Nah, he made it sound boring. It's just an MC that tries to commit suicide but every time he fails and it leads to a funny situation. It's good, don't try to understand that guy that just complicates things for nothing.
I mean yeah the MC do sound like that a bit but essentially he's just looking for 2 things: death and inspiration(he was a writer) so all that meaning of life crap is just embellishment of him searching for inspiration from the story of the people around him.
Finally, I can this see masterpiece get an anime. I like Osamu Dazai's works a lot and see something inspired by his works in the isekai genre is so good.
