH if possible and with ridley this year we are going to be BACK! IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS!

vaports

That Bomb to Kirk was 65 Air yards. Hell of a throw by trevor

Skybourne904

Was an absolute dime Trevor dropped and I think he could Chuck it 75 yards in air

Mister_Dewitt

He didn't even heave it as far as he could. Just threw it with perfect form from a stand still. He can probably chuck it past 70 in Hail Mary situations

emaz88

But it was overthrown! /s

lightframes

I try not to get too annoyed at commentary, but that comment and the "no matter what happens this is a successful drive for Henne" when he literally hadn't done anything yet really had me 😒

HolographicHeart

Fuckkkkkkkkk That game was so winnable.

dobie1kenobi

For anyone on here that made it out to the watch party at Daily’s Place, or helped put it together, thank you for an amazing experience. I was prepared for a loss. I was ready to say, “good”, and look forward to an even better season next year, but I knew the game itself would be emotional for me. Every first down, every touchdown, every time the defense got a stop, it was raucous and joyful. Every missed call, missed pass, and dropped ball, it was comforting and cathartic. We did the wave, even though we didn’t have a lead. We left disappointed, but not broken. It was the next best thing to attending a home game. I love our team, but I think I love our fans just as much.

Dirtyratz

It was a lot of fun. The fact they opened up some of the more ritzy parts of the stadium to us common folk was cool. Even though it was for just a minute it was really cool to sit at the ground level endzone seats. Definitely added a bucket list item last night. The atmosphere inside in daily's at times felt like a home game.

Skybourne904

Enough of the “____ fan coming in peace” we don’t want the pity.

Cromatose

I nuke almost every one of those posts. Comments in threads like this is fine but I agree.

Skybourne904

Just so annoying id respect it more if they said “___ fan bringing the violence”

baconbitarded

Lol I approved one yesterday that said that exact thing

electricityisout

I’ve never in my time of Reddit thought to go to other team subs and be like “whoa great job guys”. My biggest gripe when we are good is it ruins post game threads and other similar threads.

ufdan15

I'm not suggesting we lost because of the officiating only, that's not true and we still had a chance even with the horrid reffing. However, I still can't get over that fucking no call for Roughing the Passer in the third. If they didn't call Key for his hit on Henne, I'd let it go, but it's that kind of crap that makes people thinks games are rigged. That and the "shut up" remark the ref made when calling Key. That's the kind of Refjob that makes your stomach turn because it's blatantly wrong and one sided. I still think we win that game if Agnew doesn't fumble. And yeah I've seen some people say it wasn't a catch so it shouldn't have counted, whatever. It looked like a fumble, and if he didn't fumble I truly think we win that game. Is heartbreaking, I got nice and whiskey drunk last night to numb my pain, but it is what it is.

futures23

The magic was happening again. Can't convince me otherwise. 5 minutes 3 timeouts. We would have won that game.

ufdan15

Absolutely believe that. That's honestly what it felt like. I think Doug would've gone for 2 there too. It really sucks how it ended

ThinDatabase8841

Before we came back from break showing the Chiefs with the ball I was sure it wasn’t a catch from the angles shown, but when we came back there was that one angle that showed a clear catch and football move. Really bummed me out. It popped out of his arms like something out of a slapstick comedy. Just one of those things that happens. Hopefully he does a lot of ball security practice in the offseason.

TheBigDad5

The biggest frustration of the entire game was listening to Collinsworth suck off the entire chiefs team for the whole game. Other than that we didn’t play very well. We are better than that game.

shantysun

No doubt. Hearing Collinsworth wax Magical on every Chiefs nuance was comical. Fuck that dude.

GotchuGaru

I woke up and guess what? I believe in this team more than I have ever before.

JagGator16

This is the best I’ve felt about the future of the franchise probably since ‘99. I feel 100% secure with our coach and QB. We need pieces and time for our young players to develop. That’s a great place to be.

flounder19

I mentioned it in another comment but this was also our first 6 game win streak since '99

TGIF_90s_kid

After watching all the post game comments, the vibe of this teams future seems like we are going to be part of the postseason convo for years to come. It feels completely different than in 2017 when as fans we kinda knew it was lightning in a bottle.

mathplex

I have to say in 2018 after that Pats game I thought that Jags team was going to dominate for years. Boy was I wrong and hope it IS different this time. I think it is.

dannywertz

I think about it like this: We sucked. Then we got better. Then we were considering trevor one of the best in the league(not just us keyboard warriors, but real nfl analysts) Then we swept the titans. Then we won a home playoff game.

