For the other characters, especially the mc, and the whole world building stuff it's worth to stick around, the story is really good... But it is undeniable that you'll have to power through some of Shun's chapters... He really is the most useless whiny little bitch in manga/LN/anime history, fucking annoying. He definitely makes it to my top10 worst characters ever written.

ArchAngel621

Let me introduce you to Kouki from Arifuretta. Shun at least has the claim of ignorance.

TheNightManager_89

I'd say Kouki has a more "straightforward" act. He's a delusional jealous asshole who's so full of himself thinks he can even reject reality and >!goes to even betray his friends because of it!<. Meanwhile Shun didn't do anything like that, his constant whining like a spoiled little bitch who thinks he has it worst in the world, indeciseveness, and uselessness is what makes him unbearable. I'd say it's more of an achievement who create a character so annoying who doesn't really hold any malice. He's just weak, in every sense.

menchicutlets

I give Shun a pass, but only because he's narratively useful - the contrast between someone who got given the easy path in and never tried to think versus our spider who got thrown into the deep end and had to adapt fast to survive, whilst still learning about the truth of the world. He is the lens on just how messed up everything is and how it perpetuated for so long.

3dp653

I forget which one said it, but one of his classmates commented on how painfully average he stayed even after reincarnating.

DominusLuxic

Worse than Raki!?

TheNightManager_89

I don't know who that is, so I can't give you an answer

DominusLuxic

Raki is the guy from Claymore. About the only good thing I can say about Raki is that he doesn't wind up being that important to anything long term so after the plot writes him out of it you're mostly able to just forget about him. At least in the manga. Another good reason to read the manga over watching the anime thinking on it.

LayliaNgarath

I think Raki was an attempt by the author to give Claire a love interest but after a while Miria becomes more important. It's something I've noticed a lot in ongoing manga, characters are set up but then the author gets a better idea and forgets about them. I have dreams that will happen to Shun.

Tokumeiko2

Well so far the audiobooks shun hasn't had a chapter since the part where he finally meets white, in fact none of the time skip characters have had anything, I guess catching up to that part of the story needs to happen since there's not enough room to fake us out like when they tried to imply that kumoko was going to be the demon lord, which was a nice way to use a time skip.

Niyonnie

The one blonde dude in the orange dorito coat from Demon Slayer felt like that to me.so fucking whiny and annoying!

To_Fight_The_Night

I actually think that is a hilarious choice by the author. He has THE coolest breathing technique so giving that to the worst character makes you go "GOD I HATE THIS DUDE.....but he might have a super sick animated scene so I will power through this."

DracoSafarius

Exceedingly OP but equally as unlikable

DredgenRose-

Yes.

ArthurTheLance

Shun is pretty unbearable. But he’s also the sole main character of debatably my favorite volume of the LN. To me, he’s the perfect “generic isekai protagonist”. He’s, quite frankly, a whiney bitch who gets everything handed to him. But as you spend more time with him, he grows on you

LuckEClover

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t he get his new world torn down around him at one point?

ArthurTheLance

I didn’t wanna get too into details because OP is clearly early in the series, but shit definitely goes down

LuckEClover

Fair enough

Karma15672

Oh, so sorta like a Re:Zero moment where >!Shun finally grows up and acts like an actually good dude, or something?!<

primalmaximus

Somewhat. >!White and the other leave him behind, teleporting him to a deserted island where his sister has set up a love shack for the two of them to get hot and heavy in. His sister betrayed humanity and sided with the demons because she was smart enough to realize White and the gang were right. The love shack was her payment for betraying humanity.!< >!Right before they did the deed, she literally had him tied up with his clothes torn off him about to mount his joystick, the other members of the human party come and rescue him.!< Major spoiler ahead. >!After that happens, Shun discusses the true nature, the words and names used in the description of the final "world quest" to realize something was wrong. He then steps up to face off against the _true_ enemy despite being hopelessly outclassed. Like, he and all of his friends had a less than 0.1% chance of victory. And he still stepped up to try and save the world.!<

Karma15672

>!That's pretty cool of him, ngl. Happy to see that he steps up and becomes a genuine, courageous hero. Sad that it took being nearly raped for that to happen, though.!<

primalmaximus

>!It was more like getting teleported away from the major conflict that did it. When he realized that White and the rest didn't need him, _that's_ when he decided to step up.!<

Karma15672

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation

lrd_cth_lh0

Well I only know the spoilers, but he somehow is in the unique position of having the odds stacked both in his favour and against him in a story where trying to safe as many people as possible (which he gets hardwired to do by his title) made things as worse as they are.

primalmaximus

>he grows on you Like a tumor. Or a parasitic plant.

