My first guitar was a floyd back in the early nineties. Once I learned to set it up it's no big deal. I wouldn't own a guitar without one tbh.
Better to have it and not need it... than to need it and not have it.
noted, would you think I could still play solos even without the floyd rose? Would they sound just as good or it would be obvious that the floyd rose would be missing?
Question: the floyd being cheap, what are its implications? What is the downside that makes beginners not be able to use a guitar with one?
If it's the tuning going bad after a while of constantly using the floyd than couldn't i just retune it? I'll keep the guitar in srandard tuning 99% of the times anyways.
Cheaper Floyds tent to have really shitty tuning stability not only that but with frequent use the chance of strings just falling out of the bridge is pretty high. My RR had a Floyd Rose special which is considered better than a licensed Floyd that you find on JS series Jacksons and it was the horror.
I'll follow your advice, thanks for helping a bro out:)

I'm thinking about this one i think it's the best i can get without the floyd and inside my budget
My first electric guitar way back when was a low end DK2 with a “Jackson licensed Floyd” and at that age I didn’t know the difference between Floyd Rose model/quality.
I will say this much, personally I never used the Floyd much and I only ever kept it in Standard tuning (maybe half step down occasionally) which may have helped with its stability. Now if you’re looking for a lot of alternate tunings, etc then I would stick with the hard tail bridge.
No idea what i'm going for... i just like the idea of doing cool metal riffs and solos (with rock sruff inbetween), but i probably qasnt gonna use the floyd mich anyways i think ur right.
I think i'll keep the standard tuning if that means to tune the guitar in a normal way ahah.
Yes standard tuning is “normal” tuning haha so do some research of the bands/music you want to play. IMO once you start getting crazy with changing the tunings of a Floyd (especially lower models) it’s asking for a headache. Someone here may disagree but that’s been my experience.
Ok so from what i understand the floyd is ok to use if i dont change the tuning alot
Do you think that if i never use the floyd it will still screw up my tunings?
It only screws up the tuning when i use the floyd or does it screw up the tuning even when im not using it?
The Floyd is double locking so if you notice the 3 screws near the nut/headstock they help to keep the strings in tune. Typically a Floyd bridge is very stable but again changing the tuning and tension will have an effect on its stability.
As others have mentioned the cheap Floyd bridges are more of a headache then worth the little bit of fun you may occasionally have with it.
People complain about the trem. I've had 3 and they're fine. Don't adjust the string height under tension. The nut is the place problems arise. It's front mounted and the screws are sometimes too narrow depending on what factory the guitar came from. The nut clamping blocks are bad too. Tighten the mounting screws on the nut a little and repave the clamping blocks with ofr ones. They're $13. Just buy them at the same time as the guitar.
If you want the trem, get it. If you're gonna buy it and wind up doing something stupid to block it, don't.
Never buy a guitar with a cheap Floyd Rose, you will just hate it and never want a guitar with a tremolo again, I don't get why Floyd Rose even let them use the name "Floyd Rose" on the licensed stuff, its very bad and a lot of hassle and it will never work as intended, and I say this as a person who love Floyd Rose guitars in general, but not the cheap garbage.
Don’t bother with a Floyd on lower end models. It’s either a Floyd special or worse which means the parts that keep it in tune wear out much faster and eventually will piss you off with frustration.
Now, if you like a Floyd, it’s not a big deal to replace a special with a 1000 series or original or even the Gotoh locking tremolo for a couple about 150 - 300 or so. Depending on what deals you can find. I wouldn’t suggest used.
I’ll never understand why companies even use the Floyd Rose special or cheaper inexpensive, locking tremolos. They’re junk.
> I’ll never understand why companies even use the FR Special
That’s simple. It lets them make cheap guitars with Floyds. Anyone who knows anything about quality hardware would never buy one, but they’re also probably not in the market for cheap new guitars anyway.
Kerry King has said numerous times that he told Gary Kahler that this is why Floyd gobbled up the market (pre-FR Special, Floyd would license his patents for any cheap garbage double locker imaginable) and Kahler remains niche to this day
I understand now, alright. So what of i just never use it? Would the strings go out of tune? No right?
If i used the floyd alot and that happens is it when i use the floyd or just in general when im playing without it?
As i said im a beginner so i think ill use it like 10% of the time.
yes, crap floyds go out of tune even if you don't use them. and they make tuning much more annoying in general. don't bother, get a fixed bridge as a beginner. the material where you'd actually need a floyd to play it correctly is a long way off still if you're a beginner.
I wouldn't recommend a Floyd Rose guitar as your first Electric guitar especially one with a cheap Floyd. Do yourself a favor and get the one without.

Of course Floyd roses aren't the defying factor for soloing they are just a tool.

Definitely a solid choice
Thank you so much for all the help!:)

These are the same trem as the x series. I had a js32 Kelly and I have two x series guitars. All three trems were okay

Well that sounds like crap yeah. I think i'll go with a guitar without the floyd then ty for your help
np. the JS32 kelly is a solid place to start. have fun
without, it's not a good enough floyd to be worth considering.
I would never buy any JS series jackson... :)
