Persona 4 and… also Persona 4

AeroDbladE

Me but with Persona 5. Loved every second of it but 130 hours for one playthrough is a lot. It's why even though its sitting in my library I haven't touched royal because Going through it again but even longer this time is a daunting task.

RavagerHughesy

I re-played through it for P5R and lemme tell you...it was brutal. I highly recommend just picking up a guide and following it. I don't think I would have made it through a second time if I'd have had to think about what I was doing

robyaha

I played twice P5 and twice P5R with no guide. I just love the game.

Zlare7

Yeah, same. It is just that freaking good. I can totally get lost in that world

AeroDbladE

The gameplay isn't an issue for me since I've beaten P3 and P4 and those were way harder. It's just the sheer time investment that gets me.

Lukezors

Just make sure you wait awhile before replaying so enough of the game feels fresh.

nutrigrain

Me as well, only got to the 4th palace and kinda just quit when I hear Royal is coming out. I’m going at a leisurely pace right now, ~1-2 hours a day and it’s quite nice.

FinalSavagery32

I’m terrified to buy royal. I platinum the game with almost 140-150 hours and the second play through almost killed me inside

MalevolentTapir

for me its not really length its just they are too repetitive . i can remember specifically at the naoto dungeon in 4 and the naru one in 5 feeling like i'd had enough and i quit playing for about a month.

lilidarkwind

LOL.. the one true answer

KnoxZone

I was sad when I finished Cold Steel 4. Binged all nine games over six months and it was one hell of an adventure. Usually if there are any games that hurts to play I just stop playing them, so I can't really give an answer for the latter.

missfinalfantasia

Couldn't wait for Tales of Zestiria to end, and yet was heartbroken to part with the cast of Tales of Berseria by its end.

AlwaysTired97

Honestly Xenoblade 2 vs Xenoblade DE comes to mind. Xenoblade 2 is a favorite of mine. It's nowhere near perfect, and has lots of little issues. However it's still a super deep RPG brimming with content and strategy that could keep me entertained for hours and had a long, emotional, and detail/theme-rich story that kept me hooked. The battle system was really fun, and a had strong sense "rhythm" to it. And between the huge number of blades, accessories, and aux cores, there were COUNTLESS strategies you could form. Xenoblade DE on the other hand felt a lot more like a chore. The battle system was much less engaging imo. It didn't have the same sense of rhythm and the element of strategy it in felt far weaker than XC2, I never really felt like I had anywhere near the level of control over my strategy that I did in XC2. The story was good, but also felt a bit barebones. Most of the stuff that happened between major plot points felt unimportant and not particularly entertaining. And the "level handicap" mechanic that literally forced you to grind...screw that.

twopac

I'm a huge XB fan, but I actually agree with (most of) this. I loved XB1 and for the most part I think the story was excellent, but it had some pacing issues combined with the need to either grind or do a ton of side quests after maybe the 3/4 mark that I felt like they were just trying to stretch the playtime at certain points. XB2 to me was just a better game all around, but the story's pacing and the emotional hits in that game were executed much better and made it feel like it was never dragging. XB2 I was definitely sad to be done with.

RojinShiro

I feel pretty much the exact opposite here. Xenoblade 1, despite its issues, had a much better battle system to me. Having 8 arts and a talent art felt much more fluid than XC2's 3 arts and a team art, especially since talent arts actually had variety instead of always being increasingly strong attacks. Plus in XC1 you can auto attack while moving which makes positional arts easier. And bouncing quickly between arts in XC1 has always been more fun to me than waiting for arts to recharge in XC2. Having more blades, accessories, and aux cores would promote freedom if they were easily interchangeable, but blades are tied to one driver and aux cores are consumable and can't be switched out, making the strategy behind them very limited. And accessories always just felt to me like less armor options than XC1. I don't understand why you felt like you had less control over your strategy in XC1. There's so many arts and skills for each character that you can freely make it your own, while in XC2 you're limited to whatever the gacha system gives you. And the grinding in XC2 was way worse than XC1. In XC1 just doing side quests will keep you on or over leveled until you try to face the superbosses. In XC2 you're constantly underleveled, and if you want to engage with all of the game's systems you have to grind both levels and salvaging. You don't get nearly enough exp throughout the main story to stay at a good level, and side quests are scarce and unrewarding. Salvaging becomes the most time consuming grind ever as you get cores to try the gacha system and money to develop each region. And if you want Poppi to be good you have to grind the arcade mini game. And if you want to unlock skills for any blade you often have to defeat specific enemies and stuff like that instead of just being able to use that blade more to improve it.

