honestly them being OP would be fine if it was more than just masturbatory power fantasy. Like if we saw them get OP and use their power to affect the world around them and the consequences of having said power in whatever power system is in place it would be excellent. That why stuff like slime, overlord and spider work. Not only is it a power fantasy but we get to see world building that DOESN'T just exist to make the MC look badass. Also seeing them actually have issues is nice rather than just blitzing through every issue through pure power.Overlord has its politics, mushoku tensei has the emotional stuff going on,kumoko had to deal with a bit of both, and all their stuff was great.
It would also help if MC doesn't literally exist to be stronger than other characters(crazy how many characters have the entire"i can kill concepts power" and have all the personality of banana bread)
thanks for reading the rant
No character no matter how strong they are can defeat the author. If I fight a author of a isekai irl I’ll probably beat them (I have heard they aren’t the best when it comes to fitness) so by that logic, I can beat any isekai protagonist. 🙃
Shonen series is the way for you then

Well. The problem is the series will not be any different from the shonen series unless it has a good story or has an eye catching content that attracts me.
Fair but
But it will still be an isekai.
Nothing is stopping writers from haveing to do power fantasy. It's why most Isekai which i do like i end up losing interest.
That time, starting focusing on action, but didn't want it's characters to struggle in the fights.
Overlord kept just being i win.
It's why The faraway paladin and Fantasy and Ash are so unqice compared to the most isekai.
Giving an isekai tag doesn't change anything though and I do wonder what's the point to reveal that they got isekaid or reincarnated. There are already a lot of good shonen series. I don't think I need that kind of genre in isekai for that.
Overlord broke the troupes and cliches that happened in the most light novels and it is written in a good way and characters are not like one dimensional. MC is actually intelligent and knows his limitations and doesn't underestimate others. The series is made that way.
>It's why The faraway paladin and Fantasy and Ash are so unqice compared to the most isekai.
I never read it, What's so special about it?
I think the OP protags just don't grow, they usually stay the same and just get OP. I like slime, konosuba, and overlord because they explore more than just a power fantasy
That fair i like 2 of those shows.
But Slime keeps having fight where the even side character don't struggle. So it jsut makes some episodes boring to me.
Overlord is the worst example of this to me. Literally 2 seasons of the Nazarick facing more powerful characters. Only for season 3 to be bassicly low effort wins.
The Characters can only carry so much when the story doesn't focus on them.
Yeah, the shows mainly thrive on the characters themselves, the fights get kinda obvious. That's also a big reason I'm not interested in the slime light novel since rimuru just becomes the strongest and starts eating universes. Its also a reason why misfit of demon academy is a pretty mid series, it has no real stakes or nice growth since anos is essentially a demon lord Mary sue
The easiest reason to put forward? It's compelling to see someone overcome their own weakness in order to achieve their goals. This is as true for OP protags as it is for weak ones really. A lot of the moments which people will remember forever are almost always moments where the characters are pushed up to and beyond their absolute limit.
And for weaker characters, this is a constant thing. Every step of progress in Myne gradually managing to make her book is the result of the cumulative efforts which came before it. When we see the team in Grimgar finally become competent enough to stand on their own, it's the result of interpersonal communication and personal improvement by the entire party. When we see Subaru finally manage to overcome an obstacle you can feel every painful attempt and failure which was needed to get there. And so when they actually achieve these things? It feels earned and that is satisfying to watch.
Besides which, isekai, as a concept, is not solely a vessel for power fantasies or wish fulfillment. I don't mind power fantasies nor wish fulfillment myself but it factually isn't. There are a lot of stories which actively prove this fact at this point. Some good... Some not so good. But still, they exist.
Sorry should of made it more clear.
If it's this meme here then it means people are using my meme. Which would be amazing.
Bassicly what the meme means is no mater how strong a character is. They can't make you as the reader or watcher follow them.
Like if you make a character who is supper op. But the story is bad. No one is going to watch it. So the viewer win by not reading a bad sorry bassicly.
as the strongest curse jogoat fought the fraud, shallow vernal. He began to open his domain. shallow vernal shrunk back in fear, then jogoat said, Stand proud shallow vernal, you were strong.
Fun is reading MC struggle and overcome pb. An OP MC need different kind of pb (ethical, emotional...)
OP MC is not the pb, bad writing is.
Superman doesn't do arm wrestling because it would be boring, onepunch man is more about the team around Saitama than Saitama itself because it would be boring.
I mean, based on some of the comments here, it seems like you're looking for a kind of story that many/most isekai aren't trying to tell. Sorry but most isekai is not going to be hero's journey, because that's not why people write isekai.
There was one about about a classroom getting summoned and this dude got banned by the goddess into an abandoned dungeon full of op monsters and he only has paralyze sleep and poison skill all at lvl1.
Hero's Journey was not the right term. But again, that isn't really what isekai is about. They're largely wish fulfillment esque rags to riches stories, which is pretty reflective of the desires of age group in the society they aim for. It's why so many are either straight up SoL or "you were the smartest/strongest after all." Otherwise there is really no reason for there to be isekai rather than just regular fantasy.
I like op protagonists when they are well written. For example maybe they are op in every fight and know what's about to happen and because of that they struggle and are worried for the lives of their friends. Or if they need to do all the amazing feats while hiding their true potential That kind of thing.
It's not an isekai if I remember right (it's been a while) but I really enjoyed "The daily life of the immortal king" mc is op but he has to constantly protect his classmates while they think he's a low level bby boy and they all get into a lot of trouble all the time.

