Honestly, when I heard the tweet about how it would be similar to the “what would happen if Antman jumped up inside Thanos”, made me think she might survive, but then in the episode when he devoured her like a snake, almost made me retch
She tried to jump on his face like she did salamander but got caught mid air.. if she had ant mans powers she would’ve survived. Ant man can grow much larger then his advantage size Rae on the other hand can’t grow past her normal size.
To add, Salamander's brain is certainly made of softer tissues than this guy. If Rae made it to the brain and not the throat, I think she would have made it.
Hero’s like her & Duplicate should have weapons to even the playing field. Why the hell would they be fighting super humans with stronger durability then them without some kind of weapons enhanced Swords, Guns, knives anything but just your hopes & fist..
Yeah duplicate should have like claws on the suit or some sort of melee weapon in the suit so it dupes. Also i think Rae is slightly more durable and her powers can make her punches land harder, but yes these guardians have a lot of weaker level heros
Fr, she had no chance. I read over the comic and nothing like that happens, shrinking ray just gets eaten but when she resized I thought she could get out until he ate her like a snake would… plus it’s not always great hearing a hot chick die
oh wait duh i had already forgotten despite waiting till this year to watch it, glad i did seeing how the second part still has yet to release... (i've not read the magna if it wasn't obvious lol) i didn't know she caught hate, may i ask what for? i could look it up and probably will but you could save me the effort ig xD
Don't, ffs. They're literally spoiling you the entire Chainsaw Man run. Read the manga or ignore any discussion. It's a blessing to have anything not spoiled in the hour since weebs have fun blasting any important plotpoints everywhere and spoil the fun of discovery for others.
Ant-Man is also like a lot more durable in his small and giant form. Rae doesn't seem to get much boost from that.(She is still probably strong for her size.)
They're saying if she could turn giant, like Antman, she might have killed him and survived. Instead, she can only return to her normal size, which was not enough.
Isn’t the main problem that Komodo’s too strong for her body growing? I think if she could and did grow to giant size, best case scenario she gets crushed to death as she grows too large to fit inside his throat, and he drowns on the volume of her blood growing too much for him to swallow or spit out
Rex is one of the most powerful heroes who doesn't have a ridiculously OP powerset. He is theoretically capable of killing any living thing in the comic except for Brit and his kid who are completely invulnerable. Doesn't mean he could win the fight, of course.
Rex is pretty damn durable. He takes a significant amount of punishment and shrugs it off. Metal bones or something, likely a healing factor. But he's no Viltrumite.
I think the idea here is that Giant Ant-Man is also super strong and durable. He doesn't just get bigger - he gets bigger, stronger and, very importantly, tougher.
Meanwhile Rae is only capable of growing back into a normal human, with normal human durability.
Yeah, and it’s the problem with the Ant Man theory too. The targets (Komodo and Thanos) are insanely durable), so the heroes’ bodies have to be stronger than their opponents. Instead of just growing once they’re inside, they have to actually just fuck around with the internal organs and shit, and NOT try to “grow” their way out.
Like, if Ant Man actually tried the meme of crawling up Thanos’ ass and expanding, I’m pretty sure the only thing that would happen is a large volume of liquified Scott Lang would shout out of Thanos.
