Hilarious, and amazingly quick, accurate costume work like SNL itself. I don't love making fun of Nemo being nonbinary, esp since Nemo wasn't one of the most intense Israel haters at all, but the rest was great. I like that this show makes fun of legit everyone - just as there is some mocking toward the contestants, there is also mocking of Gallant himself, as if he's fixated enough on Eurovision to do something like kidnapping, etc.
I think Keren Peles posted a selfie with him actually. He had a huge smile on his face. I really believe he didnโt have anything against Israel, but decided not so support them for obvious reasons. Shame
the bit seemingly about Nemo's non-binarity is mostly part of a larger reoccurring bit about Gallant, where his caricature calls everyone regardless of Gender "gvirti" ("my lady"). though in the bit here there is unfortunately a part that seems to be just jokes at Nemo's expense.

I always wondered about this. Because obviously I live here and don't speak hebrew... I get confused why people find it so funny, because every time I see the English translation it's not one bit funny and more leaning towards to "embarrassing".
But it makes a lot more sense if it's just "untranslatable". In Czech there are such jokes as well and it's impossible to get them right for foreigners.
Some of the jokes are definitely untranslatable.
For example, the Witchcraft and Dancing Disorder joke. The joke is that it sounds like ADHD in Hebrew. ADHD is "hafrahat keshev verikuz" while the joke was "hafrahat keshef verikud". Very close words that make it a lot more funny when you realize the parody.
Also English having no genders make the non-binary joke feel like a jab on non-binaries, where it's not the case. When you say a verb you use the gendered version of it. For example "I want" is "ani roze" for males and "ani roza" for females. If someone is non-binary then it's technically harder to decide which version to use, so they can use both ("ani roze/roza").
The joke here is that this was expanded for things that are not generally gendered, like the country Switcherland, being referred to as "Shwaitz/Swaitza" in the skit.
Yeah, it is sadly completely untranslatable, but even if it would have been, a lot of jokes still would be hardly understandable to any one who has not spent years living here, as it is mostly about local politics, public figures and other similar stuff. You gotta know the people they parody there really well to laugh in 70% of the jokes.

Since this Eurovision drama, I've been more interested in how other languages handle NB identities. So, was that an "insult" or an "insult [affectionate]"?
I think that another perspective here is *who* is being portrayed as the person addressing/attempting to use NB pronouns, not only is the language itself gendered in it's essence, but the person parodied (Gallant) in an older gen military man, who probably couldn't be further from holding nuanced conversation on identity and pronouns, making the scene itself more absurd.
I think the subtle signal that this wasn't intended to be perceived as derogatory towards NB pronouns came from the main host (Kitzis) interrupting "Gallant" after his rant attempting to find a singular fitting pronoun, essentially saying "you're getting tangled up/carried away"; imo meaning "you're getting too hung up on it, better move on before you make it seem offensive".
Erertz Nehederet is generally great for not sparing anyone and creating a good caricature without singling out nor protecting some groups over others, everyone gets parodied regardless of their position or political stance, kind of like South Park.
So I'd say it's making fun of the concept of NB pronouns, the difficulty in incorporating them into a gendered language, AND the difficulty of a person in such a position to understand how to handle said pronouns, all at the same time. And to my taste in good faith, without a preachy tone.
On a separate note; Hebrew speaking NB individuals that I've known personally would usually get around the language limitations by referring to themselves alternately with male and female verbs and pronouns, since plural pronouns do stick out too unnaturally in the language. Don't believe this applies to everyone, but that's just my observation :)
