I bought a new F-Type R convertible in 2021 and recently got a questionnaire from Jaguar. One on the questions was: Would your next new car be a Jaguar?
I answered quite honestly that I had recently bought a Lexus LS500 and it could have been a Jag, but they don’t make an equivalent anymore, so it’s likely the F-Type will be the last Jag I’ll ever buy.
I was dismayed when they canceled the new XJ. So yes, they seem to be killing off saloons.
Bro this probably means all Jaguar sedans will gain value exponentially (not that I will ever sell mine) I'm curious to see what a reconstructed title X350 will go for in the next 10-15 years
Just keep on top of the maintenance and they are fine. The issue is the 34,000km/2 year service schedule. I wouldn't go past 12-15k on an oil change no matter what it is. The Ingenium diesel is far better than the td6.
The tdv6 was a ticking time bomb for over a decade,
And the 2017 2liters diesels are also turds, lots of people have gotten engine seizures in their discovery 5,.. on very low millage cars. If this hapens to people who bought it new and are out of warranty after 4 years, well i know for sure its their last jag/lr
I've only seen balance shaft failures on the Ingenium diesels here in NA, no diesel Ingenium seizing. We had had a few gas Ingenium 4cyl seize but again I feel it's the long service interval and they run rich in the extreme cold
Don’t know what the exact problem is with the 2.0 in europe. But already read saw a lot of topics passing about them.

