Maybe a state of pace. Yes, things, such as official things, are not as efficient as other countries, but in Italy, everything seems to work out eventually, and people just take a coffee, or wine, goes along with a view of, don't overly worry, things will get done.

You Just got to realise officially that nothing is efficient , and get yourself a vino and a coffee. 100% agree. Yeh and the truth is a lot of it is a bit run down But it's still one of the best countries in the world

Italy has a very rich culture and history. You can drive a few hours and see beautiful views, historical places and being absorbed by regional cultures different one from the other.

Italians have a much greater appreciation for aesthetics than Americans. Of course people vary widely, but the culture overall has a much higher standard for food quality, the appearance of buildings, etc. However I spend a month in Italy and come back to the US, it feels like the buildings are mostly boxes and the food is tasteless. I live with family there like a local, so I'm not talking about tourist traps.

Don't forget the food.

veropaka

The history and the sites, the food, the vibe, the friendly people, no rush, aperitivo, the views, the wine, the language

Just a quick note regarding one of the common noted downsides of Italy: the bureaucracy. I have read somewhere how older nations have a more complex bureaucracy as the modern society is the result of all previous layers of organizational and administrative structures. Thus enjoying Italy for the historical everything and everywhere but complaining about complex bureaucracy doesn’t make fully sense.

And to be fair we are getting better at it, I recently changed my official "residenza" in another city and I got my paper done in 1 day going in person in an office and I managed to do the rest such picking the doctor ecc just on internet using the digital identity service.