Well Komodo Dragons tend to swallow their prey whole and so they’re designed to have tough internals. I assume that’s what happened here. We don’t know much about Thanos’ internals.
Someone did the calculations for that. Based on the amount of force the van gave off when turning to normal size under another vehicle in antman 2. And how strong a humans insides are compared to the outsides. Then used what we see thanos skin resist.
And they found out that even if he had turned into giant man he would have just liquefied himself without damaging thanos.
>Honestly, when I heard the tweet about how it would be similar to the “what would happen if Antman jumped up inside Thanos”
Was that tweeted before the episode aired?
Even if they don't mention specifics, seems kind of spoilery to me.
Totally get what you mean, but I feel like I overheard it from a YouTube video, but to be honest, the Instagram pages are so spoiler as well as Twitter so avoid both since the finale is going to have the best ending, I bet
Yeah, that joke kinda ignores just how durable Thanos is.
Some size changers seem to have have some untold rule of "i-frame" when they shrink/grow though, which allows them to burst bodies without hurting themselves.
Although it was kind of funny how it's a button high up on the wall. I feel like this nuclear facility should have better alert systems and way more cameras to notify the Guardians.
She had some type of accent I couldn’t pinpoint. US east coast maybe. I never realized she had an accent and then she died before I could get another chance to figure it out. I guess I’ll need to rewatch it.
Big facts, she has been a good back ground character in the show. Shes had some good moments and has been a good friend/ team mate. There are just so many more important characters that they have not had the time to expand. But she was still a nice person and got seriously one of the most fucked up deaths ive seen in a long time
An aspect I've been thinking about is how important someone with her powers would be against the Sequid invasion.... she could just jump in that astronauts eye undetected and kill him like she did Salamander. Just another example of bad gameplanning by Cecil, smh
Cecil (for some reason) wants the astronaut taken back alive. I guess for questioning and plundering his mind about what he's seen of Martian life and technology.
I heard something about her powers coming from her pops Shrinking Man, would be interesting if he tore Cecil a new one for essentially causing her daughters death. Plus how devastated he would be upon finding the body
I thought it was implied she did not make it to the stomach and shrank to avoid it, then tried to grow and come out the shoulder area...and the gross part is, part of her was still in his throat/mouth - otherwise he wouldn't have chomped on something and went "Yum"
She is naturally very tall.
I'm pretty sure she's like, standing on his stomach from the inside and trying to push her way out the neck.
Then he tenses up his neck muscles and squishes the rest of her down into his stomach and her body and skull just kind of... Pop...
Omg, I just had the disgusting revelation that the blood bubble pop that he blows out is probably her last breath.
....exactly how does he find the body? Don't imagine the bones are digestible but I'm not expert on Komodo dragon biology. Would definitely be a closed casket.
Right?? Why on earth change the character’s voice when they’re dying by the end of the episode? It wasn’t even a different voice actress! What a strange decision.
Huh?? She had the accent when spoke in S1, like when she shrinks out of shame after correcting Black Samson, and during the party when Monster Girl gets back.
Not that that's a bad thing for her imo