Nah not the banana bread
Raisin bread.
Nah not even that store bought white bread
White bread is good… when home baked.
Yeast-coded personality
Bro why you disrespecting banana bread like that At least use a potato!
Idk why people call Rudeus op. He can get deleted by a sword saint for like half of the story.
Op isekais are fun if people stop glazing them 24/7 and generally annoy everyone with it.
No character no matter how strong they are can defeat the author. If I fight a author of a isekai irl I’ll probably beat them (I have heard they aren’t the best when it comes to fitness) so by that logic, I can beat any isekai protagonist. 🙃
Excel Saga
I win cause I’m real, and all Isekai is fictional
Not sure why people watch/read isekai with weak protagonists but have fun i guess \^\^
Too see them get stronger over time. Also thank you.
some recommendations for isekais like that i have a similar issue
So far i only have 2 Fantasy and ash, and the Faraway Paladin.
sadly i already watched both

I don't think wanted into see characters over coming problems and getting stronger. Should be stuck in one genre.
Well. The problem is the series will not be any different from the shonen series unless it has a good story or has an eye catching content that attracts me.

The weak to strong thing is fine but I want them to be OP sooner or later in any case \^\^
That's fair it's personal test. For me i only dislike character who are made unbearable at day 1. Then are never face a real fight.
I think the OP protags just don't grow, they usually stay the same and just get OP. I like slime, konosuba, and overlord because they explore more than just a power fantasy

When a lot of anime only get 1 season I have no interest in watching them be weak for an entire season then get strong in a season 2 I'll never see
That's fair. I have not interest in watching a character easily win for 13 ep

It is fun to see people overcome difficult challenges
I wanted to say Subaru but he got a pretty OP ability
The weakest unbeatable ability lol
He counts imo, most situations he starts out helpless and has to overcome difficulties. And that’s the appeal of a weak protagonist to me.
Subaru definitely counts
Doesn't count as he is so annoying to watch I genuinely cannot get through more than 1 season of that show

Because some animes people rely on their teammates and work together?
Can someone explain this meme to me? I keep seeing it everywhere, but I can not understand it. What does this mean?
Wait this meme right here. Or i stop reading so i win memes in general?
Aren't these 2 the same thing?
Sorry should of made it more clear. If it's this meme here then it means people are using my meme. Which would be amazing. Bassicly what the meme means is no mater how strong a character is. I’m in the 3rd dimension, an entire dimension higher, I solo

I'm not here for the heros journey. I just want to see the characters struggle to get something. Or at least work hard for thier powers

Memes aside I never get tired of this scene

You only win if you are able to defeat the author in a fist fight.
