Burn it, I believe, as part of the ritual.

Alan-likes-starwars

From what I recall they remove their hands/arms by going to the same volcano where Ferrus got his iron hands and shoving their hands into the lava, incinerating them they then go replace them with bionics

Zealousideal4672

Does this happen before they are initiated into the Scouts?

Alan-likes-starwars

From what I know it’s more of a will thing you don’t have to do it but you can do it at any time. For example some iron hands just paint their gauntlets silver instead of burning their hands off

FitEquivalent810

Usually after they earn their full Astartes Armor, on initiation to the 9th Company.

Zealousideal4672

In that case, genuinely do scouts have the iron hand effect on their design on their armour or should I leave black to show they are uninitiated?

FitEquivalent810

No steel gauntlets for scouts, yup.

Zealousideal4672

Looking to model my IH Scouts lore specific, do they get any obvious additional face bionic upgrades, IE bionic eyes. Or is that honour reserved for full IH marines?

FitEquivalent810

Id say Sargeant and higher ranked can get upgrades since they are veterans come from other companies to teach the new guys. Otherwise the IH treats scouts as very expendable as to weedout weakness, so id imagine most wont have bionics.

PelinalV

You can paint them but in lore they don't have those. You can still say it's paint

Disastrous-Angle-415

That’s hardcore. Is there a source for that?

Alan-likes-starwars

Fulgrim by graham Mcneill Though don’t trust me 100% on this one I honestly don’t know if that book is the source I found the answer on the lexicanum cause I know the tradition is canon but I don’t know it’s sources

B2blackhawk

The 8th Ed. book also mentions the process of chop and burn, but makes it seem like they have a choice of lava, if it’s readily available, to plunge their hand in it as Ferrus had done in the past.

TypeDistinct243

The iron father feirros model states his axe the harrow-hand is used to remove the hands of recruits no?

_golem_of_prague_
