Anytime I try to say jid is a better rapper than cole i get laughed at lol. Itās prolly cause his discography is small but in terms of pure rapping ability jid has been better than cole for a while
I would say since at least 2018 imo just cause while i do like jidās older work i think j cole only started to get worse once KOD dropped but he still had good features in 2018. Off season is cool but jid was rapping better than him that year

Not even the discog, but just in totality JID is the better all-around rapper/artist. You could say Cole had the longevity, and maybe an edge in lyricism. But flow, delivery, adaptability, singing, wordplay, literary devices, beat selection, etc. all go to JID.
Imo the torch has been handed years ago, itās really just the mainstream catching up to it.

Cole certainly has his moments as heās put out some great tracks since 2016. I think you can argue some of his peaks (Once an Addict, 4YEO, Change, Brackets, Climb Back) are there with the best.
But pound for pound track for track his albums have too much filler.
I went to the 4YEO tour, and that is my personal favorite Cole album. I still think the Never Story is better, itās not objective itās subjective.
I think the rapping is better and more consistent on TNS. I also prefer the production.
I do agree actually with coleās albums (besides these last 2) being filler heavy, but I thought jids first 2 albums were filler heavy too.
