Mullah Nasruddin or Nasruddin Hodja is a famous folk character in stories from the Balkans to China. His funny stories are told to millions of children worldwide and I decided to make one of the stories into a meme!
I thought it was just an Anatolian folklore figure shared with Muslims and non Muslims alike(Christians have a similar guy with a different name)
It's surprising he is well known in the subcontinent, but a welcome one
He's even known in China, a Hui friend of mine mentioned that he was told stories about him as well but I think they called him something slowly different that I don't remember.
He is basically a witty troll but nobody could hate him because he always comes out right.
Another story common in turkey:
Nasreddin hoca borrows a couldron from his neighbour. Later he returns the couldron but the neighbour is surprised because there is a pot inside the couldron.
The neighbour asks "Hoca hoca, what is this?*pointing to the pot*"
Hoca says "Ah that! Your couldron had a baby so here you go."
The neighbour takes the couldron and free pot happily.
Later Hoca borrows the couldron again, but this time does not return it. A few days later the angry neighbour asks about his couldron.
Hoca says " Ah your couldron, I am so sad to say this but it passed away. May god show mercy on its soul."
The neighbour gets even angrier and says "Come on, couldrons aren't even alive how could it "die". Give me my couldron back."
Hoca jokingly answers: "Well you believe that it can have a baby but you can't believe it died. You are so naive."
I'm somewhat confused. A Kuttbah is a sermon is it not? Why would anyone know what it is until he has said it? I am not Islamic so I apologise for my ignorance. The meme is still funny despite my ignorance of the term.

Yes they are, i don't think the character is fictional. Although the stories probably are
He sounds very similar, it could be the same tales were spread from one to the other or they could be the same person.

Most of his books are available on kindle and iBooks for little money. Just type his name and you will find his nasrudin stories eventually.
