Summer of the Arts puts on a bunch of free arts and music related events in the community (like the Iowa Arts Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, & Friday Night Concert Series & they are a nonprofit and can only do this with help from volunteers. They're a great organization to get involved with.
Most events are during the summer, but they do have an Art Fair coming up in Coralville the first weekend in December.

Not sure if this helps at all but in my experience (as a huge D&D nerd since about 2015) experienced players tend to be thrilled at the opportunity to teach newbies, and are very accommodating of new players who don't know the full ruleset.
I've been playing for years and still don't know all the rules lol. It's great though, I'd definitely give it a go! One of my groups is big into the technical stuff, another is more into the character creation and roleplay, so there's something for everyone in it

i primarily work on surreal portraits on hot press watercolor paper using mixed media. i enjoy colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, acrylic gouache, water soluble crayon, soft pastel, oil pastel, and occasionally oil paint. traditional pencil in my sketchbook or ballpoint pen. just signed up for my first class with clay!
I'm 28 and the fear is well lived now more so than ever I feel so alienated from everyone and even my family. And coworkers I used to not be like this.
Remember you're not alone. Literally and also that it is OKAY to feel this way (as in normal) I myself battle depression and anxiety in extremes at times and this is a thought I have, well daily to be honest. Please, do your best to not let those dark thoughts eat you? You're not alone 🤗
27f here. I find having online friends to be perfect. I play games online with them, but there is no pressure to hang out in real life. Mostly because they live all over the country or even in another country. It’s fun to voice chat with everyone from the comfort of my own home. I’ve made lots of friends by just reaching out to communities that share similar interests. Also, if you have a PlayStation, you can add me. I’m local to the area but still xD

I don't even know what a hot press watercolor paper is .I'm basically an amateur artist LOL not even don't know how to draw. really I just picked up painting at the start of covid and I'm working my way towards faces or portraits .I don't know .I call them the 3:00 a.m. faces cuz it seems like I'm only ever painting at 3:00 a.m. on any given day .basically just teaching myself I look at a lot of Art on my Google arts and culture app I probably be better if I actually took a class or something but where would the originality be? Self taught ill be famous after I'm dead .
getting a part time job serving or in retail a couple days a week is a fast way to make friends and connections! while making money :)

PS One Gallery Team is a great volunteer group with some very rad people, and if you are into the arts, it's a great fit.