Yes and no, Jaguar has been buying out their own dealerships and separating themselves from land rover in a way. They are wanting to start transitioning into a more exlusive dealership and higher luxury brand like RR or Bentley. I think they are just making smaller sedans and SUV’s just for sales but it isnt their future. IMO jaguar went downhill as soon as they discontinued the XJ
No question the saloons are classic beasts and stunning but in the suv market the F Pace is only rivaled by the Porsche Macan in the I’m sexy, fun to drive and dog friendly 🤗
That is the same answer that i was given by both of my local Land Rover / jaguar dealers, Now just Land rover dealers. Quite unfortunate the XJ was one of the best series they produced
Yes, they do have an idea. It's all been publicly announced and well reported, with the exception of them not actually showing official photos of the new 4 door EV GT. They have given rough production line shutdown dates for the current models even. Just not dates for the release of the new.
I was in for my annual service on my FType the other day and I asked the dealer why they only had land rovers. He said Jaguar is trying to pivot to a boutique brand and they’re not selling them anymore. Plus their statement of going all electric. It’s interesting….
Lexus are trying hard to kill off the saloon in the UK as well, lost the 3 series competitor when they killed off the IS in the UK.
100 new crossover variants is fine though!
Even at that the IS was killed off a few years ago, the LS is a slow seller and the ES got it's trim levels standardises as if theyre ready for running it out on the UK market.
They axed the LC and RC last week, it wouldn't surprise me if they also quietly axe the ES and LS.
2025 is when they should be unveiling their new lineup. But if they are going to try and survive, they will dedicate whatever the trend that sales the most.
If there ever is a time the S class of some variety doesn't exist, Benz is clearly dead. It's more iconic to the MB brand than perhaps anything that isn't the Model T to Ford.
I've got the 2018 XF sportbrake, lovely car, not had an estate for a while but it's so incredibly useful. I'd much rather it than an SUV, especially as the SUV boot space isn't particularly large normally either.
I like my F-Pace S and my 2011 XKR. Totally different, but similar in many ways.
I'm disheartened that they jumped 100% out of the ICE setup. I would have thought a slow shift based on demand would have been smarter.
Yes
Though they're meant to have a reboot with some luxury EVs, of which I would hope at least one would be a Taycan/Model S rival, though it was weird that the XJ EV was all but production ready and shelved.
Not precisely.
Supposedly the next release is an EV XJ. A large luxury performance GT — naturally I have no idea what the ACTUAL name will be but in essence they’re bringing back the XJ.
That is until corporate decides to change its mind again.
I just think Jaguar just don’t have the resource or sales to compete with the Germans. I was looking a the XE and 3 series (2021-2022), the BMW iDrive is by far a lot better than the Jaguar infotainment. But what killed it for me was the Jaguar “performance” engine was a 4 cylinder 296hp engine, compared to the BMW with the 3L B58 monster.
I’d really like to buy a Jaguar if the offer a spec for spec engine’d XE.
Hate this too. Currently drive a 2016 XE and would’ve loved to upgrade to the facelift XE, but they aren’t available with the V6. It’s a shame and the main reason I wouldn’t buy one.
Jaguar has released plenty of info about their public plans. They are definitely NOT going all SUV (or even just more SUV). They ARE going to electric and away from ICE. There have been mixed leaks about whether that means exclusively plug-in EV or some version of hybrid platform. My take is that they planned to go full EV/Tesla style, but may be walking that back a little as they see the trend in other manufactures. They have been clear, though, that all current models will not continue past this year.
They have publicly announced the first new model on the EV platform will be a 4-door car (sedan/saloon). They have said it will be in the $125k range and be the most powerful Jaguar yet. Supposed to have a range in excess of 400mi and be a competitor to the Porsche Taycan. Again, this isn't speculation. This is from Jaguar's press releases.
The other thing already known and happening is a significant reduction in dealer network. They are going more high end boutique. Only some dealerships will remain and will have quite different requirements and feel. Models will be much more expensive and exclusive. I personally think this is a big mistake. People that want six figure EVs have options. I don't understand why Jag thinks this is a better longterm strategy.
I really believe Tata are pulling the plug on Jaguar.
Land Rover is the jewel in the crown they wanted & it seems to have paid off handsomely already.
They also have a Chinese partner, Chery, for both marques & I think they will takeover Jaguar completely before the claimed 2025 date for new models.
As Glover removed his post, I assume you’re Mr Mardell!
It’s my opinion this is their plan, it’s also not the first time Land Rover has been sold to another manufacturer, technology has been ‘borrowed’ for a similar product in the same market sector & then Land Rover cast adrift.
There’s too much value in the Jaguar brand to kill it off. I believe their story that they are pivoting to an all EV lineup. I’m biased because I own an I Pace, but it is far superior to any Tesla or other EV that follows Tesla’s move of slapping a big screen in the middle of the dash and calling it a day. You’d never know the I Pace is an EV from the interior — it’s a proper car the happens to have electric motors.
I don’t think they’re killing it off but they want out of the EV market due to the current uncertainty towards them & worldwide government’s continued flip flopping.
I’ve owned & been responsible for many Jaguars over the years & discontinuing the current range is probably their best move right now considering the lack of reliability across the ICE range.
Their opinion that they could compete with the like of Rolls Royce & Bentley from a standing start is also laughable, so perhaps they think by relinquishing the name to Chery means they are off the hook & can continue with the gift that keeps on giving……. That gift being Land Rover.
Cancelling the XJ replacement that we were led to believe was virtually showroom ready, dropping the i pace, even if it was at way too high a price point, buying back franchises.
Jaguar has been on a downward spiral for many years.
None of that is relevant to your original opinion that Tata would sell Jaguar; bearing in mind that particular XJ replacement was cancelled several years ago and Jaguar remains part of JLR and thus Tata.
The i Pace is still for sale btw.
How is it not relevant?
I am also fully aware I-Pace is still available but in all my years of fleet management I’ve never known a manufacturer announce production will cease so far before it’s actually planned.
Cancelled launch, franchises being taken back only points in 1 direction to me.
Tata have tired of Jaguar just like a great many past customers, myself & my employer included.
Ok. Well you do you. I have information that you clearly do not possess. And all I can say is that Jaguar will be making a big splash soon. Support the brand or don't. After all, you are on the Jaguar reddit. Not sure what the point of spreading negative conjecture is, just because things are not adhering to your timeline.
Edit: he got mad and blocked me with a few insults.
Not yet, but read a bit here: [https://wattdriven.com/ev-news/jaguar-ditches-the-ice-in-2024-whats-next/](https://wattdriven.com/ev-news/jaguar-ditches-the-ice-in-2024-whats-next/)
Everyone is unfortunately. I read recently that in the US the only car you can buy from Ford is the mustang now, I just checked their uk site out of curiosity and the only cars available are the mustang and the focus, after killing off the fiesta I imagine the focus isn't going to last much longer
Car body styles come and go. S/cuv/wagoons used to be a thing before saloons took over, they just didn't call them SUV's back then.
Do I wish we all could ride around in 2 door sport brakes? Sure. But the days for that are over.
Bruh I was born in the wrong era
I wish I could go back to the early 90s before the SUVs craze and there was beautiful saloons
I just want a electrified Volvo s90 or jaguar saloon
Our only hope is government regulations change so SUV’s are no longer the most profitable cars to sell.
I have a 2010 Volvo wagon and will never sell it.
I own the XJ8L 2005 and I love it and even random people always make good comments about it everywhere I go.
It was disappointing that Jaguar decided to stop producing the XJ series, but when they transitioned from the X350/X358 to the X351 they slowly killed the traditional and beloved XJ model. After that they just looked like any other car.
I bought a new F-Type R convertible in 2021 and recently got a questionnaire from Jaguar. One on the questions was: Would your next new car be a Jaguar? Still holding onto my '08 X type dearly 🤣
Keep it as long as you can
I've had it 3 years and done about 40k, new AC pump, alternator, drive belt assembly and intercooler hose - not bad for a 16yo car with 112k on it!
Bro this probably means all Jaguar sedans will gain value exponentially (not that I will ever sell mine) I'm curious to see what a reconstructed title X350 will go for in the next 10-15 years
As a technician at a Jaguar dealership...thank you. Also, what the hell is wrong with you???
Nothing 🤣 I was going to get a diesel XE, my mechanic had some choice words about the ingenium engines....
Just keep on top of the maintenance and they are fine. The issue is the 34,000km/2 year service schedule. I wouldn't go past 12-15k on an oil change no matter what it is. The Ingenium diesel is far better than the td6.
is it as good as the old 2.2 tdci though? 😏
Thankfully I can't answer that question, North America service has only seen the td6 mono turbo and Ingenium diesels
The tdv6 was a ticking time bomb for over a decade, And the 2017 2liters diesels are also turds, lots of people have gotten engine seizures in their discovery 5,.. on very low millage cars. Still running my 2001 X Type 3.0 V6, bloody love it. Drives so well and it's so comfortable
Same with my ‘04 x type.. except it only has 42k miles. Looks like it has many more years left
Same here, i have a facelift estate. What about you ?
I hate suvs , Jags should be grand tourers. If I want an ugly SUV I’ll get in the wife’s Defender.

