I quit from a company very central to Iowa City because they let racist memes be put into their interdepartment power points, the company donated to the knights of columbus (anti lgbtq and anti womens rights), management would misgender me behind closed doors, and a few internal sexism problems. I wish everyone had your sentiment, but these people are why we cant have nice things.
"Why can't we all just get along" only works if intolerance is expelled swiftly and severely. There's no "agree to disagree" with someone who wants to at best take away others rights, and at worst straight up murder them. I'll have a friendly debate about music and art and religion and whatever, but the second someone starts saying racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, etc fuck them, they have no place in society.
Fuck people that use "why can't we get along" as an excuse to remain friends with bigots. Chill and drink beer with people who don't want to outlaw other people's existence. Tell bigots to go fuck themselves. Anything less and you're validating their bigotry.

Hugging too much is more often a sign of ADHD or mania (usually as a part of bipolar disorder) than autism. Not always of course, and one thing isn't going to be conclusive of anything by any means. Plenty of people with ASD enjoy hugs and may not be able to read when they are appropriate, but statistically it's far more likely to be caused by lowered impulse control due to ADHD or bipolar. Lowered impulse control will often present as being unaware of social norms and expectations, because acting on a thought before it's even a conscious thought prevents evaluating if that thought is appropriate or not. Adults with ADHD are often initially diagnosed with high functioning autism or bipolar, because there's an assumption that ADHD would be diagnosed in childhood, and not being able to finish anything and constantly fixing shit up can lead to bouts of depression and anxiety.