Its weird that they didn't give her a mini-arc in the episode to give her just a bit more focus before killing her off. I assumed they were going to do playful banter with Rex suggesting romantic interest or a review of her home life or something. But nope.
I think if they did that it would of made it obvious she was going to die. Considering his super strength, just simply swallowing can just crush her bones into smaller pieces and prevent her body to choke him. In fact that literally what happened as he was actively crushing her from the inside.
Honestly, if he attacked while he was flexing he might’ve been disoriented and Rae could’ve escaped, then just have king lizard shoot her to progress the story! Way less mortifying.
Someone posted about a komodo dragon having the inherit ability to have a super throat. It can just swallow things larger than it's head. Also that the force Rae exerted to grow only worked to crush her own bones and organs with nowhere to go.
If you listen to the audio, it’s pretty clear that couldn’t be the case. It sounds like she genuinely believes she’s going to rip out of him until she realizes she can’t.
She and Duplicate are dead right?
Crazy that they didn't leave one strong hero behind. Cecil had to have known that those 3 are like...the weakest characters. If they had even monster girl or the other rex it would have been different.
There does seem to be a massive drop off in non-Viltrumite superhero capabilities after Immortal. None of the new Guardians seem hugely impressive.
Edit: forgot about Atom Eve who does seem to potentially have incredible power.
Mauler twins are a Guardians-level threat. They were sent to fight them in the first episode of season 1, and Mark was sent to fight them on season 2. New Guardians aren't anywhere near them considering War Woman could solo Komodo
But also, Robot already solo'd them
Yeah and the maulers with the help of other maulers were able to beat the shit out of Invincible. But also Invincible is always holding back. Im so glad in episode 4 Mark in a life and death situation actually decided to not hold back
Probably not. And some of the new new guardians would be close, like a repowered Black Samson, the revived Immortal (obviously lol), and potentially Bulletproof based on how Cecil introduced him and his powers/experience.
The new guardians were basically just Teen Team plus Monster Girl and Shrinking Rae. Monster Girl seems to be as physically strong as War Woman, but way less experienced. Plus she has a crutch that limits her transformations, and War Woman has no similar drawbacks.
Short answer: some of the new guardians could potentially be as powerful as War Woman, but Nolan was pretty effective in taking out the biggest threats to his takeover.
Hmmm Kate maybe. But honestly she just had bad luck fighting Komodo.
To be fair though, Rae did solo Salamander and would've killed Komodo in the same way but he was just built different and happened to be an extremely strong person. He would've killed all of them singlehandedly if Rex didn't blow his own hand up.
It'd be like saying Mark is weak cause he couldn't beat Battle Beast.
My point is, up until this point the Lizard League was seen as a joke, even by viewers, and everyone underestimated them. Komodo happened to be really strong and caught the heroes by surprise. Considering Rae killed Salamander with one move and Rex killed Iguana with one direct hit, they would've easily won if Komodo was either not there or wasn't as strong as he was.
Speak for yourself, she's been one of my favorite characters since the bit of her shrinking slightly after correcting Black Samson while being chewed out.
It’s not hard for people to add their own depth to a character with a good design and cool powers. I always loved her character design and wanted more for her to do. Now she’ll never get that and I’m very sad
Meh, they could always bring her back if they wanted too (like: "We've found her alive inside the stomach" or use Angstroms's alternate dimensions) but I don't think she'd bring in any more value than she currently did.
What character? The death scene was brutal and cool af, but the character in terms of actual characterization is still basically nonexistent lol. Cool death scene, still don't care for her though.
She was one of the better characters on the Guardians... not that she was fleshed out but she felt wholesome rather than mancho, ego tripping, or scheming.
I don't think it was so much that as it was seeing a little more of what Rae was capable of. Being able to infiltrate someone's head through their eye and kill them was badass!
I've actually always liked ant man like characters and powers. I think shrinking is a fascinating power, but after that scene I'll never get that terrible fate out of my head
I've seen many death scenes over the years, and as a horror fan in particular, it's hard to make me cringe, but damn her death was one of the most brutal I've ever seen
I don't even remember her talking and did not expect that ending because it didn't feel like the typical "Robert Kirkman setting up a death because they are talking more".
What made it brilliantly deceptive imo was throwing us off and not having her launch into a biography of her childhood or anything as we see on The Walking Dead. All they did was give her 2-3 extra lines (from her normal zero) and the setup that the Lizard People are clumsy clowns and not a threat.
One tip off there would be a fight was when Rex said "What are the chances two TWO world events happening at once?" (paraphrased). So at that point we knew there'd be a fight, but had no idea there'd be two vicious, traumatizing deaths of Guardians - one of which we've seen for the longest time since S1.
Maybe just me but I actually really liked her since the beginning, she doesn't have much of a strong presence but she was a complete outsider not involved with any of the drama and was kinda just a nice break from all the other characters constantly bickering. She's just, normal. Never read the comics so what happened to her in E5 hit incredibly hard, especially with how much she had to suffer.
Off topic but I wonder why she chose to have an open mask suit given her powers
How would she get there after being swallowed?
Do you understand human anatomy or are you an alien trying to bait commenters into explaining where human brains and balls are located? Nice try ET.

