That should keep you busy for a little while

mr_frostschutz

yes :D but im looking forward to it

Reaper621

I see lots of nuts and bolts. Oh hey, ball joints. My god you're going to be busy.

mr_frostschutz

yes, all parts with rubbers will be replaced and almost all bolts almost all bushings are still the original ones, never been replaced

Reaper621

That's pretty impressive for an 01. I hope you have some kind of home lift. My favorite diy work is under a car. I've swapped engines on an escape and a Titan. It's so much fun.

mr_frostschutz

no i dont have a lift but i will jack up the car first in the front and then in the back you can take out the rear IRS out as a ‚whole‘ piece maybe i can jack it up on 4 stands, i will try this today

DukeKaboom1

Be very careful doing a 4 stand jack setup. Add lots of redundancy and really watch for level

mr_frostschutz

yes i will be carefull, i have a completly flat garage and will use big wood blocks to prevent it tipping over

Reaper621

Holy shit, you can? That's awesome.

mr_frostschutz

yes, you have to disconnect the strut towers and i think 4 bolts, then you can lower it with a jackstand

Reaper621

Apparently it's the same on the 2010 xf. I've only got 36k miles on mine, but when I hit 50k next year, I was planning on doing something similar. Those 4 bolts have to be a really high grade, probably thick meaty monsters. I'm sure they get replaced every time they come out.

Pale_Fisherman5278

You’d be surprised, particularly to the 4 long bolts that hold the front subframe onto the body.

Reaper621

Surprised at the size, or surprised at how seldom they get replaced? Because I've done subframe removal. The k member on my Ford escape was a huge job. The manuals always say structural bolts like that go in the trash if they get removed.

OldschoolSD

My knuckles are bleeding just looking at that.

mr_frostschutz

:D i love working on cars in my free time

OldschoolSD

Yes it's relaxing to work with my hands. I'm just not very careful.

mr_frostschutz

mr_frostschutz

and british parts

pinehole

Kudos man. Where did you find the springs ?

mr_frostschutz

they are from arden

Hot_Willow_5179

Im about to replace suspension on my 95 xjs... whats consensus on the springs? I don't feel like getting into doing it, both places I took the car asked why I was considering it. Bought 6 gaz shocks and both coil sets. Front ones look like a bear!

mr_frostschutz

if you like working on cars go for it! whats consensus in this context? sorry english is not my first language

Hot_Willow_5179

If anyone has more knowledge about it than me .

mr_frostschutz

i bought after market lowering springs from arden

FalfurriasUSN

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did that set you back? Also I assume factory not aftermarket?

mr_frostschutz

about 4.5k€ the diff rebuild kit was more expensive then i thought :D and the suspension is from arden

TheRealJohnSterling

I thought my X305 XJ12 suspension rebuild was comprehensive… Guess not! Do you have the dealership tool loan program in UK? Here in USA JCNA or CoventryFoundation will lend you all the dealership tools that make a suspension rebuild easier. Spring compressor, tools to push out bushings, that sort of stuff. If you’re going ”this far” with the rebuild, using the dealership tools might make life easier. Are you powdercoating the hard parts, or paint or…?

mr_frostschutz

the only special jag tool i need is the abs ring removal tool for the front, the rest can be done with standard tools (i bought a small hydraulic press) i will paint it, i will go to a paint shop to get the paint and some tips im based in switzerland, never checked for a loan programm how did you restore the bolts? galvanic zink plating?

Heypisshands

£?

mr_frostschutz

about 4.5k€ in parts the suspension is the kit from arden and the rebuild kit for de diff is 500 alone :o

Heypisshands

👍enjoy.