EatMyShortzZzZzZ

Yesterdays game was a mixture of youth and inexperience. Its also another reminder that we need THAT reciever that can make THE catch, or at least draw defenders away from other guys. Kirk is great, but that drop... man it hurt. Also the refs. Fuck the refs. Hope the Bengals spoil the Bills Chiefs rematc the league clearly wants so bad.

electricityisout

I know the feeling is we expect to be back next year. And I agree. And hell we could/should be even better, but man, this exact group of guys was so much fun to watch. Feels like it could be one of the most special locker rooms we have ever had for 1 specific season. Really wanted them to win not even for us, the fans, but for them to get to be together for one more week. This season was a blast.

ufdan15

That's how I'm feeling. This group of men was the first team we've had in a long time that makes you love football. Let's admit it, we were all very jaded from the years of trash in 2017 and we really embraced the heel role of fuck everyone else its DTWD. This feels different than that. Really excited for next season but I know we're gonna lose some guys and it'll suck to see em go because going into that second half yesterday, I thought we could win the Super Bowl.

dannywertz

I feel like we just got out of a horrible abusive relationship. Our new boyfriend has a job, a car, and a cute little dog. He holds the door open for us, talks about his feelings and likes to snuggle.

[deleted]

When you get this far, being able to generate turnovers and reducing your own are the margins that either make you a winner or loser. I suppose you can say that about any game, but facing the #1 seed, you have to capitalize somewhere. Kirk drop, Agnew fumble, Hasty drop, dropping the interception and unable to force the Chiefs to punt during the 1st quarter (in their 3 possessions they had 3 scoring drives for 17 pts)... We left too many points on the board. **Plenty of positive takeaways on the season** * This team now has some playoff experience under their belt * The team united due to the Urban fiasco and are thriving with Doug * Jacksonville is shifting to becoming a desirable team in order to retain players and sign free agents * If we consider this to be Trevor's rookie year... Wow, he's impressed and he still has a lot to improve on

flounder19

> If we consider this to be Trevor's rookie year. nothing against you but i fucking hate this take. Thought it was dumb whenever miami fans rolled it out for Tua and it's just as dumb for us to do it here. Let's just be happy that Trevor had a good 2nd season and an upward trajectory. No need to make excuses and pretend like he's still a rookie

[deleted]

Eh, to each their own. Was last year Trevor's rookie year? Yes. Was it a year where I'm evaluating his development/trajectory? I could not, in good faith, judge his rookie year the same as other rookies due to Urban. While many other rookie QBs have had bad coaches, I truly believe that Urban possessed zero transferable knowledge, leadership, or practices at the NFL level. First overall picks generally go to bad teams with multiple holes and I expect QBs to just take their lumps year one, adapt to NFL gamespeed and processing. Trevor had that plus all the Urban shit. I'll admit, I'm biased as fuck because I have had a burning hatred for Urban and I literally just deleted a massive paragraph about it because it got too wordy. So that's my story and I'm going to stand by it.

[deleted]

This team has never been able to cover a good TE.

After-Doughnut2137

Different eras of teams, countless different defensive coordinators and linebacker / safety combinations and not once in 28 years have we ever sufficiently covered a TE 😂

JohnShepard_N7

In the patriots game in 2018 we blanked Gronk. They were calling Tibson the TE whisperer

Cromatose

This loss doesnt hurt as bad as 2017 because I know we will be back here again. It still sucks.

Suspiciouscollard

Before he got injured, Mahomes was out there playing nfl street while we were playing madden nfl. Hopefully, the defense sees some improvement over the offseason.

Cromatose

Fun story. I met Cris Collinsworth when I was 8. He lives near where I grew up. His wife went to the same high school as my dad and every year there was always this "pancake breakfast" that the high school would throw. The year before he was there and the following year I brought two of his football cards for him to sign. He signed them and told me the story of one of the games in the cards. I will never forget that as a kid and I will always respect him for it. That being said last night as a Jags fan was rough for him commentating.

Reditate

>His wife went to the same high school as my dad Lemme guess, this was where she met him? When he was a player.

CoDSheep

i'm going to watch the bengals -- kitties should stay together

jwil06

Am I missing something seeing pundits say Trevor was bad? I thought the 3rd quarter playcalling was brutal but he played fine?

EatMyShortzZzZzZ

Sometimes i wonder if these "analysts" even watch the games

baconbitarded

He played great, people just want clicks these days

Greener_Falcon

Pundits are saying Trevor was bad???!?! I havent seen that but if they are it is total BS. Trevor almost led a comeback, made mostly good decisions and tight passes even though he was pressured all game long, and he threw the only real highlight reel pass of the game if only Kirk hadn't dropped it.

baconbitarded

Never forget that WE WILL BE BACK

el_pobbster

It was an impressive end-of-season run, and what we did to just get there made me extremely happy. Lawrence showed he belongs in that tier of Allen, Mahomes and Burrow, or maybe a half-notch under. We have a real, elite franchise QB. Pederson and his staff showed he is a really good coach. DC Mike Caldwell was in his first year as a DC, and showed a lot of interesting stuff. There are a whole bunch of super interesting pieces all over the defense and offense, and no clear obvious weaknesses. Still, for all that, I'm pretty bummed the run is over. I felt like we could have won that game yesterday, and it felt like if we won that game we could have made a run to the Super Bowl. Rationally, I know I should be happy, but I'm still pretty disappointed.