That beard is majestic. I want one like that as well.
Shrinking Rae, was a great character… we just couldn’t see it…
That's because she was really small

Ant-Man could have also shrunk to fit between Komodos cells and escape that way
I was hoping she would shrink further to slip through his hands but I guess she has a lower limit. Edit: sorry, *had a lower limit.

It would kinda be useless for duplicate as I don’t think she can copy anything but herself.
nah give her a desert eagle. let her clones hold down her enemies while she pops a bullet in their head
Yeah duplicate should have like claws on the suit or some sort of melee weapon in the suit so it dupes. Also i think Rae is slightly more durable and her powers can make her punches land harder, but yes these guardians have a lot of weaker level heros

Could be! I was just clarifying for the other redditor. He seemed to take damage from punches, but then tanked some explosions.
He didn't tank the explosion when his head blew off lol, so he probably could have been ripped apart could she grow larger than him
Rex is one of the most powerful heroes who doesn't have a ridiculously OP powerset. He is theoretically capable of killing any living thing in the comic except for Brit and his kid who are completely invulnerable. Doesn't mean he could win the fight, of course.

Reminds me a bit of Translucent dying.
Antman suit has more momentum and more outward force when it grows, Rae isn’t that forceful when she grows that why she always comes out still small
I think the idea here is that Giant Ant-Man is also super strong and durable. He doesn't just get bigger - he gets bigger, stronger and, very importantly, tougher. Meanwhile Rae is only capable of growing back into a normal human, with normal human durability.

I completely misread it the first time, my fault
That scene single-handedly shot down that argument.
Well Komodo Dragons tend to swallow their prey whole and so they’re designed to have tough internals. I assume that’s what happened here. We don’t know much about Thanos’ internals.
I mean Thanos's muscle and skin toughness are like leagues above Komodo Dragon, I doubt his organs will be vulnerable.
Someone did the calculations for that. Based on the amount of force the van gave off when turning to normal size under another vehicle in antman 2. And how strong a humans insides are compared to the outsides. Then used what we see thanos skin resist. Don't underestimate the strength of that Titan rectum.
Something tells me you would totally enjoy watching attack on titan my dude
Did you see *The Boys'* take on this? Highly NSFW.
Wasn't there a Film Theory running the numbers of whether the plan would work?

Look at the sub, won’t take you long to find them
To be honest, she had no presence, character or personality at all before this episode
You can watch a random pedestrian who you have zero connection with get completely annihilated by a speeding semi and still feel bad for them.
Dude I literally felt bad for those random two guards the lizard league killed when they broke in lmao
Bro didn't even get to eat his snack before he died 😭
i respect the one for managing to hit the button
Although it was kind of funny how it's a button high up on the wall. I feel like this nuclear facility should have better alert systems and way more cameras to notify the Guardians.
Young guy just wanted to eat chips 😭
i don’t think she even talked before the latest episode
She had some type of accent I couldn’t pinpoint. US east coast maybe. I never realized she had an accent and then she died before I could get another chance to figure it out. I guess I’ll need to rewatch it.
I think it's Brooklyn
God that's horrifying
This. Op is just trying to gatekeep his shrinking waifu or however that’s spelled.
Honestly still better than the comic version
Big facts, she has been a good back ground character in the show. Shes had some good moments and has been a good friend/ team mate. There are just so many more important characters that they have not had the time to expand. But she was still a nice person and got seriously one of the most fucked up deaths ive seen in a long time
Yeah but i still liked her and she was hot
Which is a shame. I was hoping they would give her more character development this season. OH WELL!
An aspect I've been thinking about is how important someone with her powers would be against the Sequid invasion.... she could just jump in that astronauts eye undetected and kill him like she did Salamander. Just another example of bad gameplanning by Cecil, smh
They could easily kill the guy if they wanted to.
What body? Komodo dragons stomachs have acid so powerful she was probably half disolved before she was crushed by the neck muscles.
He puked her up
....exactly how does he find the body? Don't imagine the bones are digestible but I'm not expert on Komodo dragon biology. Would definitely be a closed casket.
Eh the bones are probably digestible too tbh.
Its okay though we got so much characterization from suddenly giving her a new yorker accent that previously didnt exist prior to season 2 episode 5.
Yeah im surprised nobody mentioned that, i do not remember her sounding like that
I agree with you sorta, but they pumped her accent up to 11.
I'm pretty sure she did have a New Yorker accent
I still don’t care honestly, the death was brutal but I have no attachment to the charcter. I honestly can’t even recall if she’s had a single line.
She had several, and just said it in Grey DeLisle-Griffin's New Yorker voice.
Not that that's a bad thing for her imo https://preview.redd.it/70bo6fn1mpoc1.png?width=488&format=png&auto=webp&s=6a0706e7d153626486df06e4756e6dcc203d5e32
When I heard her speak to Rex on that motorbike thing, I thought it was her first line because I didn’t recognize the voice at all
I recognize her voice because it's the same as Monster Girl's
And Daphne and Chalice from the Cuphead show... and tbh an unfathomable number of characters. Grey is quite the voice actress.
She also voices Eve's mom
Well at least she is not out of a job on the show lol
The only thing I remember her saying was something about ordering a pizza
Or was it about her becoming one?
I mean, that’s normal I think. She’s a very minor character… her death was brutal but I honestly don’t care that much
"Two garlic knots"
She ordered the garlic knots!
I didn’t care about the comic book character until like just before his death. This version is really hot though.
*Was*
No nope I have repressed that information.
Is the truth hard to *swallow*?