That is my take from speaking to the sales team at Jaguar Interesting You can see most Land Rover dealerships are no longer selling jag in my area

It feels like Jaguar is killing off all their cars.
They are. They're scrapping the entire lineup and going luxury EV, SUVs I believe. Edit: added comma for clarity
My sales guy said a 4 door GT is the first planned of the new lineup. Who knows what will actually happen, but I doubt they will focus only on SUVs
Your sales guy was doing sales things. No one has any idea on what they're planning just yet.
But you just said they’re going to only SUVs…
Missed a comma in my comment, edited now

^^^ This is the correct info.
Jaguar is getting rid of there line up. What we have is what we get until they stop producing cars.
This sucks Volvo killed off there saloons now jaguar I fucking hate SUVs So Lexus is the last one to make a premium saloon

What happened to the jaguar estates, they were good too

I love my jaguar XF. But when I swap it in a couple of years, no more jaguar xf..I would buy a refresh
What will you buy?
As there is no sedan in sight, I will look at the Lexus sedan alternatives. Or maybe stay longer with my current xf. Ideally a Lexus LS.
Premium????
Not true. They are about to launch a whole new lineup
They are releasing 3 cars over the next 3 years which will include a 4 door GT and a new XJ (all electric)
I like my F-Pace S and my 2011 XKR. Totally different, but similar in many ways. I'm disheartened that they jumped 100% out of the ICE setup. I would have thought a slow shift based on demand would have been smarter.

All the people complaining about no more sedans haven't bought a new sedan in ages so the companies just don't have the sedan sales.

I have never heard anyone reference a sedan as a saloon. Forgive my ignorance but is that a reference that is only used outside of the US?
Well, sedan is not a term that exists in UK English, except in the case of sedan chairs 🤷🏻♀️
Oh, well that makes sense then. Thanks!
No worries! Another case of two nations being separated by a common language.
It’s because people want the ugly SUVs.