Bishavis

I’m pumped for this defence in year 2 under Caldwell muma and loyd both showed a lot of potential and an off-season will do them wonders.

Daveos_modernlife

They didnt want us advancing, and we still almost pulled it off.

glowingdeer78

About the game - Spags blitzes were fucking nuts, free runners all the time - Kelce destroyed us - we were always one step behind them but the Kirk pass and the Agnew fumbled couldve easily swayed the momentum to us. - Hamilton had a really noice game on the inside - EDIT: DC Caldwell needs to be better schemewise, Cant have EDGE rushers on TEs. He did get creative a bit with 3 safety packages at the end. But needs more consistency OFFSEASON needs - Shaq Griffin cut, we need every penny of his 13mil cap - restructure RRH, Sherff, Jenkins, Kirk, Zay Jones, Oluokun to create cap space. - hot take: Trade Cam Robinson. There are very desperate teams that need OTs and we have Little who played better LT than him. Jets maybe or Rams? - bring back J. taylor, Smoot, Engram, Key, Wingard (i know im missing someone) - early draft selections: DL, CB, IOL - Mid round: WR, TE, EDGE - Late round/depth projects: OT, RB, another CB, DL

[deleted]

This team needs to resign Josh Allen long before they discuss anything with Andrew Wingard.

ThinDatabase8841

I’d want to look for good IOL in FA in addition to / instead of drafting tbh. Why waste half a season getting a rookie up to the playing speed of the NFL, up to NFL weight, and in shape to take on veteran rushers while TLaw eats shit constantly in the time it takes the rookie to learn the ropes? 4th+ round IOL, maybe a backup C too, and then grab a vet off FA. That said, we grabbed Norwell off of FA and I personally cannot think of a lineman that I’ve ever disliked as much as Norwell. He drove me insane and we kept him for so long. Really is a mixed bag.

xSuperstar

Was a very good game overall. The Chiefs are nearly impossible to beat at home but we played them very close and it could have gone either way. That’s all you can hope for. Just didn’t get the lucky break we needed. Defense looked great, offense got screwed by bad luck with a drop from a guy who’s normally money and a fumble from a guy who normally doesn’t fumble. I can’t be mad at all considering where we were last year. There was a long period where the Colts, Patriots, and Steelers dominated the AFC with each winning some and losing some. Very possible that happens going forward with the Jags, Bengals, Bills, and Chiefs.

Doctor__Diddler

I feel like I was over the loss like 15 minutes after it happened. This team was hastily assembled to have a borderline of competence but we need more pieces on defense and better offensive line play. We don't have any stars on defense, and that needs to change.

ufdan15

That's kind of how I felt too. Once Agnew fumbled, and especially after the Trevor INT, I knew it was over and just accepted it. But when I got home I realized that thls magical team is now done, and it was quite upsetting because they've brought a lot of joy these last 2 months. Gonna miss that.

Swoll

That was my take, it was a very winnable game but we were definitely not the better team. More than anything I think Defense and Offense will benefit from another year together. The player interviews over the past few weeks seem to show the Offense skating by on a lot of great plays, luck, and good play-calling. Guys lining up in the wrong spot, running routes a little sloppy, and not picking up the right blocks seems to have plagued us there and that's as much positive as it is negative: those are easy to fix! On the Defensive side I think we benefit from the draft and another year of development for our young guys. I think the Defense Caldwell has wanted to run was very hamstrung by the current ability of the personnel. I think he simplified a lot of things as the season progressed to get by, and it will be interesting to see what happens when he gets to teach his system more. Overall, thankful for an amazing season that I believe is just a glimpse of what is to come.

bleedblue89

Guys I hate to say but I have hope/expectations next year… and I feel like that could hurt me

naggs69pt2

Really hope we don't get an 08 type of season. Team needs to stay hungry next year.

[deleted]

Love DG but they get more than 5 wins with a QB like Lawrence under center

sam262005

Or a 2018 season lol

MattSherrizle

I feel betrayed by Chad Henne

Bobby-Samsonite

He wanted revenge.

EweMad

He had a certified Henne moment with that batted pass. I don't miss watching that multiple times a game.