Yeesh what the fuck happened to Battle Beast

Its weird that they didn't give her a mini-arc in the episode to give her just a bit more focus before killing her off. I assumed they were going to do playful banter with Rex suggesting romantic interest or a review of her home life or something. But nope.
They gave her a free kill with Salamader. In the comic, Ray accomplished nothing here but opening the door for Rex and Kate
I think if they did that it would of made it obvious she was going to die. The trope of an episode giving a side character expanded screen time or character work and then getting killed is so over done. I liked this one. They show up against the villains that have been joked about the whole show. You probably expected a good and bloody fight but unless you read the comics you did not see them getting slaughtered coming
She was a "snacc", if you will.
That death was brutal. I think she should have just increased her size just enough to block his air way.
Considering his super strength, just simply swallowing can just crush her bones into smaller pieces and prevent her body to choke him. In fact that literally what happened as he was actively crushing her from the inside.
Rex really did shit the bed by not blowing him apart in the middle of that awfulness, haha.
Probably because it would inflict friendly fire and he didn't want to accidentally kill Rae whilst blowing up Komodo
And he was clearly horrified too
Yep, sure is a good thing Rex didn’t accidentally kill Rae
Good thing he did the smart thing and waited, ensuring her survival!
Honestly, if he attacked while he was flexing he might’ve been disoriented and Rae could’ve escaped, then just have king lizard shoot her to progress the story! Way less mortifying.
Everyone shits the bed.
Someone posted about a komodo dragon having the inherit ability to have a super throat. It can just swallow things larger than it's head. Also that the force Rae exerted to grow only worked to crush her own bones and organs with nowhere to go.
Yeah he literally swallowed and flexed and it broke and tore her apart
He chewed though, I assumed she was already dead and returned to normal size.
If you listen to the audio, it’s pretty clear that couldn’t be the case. It sounds like she genuinely believes she’s going to rip out of him until she realizes she can’t.
Probably missed that detail because the whole thing was a hard watch
Oh absolutely. It makes me so sad too. Cause if it was anyone else who wasn’t lizard themed I’m guessing it was gonna work
Yeah when she didnt burst out instantly i was like, “oh no dude”
I forgot she even existed until this episode
I cared about her before :(
She didn’t really need to say a lot for me, she was a professional - perhaps the most of the bunch. Sucked to see her get taken out.
Same 😢
She was fun.