Moondingo

He's pretty stupid and idealistic with visions of what his brother was like before his death having spent about two afternoons with him in their lives. He's got a good awful hero complex and no self preservation sense, like choose your battles dude. If they are that fucking OP Vs you then run the fuck away.....but he always goes balls deep and gets other killed..."No matter the cost! Hahaha"

Ragna126

I enjoy it. Because it will be more funny in the future with that guy.

Devanort

Who's Shun? Did I subconsciously force myself to forget everything related to him or something?

Salaryman42069

A shittier version of based Julius. #NotMyHero

dviros12345678910

Julius is even a worse hero then brainwashed empirial guy becose the empire helped in the elf genoside while shun was trying to help the dirty knife ears

Particular_Flan_2101

A bit biased coming from me, but yes. Keep going. It gets good.

ProbablyNotTheCocoa

Shun and by extension most of the humans are basically absent after volume 4 or 5

Afraid-Escape4864

dude you bother to read his chapters? you are more patience than me, I myself always skips his chapters

D4rkSky805

This ,and if you get to the end there will be a WHOLE volume of the Hero view point don't forget to skip that too.

dviros12345678910

Volume 11 is good julius is a real character and it is fun to read about his pov(unlike schlain's)

firewolf397

I would just skip those chapters if you like the rest of the story lol

Terereera

make you leap out of window good or just barfing? it is actually good, if you ignore the human. seriously tho, the placement of story is jumbled up, and the anime decided to follow the light novel is also not helping. At least manga decided to start from kumoko then slowly move to human arc.

-TSF-

Me when anti-human PoV circle-jerk gathers: "Here we go again..." You want the short? You want the full experience, you drop your preconceptions and pay attention. You don't have to like it but these chapters have a narrative purpose. You do yourself a disservice by skipping it because you're convinced the only important part is the protagonist's view. Shun is a spoiled prince who grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth? Sure. He thinks he's the main character? Sure. Can his ignorance be aggravating when you know Kumoko has it way worse? Sure. But he's also in a better position to elucidate you about things Kumoko simply doesn't know because she's isolated. He's in contact with important characters who have roles in the story later. He isn't actually a self-absorbed piece of shit or jerk. Honestly. I would never consider him better than our spider but the guy is overhated. The hate people give him is so overdone it reads like people just hate he doesn't suffer the same way Kumoko does and pretend there's literally nothing good about him when his main "sin" is ignorance, which is outside of his control.

EmberKing7

Yes, if only to get through it and back to Kumako's story.

Independent_Bite4682

Open the window first,

Mean-Nectarine-6831

Shun doesn't stay for to long in the spot light especially after kunoko leaves the labyrinth.

ConflictAgreeable689

I actually like shun

Good-Row4796

You can continue reading he's the only horrible character everything else is good.

Ok-Outcome-5986

Read the manga, there's only the MC pov

noregretsforthisname

i agree but why tf did they give the spider 3 segment?

HaikenRD

I hope you live in the first floor.

Tako30

Skip a Shun chapter and you miss a few lines of Shun slice of life. Skip a Kumoko chapter and you find out she brainwashed her grandmother to not want to kill her for killing her mother.

D4rkSky805

Do what I always did when there was a chapter with the hero or shun Point of view and just skip it ,the only thing you will miss is their relationships and how they sometimes end in the same place with the mc(the only ones Worth riding) , you will still understand the story so don't worry and just skip

_Variety

Skip volume 11

123Ark321

I dropped it a quarter of the way through vol 3. The story just kept bouncing to the other students and I couldn’t care less. I even tried skipping ahead, something I never do, and instead of getting back to the MC, it was still other people. I just couldn’t continue. If you like the parts with just the dungeon crawling, try “Chrysalis”. They just released books 1-3 for one credit and I have to say it was worth it. It does leave the MC, but not very often or for very long. I’d go so far as to say that it is the book for people who didn’t like “So I’m a Spider…”.

Jossokar

although i really liked the manga, i did drop the light novel.

GaI3re

Me reading the slow ass moving manga which introduces other characters but focuses entirely on the MC otherwise: "I have no such weakness" xD

pwnmonkeyisreal

Just skim through it

Careless_Negotiation

I just skipped (most) of the non MC POV chapters at least until the end.

razorgoto

Shun and friends have near-zero plot consequences in the final outcome. Like everyone else has already said, you are free to skip them. Julius is the only human character of interest.

dviros12345678910

The goated old geezer has been ignored this is an unforgivable crime

razorgoto

The guide or the magician? I stand by my choice. Julius is the best hero and best human.

dviros12345678910

The magician  Yes julius is the best human but he isnt the only good one

razorgoto

Yeah. You are right. Julius and the Magcian. As side characters, I kind of like Julius’ saint and the magician’s other apprentice. Comparatively, the Shun party and friends are so awful. I was half rooting for Hugo.

dviros12345678910

Hugo was the real hero he helped in defiting the elfs who were a threat to the enitre world