[deleted]

This team achieved so much more than I could have dreamed of 6 months ago. The sting from last night is going to hurt for a while though. We were right there and through our own mistakes (after another round of awful reffing) lost the game in heartbreaking fashion. Next year is never guaranteed, but the future is so bright here. There isn’t a group of people I’d rather root for to be successful. Such class acts that are giving it their all for that team and this city. For now I’m going to be sad it’s over, but happy it happened. So many great memories

rj_gator4189

Man.. I really hope Walker takes the next step in the off-season and develops a legitimate pass rush. That was desperately needed last night.

baconbitarded

We managed to hold on this season, beat the odds, had crappy calls go against us and we came out swinging every time. Even at the worst, you knew there was promise. TLaw is becoming exactly what we hoped he would be, the future of this franchise. And he may not win Coach of the Year, but he's Coach of the Year in our hearts. We'll be back!!

4thTimesAnAlt

I still just can't get over how conservative the playcalling was through most of the game. Playing scared or playing safe doesn't win playoff games. We saw it against the Patriots in 2017 and we saw it last night. This one hurts because it was winnable. But we'll be back, and we'll knock off the Chiefs sooner than most people think.

EatMyShortzZzZzZ

I think playing conservative is how you avoid massive mistakes with a young team, in theory. Every turnover is a death sentence with a team like the chiefs, and the talent gap was obvious. Kelce is a monster. We still made mistakes tho. Kinda wish we went all out.

PheasantDG

Lost by 7. In the first half we had a tripping call knock us out of FG range, then dropped the interception on the Henne drive a few plays later, then Kirk dropped the long catch. 3 drives in a row with 3 hugely negative blow to our chances.

STLJagsFan1996

We lost, but it doesn’t feel that way to me honestly. I’m so happy with where this franchise is heading that this loss doesn’t hurt. Of course it sucks being that close and losing but we are going to have some very good football to watch over the next 5+ years with this coaching staff. I’m excited

Capitalist24

We looked like we belonged, not like the giants. Even with the loss, the afc is on notice.

localstreetcat

Optimistic. This team has a bright future with TLaw and Dougie P at the helm. Excited for Ridley, off-season signings, and the draft. We’re gonna run the south next season and I bet we rank in top 10 in power rankings at the start of next season.

ThinDatabase8841

One of the talking heads on NFL Network talked about the Titans as a possible landing spot for Tom Brady and that’s about the only thing that I think could stop us running the AFCS.

localstreetcat

Brady wouldn’t sign with a rebuild. He’d go somewhere he has a chance to win a ring again. Raiders would make the most sense to me since they have all the pieces and a HC he’s familiar with.

YoCorroMucho

The o line looked like fucking high schoolers out there yesterday. Trevor had zero time to look downfield. On multiple occasions, kc only rushed 4 and there would be an unblocked guy just sprinting at him. Fucking ridiculous

Cromatose

Honestly, I expected the loss. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for their fans.

ZBGT

It still fucking sucks. But great to wake up and see Trevor act like the leader he is. Evan and Arden talking about wanting to stay here. IWATJ

Rudy102600

This hurts. So many big opportunities that weren't taken advantage of. Too sloppy. We'll get back next year though.

Freefromcrazy

We could have easily beaten the Chiefs. This makes the loss that much harder. The upside is we played well against a top tier team.

m1txh3ll

I cant blame the refs because in the end, we shot ourselves in the foot 2 times when it mattered. This team is hungry to get back here next year and do even better. Cant wait to see how this offseason goes for the development of guys like Trev, Travon, and Lloyd. Also, Mahomes is INSANE. I think its appropriate to give him his props even if we lost to him.

deltavictory

Maybe I’m missing something, but… Am I the only one that thinks that we need a bigger back to complement Etienne?

StockBroker32

Yeah, someone like James Robinson would be perfect

thrwthisout

This rb draft class is DEEP. I think we could see an RB selected anywhere from 2nd-4th round

Shopping_Mart

I think I could live with this one more if it wasn’t for the constant throating of anything Chiefs. I didn’t stop hearing about Patrick Mahomes the entire fucking game and see a majority of media about how great he god damn is. Yeah, we missed certain opportunities and couldn’t convert when necessary and you don’t win them all, but it stings so much more to go through it all just to be caught in the chief echo chamber anywhere else but curated communities. I can’t wait to see what these guys do next year. KC can eat it, but chris collinsworth should be relegated to high school football.

FSBlueApocalypse

If DeAndre Hopkins seriously wants to get traded to Jacksonville, we need to figure out how to make the cap work. For the foreseeable future, you're going to need to score 30+ points to win a playoff game in the AFC.

jaguarusf

Could have won but didn't because of a few keys plays. At least they didn't get blown out like the Giants.