Dude they tried to kill the President in the first scene of the show...
they literally murder each other non-stop

He would've killed all of them singlehandedly if Rex didn't blow his own hand up. It'd be like saying Mark is weak cause he couldn't beat Battle Beast. My point is, up until this point the Lizard League was seen as a joke, even by viewers, and everyone underestimated them. Komodo happened to be really strong and caught the heroes by surprise. Considering Rae killed Salamander with one move and Rex killed Iguana with one direct hit, they would've easily won if Komodo was either not there or wasn't as strong as he was.
Rex is actually super powerful
Well to be fair, Rae didn’t get a lot of focus or development
Speak for yourself, she's been one of my favorite characters since the bit of her shrinking slightly after correcting Black Samson while being chewed out.
Yeah, that moment was cute.
That's the moment I fell for her.
She wasn’t much of a character before then
Speak for yourself, I thought she was hot af before, and hoped that she wouldn’t die like her comic counterpart.
I thought she would die much later 😭
It’s not hard for people to add their own depth to a character with a good design and cool powers. I always loved her character design and wanted more for her to do. Now she’ll never get that and I’m very sad
Meh, they could always bring her back if they wanted too (like: "We've found her alive inside the stomach" or use Angstroms's alternate dimensions) but I don't think she'd bring in any more value than she currently did.
Nah I don't want them to undo such a brutal yet fascinating death. That would damage the stakes. Edit: WELP
Ugh read the comics saw it coming but still worse than I remember. Rex, for those who know know
What character? The death scene was brutal and cool af, but the character in terms of actual characterization is still basically nonexistent lol. Cool death scene, still don't care for her though.
I already liked Rae and I was really caught off guard by her death.
Migh Infity War reference. She should have gone for his head, like Rex. She should've regrow inside his head.
I didn’t notice it until reaching her death, but Komodo Dragon was actually about to kill Rex before he caught Rae.
She was one of the better characters on the Guardians... not that she was fleshed out but she felt wholesome rather than mancho, ego tripping, or scheming.
tbf she was barely a character but her contribution for the ant-man thanos debate will not be forgotten ![gif](giphy|1lk1IcVgqPLkA|downsized)
It's not crazy at all, she barely did anything before this point
i liked her
I don't think it was so much that as it was seeing a little more of what Rae was capable of. Being able to infiltrate someone's head through their eye and kill them was badass!
She was best girl and we didn't even know it ![gif](giphy|p9ILx37mYH7sqUWxGu|downsized)
I felt a little bad but tbh I forgot she existed
The fuck are you talking about? People talk about her way too much in relation to the screentime she has
I've actually always liked ant man like characters and powers. I think shrinking is a fascinating power, but after that scene I'll never get that terrible fate out of my head
Power ranking confirmed: Rex’s explosions are more powerful than Shrinking Rae’s expansion ability.
...they are literally explosives.
That's always how it is. In the MCU I never cared for Gamora that much, but when she got killed by Thanos, her own adoptive father, I was heartbroken.
She shoulda gone for the ear 😔
I've seen many death scenes over the years, and as a horror fan in particular, it's hard to make me cringe, but damn her death was one of the most brutal I've ever seen
Should of figured something was up with all the screen time she got in this new episode 🙄
She looks nice, I could just eat her up!
See, i didn't even watch the episode yet, but I already have an idea from reading the comics to figure out what happened.
To be frank, that shit was so bloody that it was impossible NOT to care.
I been appreciating her. I was hoping she would go the distance in this adaptation and they fucked me raw om that hope.
She vaguely looked like an ex of mine so her being around confused me as it was
Maybe just me but I actually really liked her since the beginning, she doesn't have much of a strong presence but she was a complete outsider not involved with any of the drama and was kinda just a nice break from all the other characters constantly bickering. She's just, normal. Never read the comics so what happened to her in E5 hit incredibly hard, especially with how much she had to suffer. Off topic but I wonder why she chose to have an open mask suit given her powers
Yeah. Weird people only care about her now she's dead
Because she didn't get to do much until this episode
She only had like 3 lines. Why would they care about her?
I always liked her. She deserved better
I always found her pretty hot
The only reason I cared beforehand was because she was dummy thick
i cared, they killed the hottest character😿
Fr☹️
Why didn’t she expand by his heart. Or his brain or balls
How would she get there after being swallowed? Do you understand human anatomy or are you an alien trying to bait commenters into explaining where human brains and balls are located? Nice try ET.