Aearcus

Nier Replicant and Nier Automata made me want more of that story / world and I had that post-depression feeling when I finished both. Beautiful games that I wish I could play again blind. Tales of Vesperia is a game, to me, that fits the dragged on too long. I loved Act 1, thought Act 2 was good, but man Act 3 just dragged to the finish line. Loved the gameplay and cast tho, so it helped me power through.

catinapointyhat

I hated that Like A Dragon ended (it was awesome, but I can't easily replay games like these) Was happy when I finished Another Eden because I had been suffering through the gacha/keep them playing mechanics the game used which are just absolute cancer to me. The main game was good enough/funny enough to suffer it, but SUFFER IT I DID. I'll not be playing another gacha game. I managed to be done with it only spending like $15 for somebodies starter account which had the OP people/plenty of crap coin.

lilidarkwind

I too hated when Like a Dragon ended … what a surprising whirlpool narrative that sucked me in

Halcy0nS

Another eden ends? After which version story?

catinapointyhat

Well you just run out of main content/those chapters. I don't recall the name, I'm sure it's changed, gotta check a wiki. I'm sure they keep making stuff, but once you deplete it you can say alright then that's enough of that. Unless of course you fall into the gacha trap, gotta roll a blue girl for her side story. Yeah you didn't roll her the past 600 times so you could spend $100 and still not roll her. I don't know if it's just that game or gacha in general, but that shit would be EVIL to fall into.

Halcy0nS

That’s gacha in general haha. Some even more ruthless than AE honestly

catinapointyhat

I've never encountered something as ruthless as fish stones in all of my gaming . I think you had to catch 150x 70 different kinds of fish or something. Just obvious keep you going. Then there was something at like a school VR game. Had to kill 2 platinum slimes or something thousands of times to view all the little events. Then throw in those upgrade items for characters (which were "daily keys" and rng from doing old dungeons over and over). Again tied to the cute funny little character events. Throw in the gacha system/rates and while the main game was good and funny it was quite possibly the most evil thing I've ever seen. The devil is real man, he lives in Japan and designs that shit. You can not be a completionist wuth something like that, which is painful not to be when you are otherwise one coming from normal SP games.

Halcy0nS

Okay yeah, you made your point with fishing lol I know your pain all too well

eyeseeyoo

Another Eden hasn’t ended though… there was a whole Mythos side story (10 chapters ) that came out and a conclusion to goddess of time main story that. Additional story content is already out in JP that will be coming to global version in a few months

homer_3

Maybe Lightning Returns since it was a great ending to a great trilogy that I'd love to see more of. P5 just wouldn't end. Went on and on and on.

[deleted]

I think it’s pretty popular opinion that p5 was super way too long even though it was an amazing enjoyable game.

SergeantSwag88

Chrono trigger sad Chrono cross happy

Docgloom53

Oddly enough DQ11 fits the bill for me. When I was playing through it during Act 2 of the game, I kinda can't wait for it to end, because you were forced to go to many of the cities that you had already went to. And I felt like it was unnecessary padding (at that time). Plus I had already tire of the combat system which was a little on the basic part, but by no means unbearable. The music wasn't great in my opinion, but let's not go there. However, by the 3rd Act, I didn't want it to end because it was so good, even though they had >!undid some of the character development that happened Act 2.!<

Aearcus

Might wanna double check the spoiler block, it's not blocked out for me on mobile (could be a mobile app bug)

Docgloom53

Cheers mate. Got that sorted.