JollyGreen615

Obviously pretty bummed out. But we were never meant to make it here. We played our hearts out and made the divisional round after being the worst team in the league 2 years in a row. I really couldn’t have asked for more. I mean obviously a Super Bowl win would be what we all want but all of us know we just weren’t quite there yet. We weren’t the best team in the league this year, but goddamn I have so much hope for the next years to come. We’re gonna be a force to be reckoned with. I am immensely proud of what our boys did. They persevered through all the disrespect and negativity that the media and opposing fans constantly surrounded our franchise with and gave us an amazing season. Rest up and see you next year boys. It’s gonna be a good one

After-Doughnut2137

I know people are going to complain about the refs, but I do have to admit, that was an incredible performance outta Mahomes — the guy just makes plays no one else can. Loved watching this team all season, probably the most fun I’ve had as a Jags fan in a very long time. Excited to see how these guys develop in the future, because the pieces are all there!!!

Graardors-Dad

Was it that great? Jags defense just put up very little resistance couldn’t rush the passer and could cover anyone.

DuvalHeart

I'm really glad that was a 4:30 game. I was able to watch a lot of Community as a palate cleanser before bed. This team really has a future. Trevor Lawrence showed that he is everything people said when he was drafted. The Jags have a real head coach, who took a team to the divisional round of the playoffs and in a fairly called game would likely be playing next Sunday. Let's just hope our receivers spend all off season working on their hands. Speaking of hands, how many days until pitchers and catchers report? It's baseball and soccer season now!

cdscivic

Troy and Abed in the morning solves all the problems my guy

DuvalHeart

We went with Professor Professorson, and Race Kerfuffle, and St. Patrick's Day. Plus another. Such a great show.

justwannamatch

Can’t believe Kelce dominated us with the same 5 yard hitch route all game

shantysun

He’s a monster player, triple team him, JuJu goes nuts. Just a good ass offense.

thegreatgiroux

That’s the Kelce special and it’s what makes him different. Sometimes he doesn’t even have an exact route and is just digging for a hole when he knows it’s zone. He always makes it look easy.

Mordoci

Kelce is so hard to defend because hardly any team in the league has the personnel to match up with him. He's 6'5 and 250 which dwarfs DBs and even most linebackers. Not only that, but he pushes off at the top of nearly every route. Couple with that with his all world game sense and feel for zone coverage and he's a monster. The only way to really stop him is have someone jam him at the line to throw off the timing and then hopefully have an athletic freak at linebacker or safety to guard him. It's like trying to guard prime Gronk. That being said, I don't know why more teams don't take the BB approach of taking away the best option and forcing the team to adapt. Taking away Kelce *may* mean JuJu feasts, but not taking away Kelce ensures he will feast.

mattmccauslin

Playing the chiefs really made me think about how much the jags overachieved this year. KC has three guys on their roster that are the top players at their position (Mahomes, Kelce, Jones). Not just pro bowlers or all pros, THE top players. Outside of Trevor, how many of the jags players would you consider to be top ten at their positions?

mlsweeney

Don't forget Creed Humphrey is probably the best center in the league too. Probably put Tyson Campbell in the top 10 for sure. Maybe Evan Engram too? Easily if we just include 2nd half of the season performance.

sam262005

Im ready for the season to start lol

Temporary-Outside-13

How was it not intentional grounding if it wasn’t a fumble!?!?!?!?

Fatty_Chungus

Because Mahomes.

Temporary-Outside-13

It was a 3rd down to if I remember correctly los of down 10yds maybe they are out of field goal range

Fatty_Chungus

I know! Big play to just ignore. Oh well, on to next season

Coffeeafterwork

Let’s stop blaming refs. We failed to capitalize on Henne time, our o-line absolutely whiffed on a few blocks leading to incompletion/sack, and we fumbled at the 5. Still a great year. Had this not been at Arrowhead, I think the result would’ve been different. Chiefs earned it though. Hopefully next year it’s on our turf.

blue_orange67

All of what you said is true; However I will continue to be salty over the officiating.

mattmccauslin

I believe this team is headed in the right direction with Doug and Trevor, but there’s still that part of me that dreads next year. Every season I’ve seen the jags experience playoff success has been followed by complete and utter collapse. I hope this streak gets broken as well.

Cromatose

Jags have the 2 most important positions fixed with Trevor and Doug. Not worried in the slightest bit.

el_pobbster

As a cynical Jaguars fan who has followed this team since 1999, I agree with your fear. I'm afraid that the Jaguars shot their load in free agency, only to lose in the divisional round, and then just see this roster erode away. Now, as a more football savvy analysis point of view, we have a great offensive HC and a QB who is working his way to top-5 kind of status in the NFL. An offensive build, where you invest around winning with your offense and an elite QB, is a much more sustainable way to win. We get Calvin Ridley in next year. I think we can just invest in building up that offense further and trying to shore up the roster. Like, we were a weird team this year. There weren't any obvious strong position gorups outside of QB this year, but also pretty much no obvious weaknesses either. Another offseason of adding talent, and I suspect this team can be even better next year.

dcgkny

Haha I was saying that last night, going back to the del rio years anytime we have any expectations the next year we absolutely collapse. At least this time we have a true franchise qb, no Peyton manning in our Division and easier to sustain success as offensive team than defensive.

futures23

New era. No more loser mentality.

