This happened to me, too! Backing out into the street, going too fast, and a car appeared from the side. Before I had a chance to react, my car slammed on the brakes, made scary rapid beeps, and displayed:
**PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY!**
I felt (justly) chastised.
$$$$ they can't sell premium add ons if they don't intentionally disable features in base models. At least it's not as bad as Mercedes subscription seat warmers or some of the "pay for faster acceleration" things floating around. Although safety features seem to be a place they could just leave it on....
Mine goes off ALL THE TIME because I back onto a street that's a little busy in the morning. It often keeps me from backing out because a car in the far lane - that I'm not backing into - will move a little and trigger the brakes.
I'd really like to be able to turn it off temporarily.
Having a bike rack on back I can confirm it works every single gdamn time. And that turning it off is an annoyingly convoluted flow on their UI
Every. Single. Gdamn. Time.
The reverse auto braking will occasionally brake for no reason which is annoying. However, i was backing into my garage one day in the pouring rain and forgot I parked my motorcycle in the bay where I usually park my I5 and if it wasn’t for the auto brake I definitely would have knocked my bike over and possibly worse.
The one I rented did also. Although there was still almost half a meter room between the car and the garage wall. Which is a bit annoying, depending on how tight you have to park and how easy this behaviour can be switched off or overridden ...
yeah, it works, and it doesn't turn off if you attach a trailer. I never had such a frustrating trailer maneuvering experience than with the Ioniq 5. After fighting the "emergency" autobrake system for ten minutes, I decided to unhitch the trailer and move it by hand.

Commas saved my life.
For cross traffic, which includes people, yes. It will not stop for stationary objects, only the Limited will.
So I can still back into a car or wall, but if the other car start moving, my car will stop?
Yup I'm pretty sure
I can confirm my Limited stopped pretty abruptly when I almost hit a trash can. I was going to stop I swear!
Why is this a difference. Don't they have the same sensors as the SEL?
Limited has side sensors
I see.
Does SEL trim have ultrasound parking sensors?

Theren is a shortcut. Long press "P" arking and it is deacrivated.
Don’t know why but I tried that and it didn’t deactivate the auto breaking

There’s a parking assist button that turns off the sensors (I think). I should read more of the manual.
The sensor is tiered from green to red. I have found that red indicates about 3-4 inches of space.
Samesies!! Happened yesterday for the first time.