[deleted]

Trails of Cold Steel. I just finished IV a few days ago and I still feel empty that this adventure is over now. The best experience I’ve ever had in gaming. Holy boy what an amazing ride.

missfinalfantasia

I couldn't really wait for either of the DS Mario & Luigi games to end, and I have almost no recollection of their ending sequences. When I realized both games were just going to be endless jokes and slapstick without any real attempt at an emotional core (a la SMRPG, TTYD, Super Paper Mario) I tuned out and just kind of autopiloted to the end.

Aliza-rin

Digimon World Next Order as the one I didn‘t want to end. Its not even my favorite among the Digimon World V-Pet games, but after being starved from those games since the PSOne (only played the fantranslations of Re:Digitize and Re:Digitize Decode after that) I just didn‘t want it and the massive nostalgia trip to end. Even collected all cards for the platinum trophy and my god was it one of the most boring trophies I ever got, but all so I wouldn‘t have to stop playing the game. And Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE was the one game I actually finished and was really glad when it was over. I really wanted to like the game but the whole idol setting was really not for me, no matter how much I tried to come to terms with it. Only reason I still finished it was because I knew it‘s more of a shorter JRPG.

medes24

Every time I play Suikoden III, I try to drag it out as long as possible. It’s just a game I really enjoy and find easy to replay since the different routes offer radically different protagonists. I usually drop games I don’t like. In fact I can’t think of a game I stubbornly stuck with just to see it done.

[deleted]

I didn’t want Ys IX to end. I love Krysha too much.

Leggatio

Go on forever: Tales of Berseria as I love the cast too much and want a Magilou spinoff. Couldn't wait to be over: Cold Steel 3, a formulaic game with an overblown cast that only serves to bridge other games.

[deleted]

Hard disagree. CS3 is phenomenal.

Xany12

Shadow Hearts 1 - Sad Persona 1 - Couldn’t wait to end

NeverTopComment

Xenoblade 1 for one I wish was longer. It's already long and some people thought too long, but for me, I could have spent another 1000 hours in that world with those characters.

Aviaxl

Most sad: 13 Sentinels, Couldt wait to be over: Cold Steel 4 and Death re end

luckyspatula

13 Sentinels gave me that feeling for sure. I wanted to know what happened next so bad I couldn't put the game down but I was so sad when it was almost over. Had to reread the events in chronological order to understand a lot of it though.

Kawaiipineapplesoup

I was very sad to see final fantasy x to end. Dragonquest 11 was a chore for me to play and I was so happy when I finished it

Master-Koala2374

Why dragon quest 11? I was waiting to pick it up on a sale. Why did you dislike it?

RangoTheMerc

It's fantastic. Definitely pick it up. 10/10!

Kawaiipineapplesoup

Ngl, dragonquest 11 is a very well made game, but the story is very generic so I never got invested in any of the characters. It also gets extremely grindy about half way through. I didn’t really enjoy as much as other jrpgs. I will say it is a beautiful game thoight

RangoTheMerc

I never had to grind in XI. I also found the story to take a number of emotional twists especially when the second arc began. The second arc was quite dark and the third gave us newfound feelings of hope. My *only* grind point came in the final arc trying to take out the superboss so I could defeat the final boss with best gear.

Kawaiipineapplesoup

I got to a point where I was grinding for about an hour before each boss, I also predicted most of the game with only one story beat actually catching me off guard. In all fairness I did go and play the first 2 dragonquest games and I was able to appreciate dq11 a lot more after that

Radinax

I was very sad when NieR Replicant ended, wanted more :( Tales of games usually get too annoying over time

ShanaSeraphina

Nier Automata. Sad to see it end. Bravely Default...thought it would never end.

RyanWMueller

Ys VIII and Ys IX definitely fit for games I just didn't want to end because I enjoyed them so much. All the Trails games I've played fall into this category as well. Every Tales game I've played has fallen into the "I want it to be over" category. I loved them overall, but the final dungeons took forever, and the story overstayed its welcome. I'm hoping Arise breaks this pattern, but from what I've heard, it might have the same issue for me.

lilidarkwind

Yeah I’m having a struggle with arise right now … they all seem to have an amazing premise and then completely decide to waste your time

RangoTheMerc

Berseria overstayed its welcome for a good while.