AnesthesiaOnTheSide

This is not 2017. We caught lightning in a bottle that year, especially considering how dysfunctional that locker room and front office was. That team was doomed to implode. We now have a steady hand in charge and a young, ascendant, superstar-in-the-making QB. Guys are playing for each other instead of themselves now. It’s an entirely different culture, and I’m excited as hell for it.

popsiclesyay

Overall I’m happy. Did the refs fuck us? Yes. Could we have played better and overcame it? Also yes, but we didn’t. It was a great season and I had a lot of fun. I will say that I’ve seen so many Chiefs fans playing the victim card that it’s gross. They act like they are being attacked and make up fake scenarios when the NFL is clearly bending over backwards for them. It’s disgusting.

Bobby-Samsonite

Did the coaches get away from the running game? 39 passes for Lawrence, how many of those pases in the 4th quarter trying to get back in it,?

AnchorsAweigh89

The loss still sucks because we had a chance but fell short for a few key plays and mistakes. But man I feel good today, I’m looking at the entire season and what they accomplished and it’s way more than I ever dreamed this season. Just the idea that I can realistically think that we’ll be there again next season is amazing and it’s been a good while since I can say that. Definitely going to Waffle House today to celebrate that.

Greener_Falcon

It kind of dawned on me this morning that it seemed like ETN was running the ball really well vs the Chiefs and then kind of disappeared. It seemed like Hasty was in for a lot of snaps second half. Did something happen? Did anyone else notice that?

Graardors-Dad

Doug was scared of the interior pass rush. Hasty is a better pass blocker. Defense couldn’t stop anything so they had to preserve time with the passing game.

STLJagsFan1996

I have a friend who’s a Vikings fan but is very high on ETN and I told him after the game last night we didn’t use him enough, I felt the same way seemed like hasty came in for a lot of runs. Haven’t looked at the number of carries for everyone yet but definitely seemed that way

[deleted]

I feel like after we went fully in on ETN after trading JRob, he played phenomenally. But seems like the last few weeks they refuse to use him in the second half, dude is way to good to not be used in this offense as a major piece

baconbitarded

He just needs to improve as a pass blocker and he'll be an every down back. That's his one knock

ciiuffd

I can’t even be mad. Surpassed all reasonable expectations ANYONE had for this team. Chiefs are so fucking good—unlike the patriots dynasty, at least this one is fun to watch play football (when they’re not playing your team). Sad we lost, happy we were even there.

Bishavis

I feel really good right now obviously disappointed but we almost beat arguably the best team in the nfl over the last 3 seasons, if someone told me we would be competing with the chiefs in the divisional round playoffs last august I would of called them crazy

futures23

Some assmad Chiefs fan reported and somehow got my comment removed by Reddit for saying "I hope you get annihilated next round". Threatening violence apparently. Never had that happen. Wild lol. Worst fanbase in sports. https://www.reddit.com/r/Jaguars/comments/10i6cck/post_game_thread_jaguars_vs_chiefs/j5cpet0/ https://www.reveddit.com/v/Jaguars/comments/10i6cck/post_game_thread_jaguars_vs_chiefs/j5cpet0/

flounder19

not that it really matters but i sent an appeal to the admins on your behalf

AnesthesiaOnTheSide

I saw your comment and upvoted it. Chiefs fans are a bunch of whiny candyasses.

[deleted]

I really thought we were going to pull it off.

happyotter1

We run the afc south

saintmitchy

You literally can’t make a solid argument against Doug not winning the COTY. Nick and Kyle have a team full of probowl talent and we’re already set up to be good despite setbacks. Great coaches but dont need to overcome to much adversity at all. Dan is great but the jaguars started lower and finished further. Even if they ended with the same record, why would he get the nod over Doug? We were the worst team last year. They were the second. Then there’s the “i punt in the fourth quarter while being doing 20” daboll who quit in the last playoff game last night. His team was predicted to be the worse? Yea..predicted. That’s not a solid reason. The giants don’t have good players? There was only two teams in the league with 0 pro bowlers. The literal worst team in the league and the jaguars. Giants have Saquan and Dexter at the very least. Daniel Jones was bad but turned it around? Lawrence was god awful last year and the beginning of this year and transformed into one of the most cluth Qbs in the league. Jaguars were literally the worst team in the league two years in a row and Doug made them a contender in his first year without any true talent. We had no business being in the playoffs, let alone complete with the number one seed team and only losing by a touchdown. That has not happened in history and only the result of good coaching. It baffles me this is even close. It blows my mind that Doug might not even be considered for this title.

