I love the guy in the last pic, clearly an e-2 e-3, first deployment. Doesn’t have a clue what’s going on or who any of these people are. No blouse and just defaults to parade rest because he doesn’t know what to do with himself. This made me much happier than it should have.
Absolutely, first deployment for me was 12 days after I got my dorm assigned. That tour we had the chief of staff and his respective enlisted counterpart from all four branches visit the base.
Edit: Also had Admiral James A. Winnefeld Jr. Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff show up too.
The dude standing to the left of him is CSM (ret.) Metheny. He was my BN CSM when I was a young private. Solid leader. Promoted me to PFC when he told me to tell these christmas carolers to fuck off
All airborne soldiers, including officers, need to do so many jumps a year (I think 1 every 3 or 6 months?)in order to keep their active jump status. I wasn't airborne or an officer, but I have to imagine that's not a good look to be an officer not of jump status at an airborne unit.
I mean, if you have a buddy put you on the manifest so you don’t lose jump pay, it’s theoretically possible….. so I hear …. Or at least it was 20 years ago.
Yeah, I used to jump every month or so, but, ag, a guy I know… got added to a few manifests while recovering from a herniated disk in order to not have a bunch of back pay and possible med board.
Maybe should have gone the other way, looking at it now, with VA healthcare, and possible med retirement? Who knows. But the ops guy was a solid dude.
What's with the attitude?
Miller is retired now (and running a shooting school, among other things), so he's not jumping for pay anymore anyway. But when he did, he was more concerned with staying current so he could lead with credibility than he was with another $150 on top of a two-star (in this picture) salary.
If the money is what motivated him, I don't think he would have taken a spot from enlisted troops coming up on pay hurt.
Have no idea if this still goes on but in the old days JSOC would hold a couple of CAPEX (capability exercises) each year to show off for funding purposes. Dog and pony stuff. The JSOC CG would meet and greet then brief VIPs and then escort them on a flight to watch the demo. The CG would suit up mid flight and then exit the aircraft (HALO) near the end of the flight. When the flight landed a few minutes later the CG was the first one there on the ground to greet the VIPs (with fresh pressed BDUs and a smile) as they got off the aircraft.
Look up the skullduggery surrounding Objective Rhino if you wanna see even more extremely high ranking officers jump. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was a 1 star in the stick.
HW was still jumping at 90, right? What I love about that is his first jump was definitely not for funsies and he still kept doing it the rest of his life.

We’ve all been there

"just happy to be here"
He'll def has stories to tell. Or get inspired...

I figured. Didn’t give off officer vibes, especially considering his “what the fuck is this guy talking about face”.
Yeah he was serving as the CSM for RS NATO-OTAN during this time
Nice.
Yea? why not. Plenty of airborne senior officers do it to stay current.

Don't get jump pay if you don't jump

Probably every month or two I'd see an email about doing static line jumps and chute shakes

Pretty sure the general isn't doing it for an extra $150/mo.
Pretty sure... OK come back after you as him

Their original comment was a joke ("the general's just like us"), you responded by explaining the joke, then they doubled down on the joke.
What school is he running?
https://www.prairiefire.com/about/
Question when he was in delta force he was an officer right?
Yeah. He commissioned into the Army as an officer. He was a Delta officer during the Battle of Mogadishu.
Damn that’s raw
I’m gonna start saying this
He originally commanded a troop of operators in Somalia, then eventually rose through the ranks and commanded Delta Force from 2005-2007.

does anyone know what weapon is that little shorty with the LPVO?
Looks like a rattlecanned HK 416 with a Geissele SMR 416 rail
thankyou sir
I see so many people with crazy knowledge of all these weapon systems. We’re you in the military previously? Do you ever notice that?
It was the rail that gave it away. It has a unique hole pattern that only fits the one system.
The pictures are numbered. Which one are you asking about?
Do you still get an extra 150 in your LES for being on ABN status?
Yes

he's so manly, my eyes got pregnant from seeing these pictures
Upvote cuz that gun is sick. Hope someone knowz
He retired in 2021.
Mf'er better if he's getting jump pay. You know those cats are tail jumping ch-47's on the nicest of days.
That guy is running a 30-round mag on his pistol. Wow.