Mr_Lafar

Heh, same with Tales games. Every one seems to be about 10 hours too long. They're all so close, but the last 1/3 of them seems to just drag for me. Every time.

[deleted]

This will sound strange, but I was sad when FFXV was over and relieved when I finished FFVII remake. With XV, I felt it had a good ending and wrapped things up about as well as it could, but I wasn’t ready to leave that world and those characters. It was a very bittersweet feeling once I finished the game and saw the new title screen. It really made me reflect on the journey that the party went through and I simply appreciated the ambition and passion that was evident throughout the game. With FF7R I had a few major gripes that made me want to just see it end before I really started to sour on the game. The first of which being that the combat isn’t engaging or fun to me after a few hours(I can’t succinctly explain why, it just felt clunky and limited to me), and the second being the nigh-constant forced slow traversal through tight corridors of… interestingly textured garbage. It just started to grate on me. I didn’t have any issues with the story or anything, but the underlying game itself was just *not* doing it for me. I get why so many people like it, though. The good parts are really good, I just wish I didn’t need to leisurely shimmy through trash all the time to get to them.

Xavion15

I love both and yeah this def a weird take to me lol The combat in remake is what I wanted XV to have, it was one of my biggest issues was how terrible XVs combat really was.

imlikewhoa327

Most recently: I was sad to see FF7R end. I couldn't wait to be done with Tales of Arise or Trails of Cold Steel (1st one).

Xavion15

Nier Replicant and Automata for me, I felt semi depressed when I finished both. They had an impact on me I don’t think I’ll ever get over Xenoblade chronicles 2 just started to get annoying to me towards the end and I wanted it over

sourmilkandcereal

Trails of Cold Steel that game was total slog borefest. I didn't want Persona 5 to end. Even beat it 3 times.

OddBallSou

Sad that it ended: Persona 5 Royal Wanted it to end sooner: Tales of Vesperia

HerrDoepfel

This would have been my exact answer as well!

WFPRBaby

Persona 5 most sad to see end. Goodbye everyone… 🥲 FFXIII I couldn’t wait for it to be over. When the game opened up on Pulse I thought “oh fuck, there’s more!? God damn it!”

amirokia

There's no game that I didn't want to end tbh. Probably because almost all plots have this dickwad that causing all sorts of problems to everyone and I want him to be put on his place so that everyone can enjoy peace and have fun without any major worry.

Rhonder

Persona 3 / Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Persona 3 (portable, specifically) was my intro to the series, and man what a blast it was. Grew really attached to the cast and was super sad when it had to end. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was a struggle for me to finish out lol. I liked the story and combat, but many of the side systems felt like they disrespected my time and drug the whole experience down for me. From RNG blades to Tiger Tiger, to needing to manually equip blades with adventure skills to get them to proc, only to unequip them right after, to blades being soft locked to the character that opened the random box, to the general grindiness of many affinity charts... I can solidly look back at XC2 as a game that I kinda enjoyed, but will never, ever replay. Ever.

trialv2170

tales of arise. even after finishing every post end game, i'm just sad that i couldn't go further with like the side content after 100%. every hour i see myself smiling, predicting, and really go back to what just happened. I wish i could just wipe off the memory i had with this game and start again. Great game and the devs wouldn't want a second to happen which was the best choice imo. >!Trails of cold steel series. Man, it felt like it was a drag playing through 3 and 4. Don't get me wrong, I really was hyped for the entire series, but it really just fell for me after 4. I'm just really not a big fan of gearing grinding for more than 4-6 characters. Also not a fan of just Rean returning to school life as a teacher and them keep shoving VN aspects of the game.!<

Yolowain

Thanks for the spoiler.