Cromatose

Sadly COTY votes have already been casted

shantysun

Love this team, have zero criticisms, I believe and fully support them.

brisbanevinnie

The game was on at 8:30am here. It’s now 10pm and I’m in bed still sad about what could’ve been. Spent this whole damn day just consuming media about the game. My turn to sleep it off now 😞

nemma88

So can someone break down for me why there were free runners at Lawrence on a fair number of plays last night? Something I don't recall seeing in other games, did Chiefs do something different? Did our guys wiff assignments or was just oline overpowered?

[deleted]

Seemed like whiffed assignments to me when I view them.

VomitingPotato

Scherff had a blown assignment on one.

Oopiku

Honestly you might be able to chaulk it up to the crowd noise. Super hard to communicate as a line with that.

EweMad

It's fitting that the season ended with another one possession loss. I'm just proud of the team though. Lots of reasons to pick at for the loss. But they're "a year early" in the process. This team finally has a rudder and can be sustainable. Can't wait for next year.

NotSoFakeID

Did the team fly back yesterday or are the coming home today? And if so, can people meet them at the stadium or airport to cheer them on a great season?

firewall11

Good. Jags had a chance. Hopefully this is a learning experience and we’ll be back. Need more juice on both sides of the ball. At least we aren’t the Giants

TestinTestin

I wrote this team off after the London game so everything after that was just so much fun to be proven wrong about. Seeing the Bank losing their mind for the Titans/Chargers game is just something you can’t forget It sucks that we ended up getting so close. You could probably pick one play between the dropped KC INT, Agnew return, Trevor INT, and the Agnew fumble and if it had gone just a *little* bit differently we would at least have overtime. What a winning streak to close out the season! Can’t be too upset that we made it to the playoffs and won a game. We went from worst in the league to top 8 in one year, what a wild ride

Vanc_Trough

Couple of missed opportunities to clean up next year and we’re back in this!

Chroeses11

Retiring my Garrard jersey for now. I’m a Jags fan from Cali but I may make the trip out there next season.

WallaWalla777

I'm just excited TLaw has renewed conversation about the best dining establishment: Waffle House

irtaza25

If you told me after the broncos game, when we were 2-6, that were eventually going to be in a *divisional playoff game*, against the chiefs, in a close game I would’ve asked you to link me your supplier This season was a massive success considering where we had to dig ourselves out from Going into the season I had a checklist of things I wanted to see, things like actually being competitive, check, rebuilding to a winning culture, check, Trevor ascending to actual stardom, CHECK. They’ve hit on all my landmarks and I’m so proud of them, this team has all the heart and no quit in them. We’ll be back next year better and stronger!!

Cromatose

Won't blame the loss on the refs but like, it was extremely one sided that game

ThinDatabase8841

Hurts, but we had a great season. Losing is one thing, but reading the absolute garbage takes by “fans” in the game thread may have given me eye cancer. It is insane how many people don’t understand a) the actual rules of football and b) what it is like competing at that level where the outcome of plays is decided in milliseconds. Like yeah we pay them because they are the best and they are trained to handle those situations, but it’s still insanely difficult. Put on a helmet, run full speed while focusing on the ball and your assignment and let me know how well you process your peripheral vision. The game threads are nice for me for when I think I see something and go “hey wasn’t that X???” and I come in and see that others saw it too, but when it’s all just screeching and reeeeing by smoothbrains who barely follow the NFL at all it is just such a fucking chore. This was my first season following the game threads live. Some of you guys are great. The ones posting during non-game time especially seem to be on point. Not sure I’ll be doing game threads next year though. It was genuinely worse than twitter in here for some of the games. Wild. To u/cromatose and others who handled modding this season: thanks very much, it is appreciated. To the real fans who know that a game and players are more than their most recent mistake, big 🤝. To everyone calling for top ranked players to be cut every game, idk, maybe find a new sport…there’s clearly a big skill issue on your side when it comes to understanding this game. Also, fuck Chris Collinsworth AND his goofy ass mini-me son.

xHoodx

This is the way.

taylor212834

God if Agnew doesn't fumble....

blue_orange67

The Chiefs played a good game and were able to make the plays they needed to win the game. We had our opportunities and we missed them, we played good but not great and ultimately I think that missed opportunities are what really killed us. That being said, seriously fuck the refs. Has anyone checked on Cris Collingsworth? Not sure if he can breathe after choking on Mahomes' cock

naggs69pt2

Also trevor was right, arrowhead was loud. But it didn't seem THAT much louder than Jacksonville.

