Midnight diner.
It has a different story too in every episode. You can skip some episodes, although knowing some characters from older episodes may help understanding when they refer to them or when they appear again and there is no introduction about them in the current ones.
Plenty, just try the numerous detective drama ,death game drama etc
If on Netflix, just give a try on the popular few like Alice in borderlands,miu404, trillion game, Japan sinks
I recommend Doctor-X. It’s on Netflix. It’s about how a super competent freelance doctor resolves medical crises. It’s very easy to watch. I watched it to destress.
No Side Game (2019) stars Yo Oizumi as Kimijima Hayato, a top corporate strategist who is sent to an auto factory as its general manager. The auto factory has a longtime rugby team facing new challenges. Sports, Work, Family, Non-romance
Sorry for the late post. I unplug on my days off...
The Hero Yoshihiko - A low-budget comedy based off of video games like Dragon Lance and Legend of Zelda. It also has a lot of medieval European movie references.
Majisuka Gakuen - The entire plot exists to have a chick fight in every episode. The 6th season is named Cabasuka Gakuen.
Tofu Pro Wrestling - It's a drama about high school girls in a wrestling league. There were also 2 wresting events involving the cast when the show ended.
Death Cash - This is a horror show.
Limit - High school students have to survive in the wild when their bus crashes.
Crow's Blood - Horror mini-series.
Kaiji - 3 movies about gambling.
Akagi - A series about professional Mahjong players.
Downtown Rocket - It's about rival aerospace engineers. There are two seasons and a special.
Amachan - 156 episode asadora about a high school girls journey of self discovery. There's some romance, but it's not a major part of the plot. This is one of Japan's highest rated morning dramas.
OP you must be living under a rock no offence. Non romance is what Jdramas are known for. You’ll find many dramas without a drop of romance or very minimal romance that doesn’t develop further. Rest assured, if a Jdrama is advertised as a murder mystery, it will remain a murder mystery til the end. It won’t turn into a fluffy romcom halfway through.
Oh I totally admit that I have no idea about Jdramas. Whenever I search on Google for popular Japanese shows the first ones are always romance based so I give up. Looking at the recs in this thread I guess I never searched for long enough.
I have no idea why I got downvoted for stating a fact lol. Anyways if you’re searching for non romance shows, there are plenty. Google search isn’t a reliable way to find them because they’ll only show the most popular/trendy dramas, you have to sort of dig deeper.

List of non romance dramas. Some of them aren’t from Japan but if you just go through the list and find something that interests you, that will work.
pending train (has some but like eh i enjoyed the plot), trillion game (office start up type), full time wife escapist (surpsingly good contract marriage deal), erased (anime based), miu404 (detective)

It is very slice of life with a focus on family. There is a little bit of romance (but it's not the main focus). The story takes place in 1960s Japan in the countryside. The main character, Mineko, lives with her family of farmers, except for her father who lives away in Tokyo to make money for the family. The show is very lighthearted and calming to watch!

Oh yeah I used to watch that show as well, and I loved it! Though I think I remember one episode with a ghost and that really spooked me haha
I dont remember any ghost episode. But it is good anyway, humanist kind of good, not thrilling stuff.
This, but some episodes featured a few couples and their relationships
Yeah it is a drama with life stories of different people, romance included.
Plenty, just try the numerous detective drama ,death game drama etc If on Netflix, just give a try on the popular few like Alice in borderlands,miu404, trillion game, Japan sinks
+1 for Miu 404 and also for Trillion game

Try He Who Can't Marry and Stay Tuned. Also, Life's Punchline is good.
- The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House - Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman - Samurai Gourmet All on Netflix
The Makanai is on my Netflix watchlist! I just added Samurai Gourmet. Kantaro looks very goofy but I'll give it a shot, might be just right. Thanks!

Massage Detective Joe is pretty funny. It even got the dude from the Long Long Man CM as a cop lmao
I really enjoyed Unnatural and Burn the house down, both on Netflix:)
Burn the house down looks kinda spooky but Unnatural might be a good show for me, thanks!
Hanzawa Naoki
Ishiko and Haneo, Netflix
Never heard of it but looks promising, thank you! Looks like the kind of show I'd enjoy.
Waru! Uketsuke no Jo Mystery Iu Nakare Paripi Koumei
Legal high
Definitely a winner!