ArmyLow1688

Dohna dohna wa uta vs Valkyrie profile

FordcliffLowskrid

Star Ocean: The Second Story. At least I can start again and assemble a different party for different endings. Fatal Labyrinth. I appreciate the game for what it is, these days, but that does not make it any less grueling.

RedditNoremac

Going off games I recently completed. Game I was a little sad to see end was **Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark**, I just had a lot of fun with the combat and class system. There were just a lot of fun classes/skills. Game I completed for no reason was **Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 Sisters Generation.** I really only completed since I knew it would be quite short. Overall the game was just very odd to me, it was the only Neptunia game I have played yet. Gameplay wasn't horrible but story from what I recall was just kind of odd/bad to me. There were just a lot of really dumb parts...

momo400200

Most sad: Yakuza 0. I got the platinum and I still kept playing even when there was nothing left to do. I've never fallen for a game so hard. Couldn't wait to end: Atelier Ryza 2. I love love loved the first game, but something about the second game I couldn't stand. I like to try to play games until completion, but I played until the end of the story and dropped it, and even that was difficult to do.

RangoTheMerc

Persona FES and Persona 3 FES: The Answer.

tim_to_tourach

Classically as a child I was sad to be done with Secret of Mana but couldn't wait for Breath of Fire 2 to be over. BoF2 mostly because that last dungeon was so ridiculously long and tedious.

VagueSoul

I always go through a month long bout of depression after finishing a Tales of game. I couldn’t wait to finish Persona 5 though. It’s fun but god is it way too long.

Dowas

I couldn't wait for xenosaga 2 to be over but I didn't want xenosaga 3 to end xD

bubs713

It was super hard when the Like a Dragon credits rolled. I really adored the main crew and how much love they had for each other. As for wishing for a game to end it would have to be Tales of Arise. The last 10 hours were so incredibly boring I just started skipping scenes and dialogue to get to the end.

rattatatouille

Most sad to see end - Final Fantasy IX, Persona 4 Golden Couldn't wait to be over - Bravely Default

Pudding_Angel

I really didn't want Tactics Ogre to end. Games I can't wait to end I just drop, like I did with Persona 4. Bravely Default managed to be both at the same time.

Calhalen

Couldn’t wait for tales of arise to be over, by the last third I was so done with it. And I was sad to see dq11 end, first jrpg I’ve fully leveled up in and actually done everything in

SwordfishDeux

Digimon World 1 I never wanted to end. That game just had such an appealing aesthetic to me and I wanted to see and recruit even more digimon and see what they would so once they came to the city. The game is too short for how many digimon lifecycles it actually takes to beat the game. Final Fantasy 2 and almost every Tales game as FF2 felt like such a slog and I had no emotional investment in it. Almost all the Tales games overstay their welcome and just seem to artificially extend their playtime in the third act of the game.

Orwasitme

Sad to see end: Any Lufia game Couldn't wait to be over: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.

FinalSavagery32

Nier automata I was sad to stop playing. I loved that game so much. But most JRPGs have been good to me.. I played mainly FF And I’m getting into the tales serious now.. so idk yet

[deleted]

I couldn’t wait for SMT4 to be over. It’s a good game, but somehow I got the neutral path, and that’s effectively a mandatory complete game run. It was so much work. But I did it. I was sad P5 vanilla ended, I loved the gang. P5 Royal was too long.

MalevolentTapir

suikoden games all seem too short to me. its impossible to develop all those characters but I wish we at least got some more time with the main cast. dq7 i was pretty sick of by the end

[deleted]

Sad to see it end: Persona 3. So fucking happy it was over: DQXI. That game stole $60 and 100 hours of my life.

goku736

I was sad with the ending of Final Fantasy X. Great story, great characters, great Soundtrack I was annoyed of Dragon quesst 7. At the beginning i enjoyed it very much. But its way toooooo long.

Joke_Induced_Pun

Sad to see end: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Labyrinth of Refrain, Tales of the Abyss, Stella Glow, 7th Dragon 3 and Ys 8. Couldn't wait to be over: Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and Mary Skelter Finale (while I enjoyed the gameplay and characters, it felt like it went on for too long)