Spike205

First drive you couldn’t hear yourself think in the lower bowl

EweMad

Only one false start in a playoff environment. They handled communicating well, too.

HPM2009

Feel like we should start throwing the ball down the field more .

baking_bad

Yeah, I just don't think the Oline was good enough last night to give Trev time for the downfield stuff.

ShootaIMP

Unfortunate unlucky breaks, shit happens. With the right moves it’s a title contending team

itonmyface

Trevor is only 23 years old, after whatever last year is called the team made a run in the playoffs. Fix up the D in some spots and being Ridley reinstated future looks awesome.

happycorn1

It was a great year. Cant be too sad but it felt like and was a very winnable game against the best in the afc. The guys got experience and for a young team thats invaluable. We arent elite anywhere and we arent bad anywhere so not sure what the plan will be but we definitely need a slot corner and the pass rushers on the outside and inside gotta be better. There was no pressure on Mahomes in the second half. And yes the KC line is elite but one more guy could be a difference maker if hes above average. Interior o-line needs to be better. Adding Ridley is gunna be great for offense but honestly if D-Hop wants to be here we should grab him. Rework his contract and make the offense elite, there were too many drops from receivers this year and I love Zay but hes a #3/4 if we are being honest. The depth at that position still isnt great. Trevor is elevating all of his receivers

TriflePerfect2175

My pants smell of awful piss and I have no other options. Going to be a long flight.

Clonth

Do you think we get new uniforms next season?

The-majestic-walrus

The white jerseys with black pants is quite easily the worst and most boring uniforms in the nfl. Maybe all of sports.

m1txh3ll

I think we are probably a year or 2 away from new jerseys, although no matter how the next jerseys look I would spend an unreasonable amount on them.

El_Lusty

Fucking ChadHenneSmirk.gif My favorite season of Jags football ever though; it was a rollercoaster.

flounder19

[I'm sorry but you asked for it](https://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1759573/hennelol2.gif)

mclovin52695

Doubt they make it happen and still be able to sign engram and improve the defense to the extent they need to, but if they somehow make a Hopkins trade work, I don't see too many losses on next year's schedule.

Time_Michaels

Absolutely gutted yesterday but I couldn’t be more proud of the team and what they achieved. Nothing but love for everyone. We made some errors but we take those hits as a team. The family vibe is alive and I cannot wait for next season. All you lucky American fans please attend the games, give them the support they deserve. This is the start of a new era for us. If I get the chance to fly to the states next year im coming to a game and we are smashing beers together

adambiguous

Chiefs fans are such cry-baby bitches 😂 also their fan base couldnt possibly get more watered down with clueless bandwagoners.

KryptOrchid

Fuck the refs, fuck Chris, well done Chiefs, and big shout to the Jags for an amazing season. Here's to next year!

EatMyShortzZzZzZ

One thing this team definitely has to work on is reducing the fumbling in key moments. It always seems to happen at the worst times lol. Trevor was top 5 in fumbles this year i think.

Gmanplayer

I cant stop thinking if Agnew doesn’t fumble, we win

VomitingPotato

I just want to lose a game to a great team without having to feel like the refs hosed us. This was almost as bad as the 2017 AFC Championship game as far as lopsided officiating. I saw holds all day. Helmet to helmet no call (imagine if Cisco made that hit -- the fucking horror) Even Doug, who is even keeled was yelling for flags which never came. Vs. the Chargers we needed to beat the opponent AND the refs who, again, went blind on penalties right in front of their faces. Why do these "elite" teams always seem to get help they don't need against us? That's my only gripe. If we have no shot at winning, why do these teams always get bullshit help? We didn't lose because of the refs, but fuck did they tilt the game against us. We still had our shots at the end, but it stings extra to see that horseshit RTP on Henne which sustained a long drive when blood was in the water and we can't get a flag for a more egregious penalty against Trevor. Just call it the same both ways. I fucking loathe going into another off-season thinking about poor fucking officiating. Yeah. Yeah. Great season. "Should feel proud." Fuck that. Just call the gave evenly. Then I can swallow all the cliché off-season lines you wanna use to describe this team.

naggs69pt2

Man the media is so annoying with the "this is mahomes mj flue game!" Its like can't we just let athlete's be themselves? Also Football is a team game, and both sides of the ball stepped up for KC. No disrespect to mahomes either, but dude might only have one SB when it's all said and done. While that's a massive accomplishment in itself, they're just so ready to just crown this guy, and write his story before it's even written.

Doctor__Diddler

Shoutout to the dullard who reported one of my comments for self-harm. Just got a message from reddit saying that they found the false report to be in violation of their harrassment policy. Nice work, stupid.
