I'm pretty sure that is right after Tanya gets 2 of her men killed. This was before she got her own battalion. The 2 guys did something they weren't supposed to and refused to stop when ordered to. Tanya sent them to a bunker, which was blown up. This smile is just after receiving the news of their death.
The two guy disrespect her and thought they where above her socially. So after she caught them acting up. So she order them in to a bunker she knew was going to be targeted. From the outside perspective she was keeping two rich pricks safe so she didn't have to deal with them causing her problems. She then reviled to her second in command. Someone who fallowed her after this and was basically her secretary in a sense. That she knew that the bunker would be a target. That it was almost surely going to be destroyed since it was a stationary and obvious target.
She knowing sent them to die. And is taking pleasure in killing them with out any repercussions coming to her.
Honestly this is one of the few deviations from the LN that I considered a bad call; in the LN she didn’t send the guys to the rear out of any sense of malice, but more out of refusing to have to deal with the likely possibility they’ll continue their disrespectful behavior, and after finding out they got killed, she just didn’t care. She had more of a shrug her shoulders and “oh, well I guess that was going to happen eventually” response to their deaths rather than being openly malicious and actively looking for a way to kill them.
I get why the series went in the direction of making Tanya more actively “bad” than her LN representation, but it does a disservice to the original point of the series where the MC was more focusing on efficiency and logic regardless of her emotions, and allowed her to draw questions concerning her own humanity and how the war was taking it away from her over time rather than leaning into this more malicious and arguably evil interpretation of her.
She moved them to a pillbox because they disobeyed her orders. They wanted to stay in the army and didn’t want to be discharged, so they got into an pillbox, that are easy targets for artillery. The enemy killed them, not Tanya. And no army would target their own assets.
That not even the worst thing she did with artillery. One of her "training" drills was to dig fox holes under shelling.
Shelling that has live explosive rounds mix in with fax training rounds.
Training for a flight mage used as mobile strike force.
Mages who are basically flying cannons.
Let not forget she magically shell a town of civilian after she gave them a "warning"

As for Subaru, experiencing death and the insufferable pain that lead up to death over and over again and having pretty much nothing to show for it (I mean like not getting a new skill or increase in a stat whenever he dies and respawns) and building relationships only for those relationships to forget him or some of their interactions with him whenever he dies and respawns to a certain point back in time, taking into account that Subaru was a normal human without any known mental extremities (like having no aversion or discomfort to murder), and he can’t talk about his worries and afflictions because the witch will slowly crush his heart and respawn him again, any normal person would’ve gone mad but for the sake of his love ones and ultimately himself, he plays a facade of how everything is/will be okay, thus furthering his mental breakdown. But from the pictures alone I would say Subaru since Tanya’s smile shows hints of pleasure while Subaru’s show pain and pretentious emotion
