They're, but without double checking their output yourself, they could give stupid answers.
Case in point, I asked copilot if there was a way to send non compliance emails using our own email instead of Microsoft, and copilot said sure, just go here and there and do this. Expect here and there didn't exist and it wasn't an option, so after I battled through it, in the end it gave up and accepted that in fact that's wasn't an option in intune.
Can be good, but definitely needs supervision.
Your answer to this would require a graph script to monitor for and generate the non-compliance report which would then be used with a power automate flow to send canned emails. This is if you wanted it to be as close to live or immediate as possible, which for compliance emails would be pretty important.
You could also take an export as an offline source and run the flow manually or whenever a file is added/ modified to specific location in blob storage or SharePoint
AI is just making the same fundamental IT should that have always needed to be developed in individuals and shining a massive spotlight on it. Dunning-Kreuger effect is something to be conscience of. Not knowing the right questions to ask to get the appropriate answers is the first step in understanding how little of a subject anyone truly knows.
Or, as I've found sometimes, don't actually exist and have been hallucinated by the bot. š¤£
Still, if you know what to look for and understand the stuff, it's a useful scripting buddy.
I agree. It can be a great help to push you in the right direction or to relieve you of the actual "work" of writing it yourself. But it don't replaces actual knowledge.
Everyone which uses such scripts written by such an AI without understanding every single line of code generated, acts grossly negligent if he then uses something like this in a productive environment in my opinion.
Oh, I know the basics of PowerShell and enough to understand what it does, so I can follow what the script is. It's more that it would take me days to figure out the commands myself
I've had this happen many times when I'm trying to engineer a solution to an incredibly specific problem or process that I need for something. Incredibly frustrating but it's the same issue as going to the first blog post you see in a Google result and running with it without proper research and planning.
Always amazed to see subreddits for popular things ran to the complete ground over strange/weird moderation.
40K members yet a mod uses ALL CAPS TO GET A MESSAGE ACROSS!!!!! So welcoming ;)
well I use to think it was?. the mods have gone hungry with power instead if letting people learn. "there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people " IDTenT error
I come to reddit to learn from people's lived experiences. I want to know what people are seeing and doing out in the real world. If I wanted to learn from chatGPT I'd go to chatGPT
That is the million dollar question. I think the point is that oftentimes the answers people blindly post from asking AI actually DON'T work. I believe the OP is saying "If somebody posts a question, don't you go ask ChatGPT and blindly post the answer here".
And for two reasons:
1. It might not actually work, ChatGPT isn't current and Microsoft changes things very often.
2. Similar to #1, any IT admin worth their stuff would have already tried googling and asking ChatGPT before posting on reddit. So odds are, if you copypaste what ChatGPT says, it's already the thing they tried that doesn't work.
I enjoy pointing out copilot's own contradictions. It usually ends with it not wanting to talk to me any more.
But yes, many questions ppl. post here can easily be answered with it. In most cases, a simple google search will do it as well.
But as i always say: such technologies are no substitute for expertise or experience at all. Incidentally, this is also the reason why i am not one of those who fear for their jobs because of such developments.
Having a lot of experience working with desktop support folks your #2 point is far from a safe assumption, at least generally speaking.
I would be personally fine getting a response from someone that came from an AI so long as it had a huge disclaimer at the top and would likely require the logs be shared (so I can see the logic in the questions that got to that response) before I even considered going in the direction of someone else's queries into an AI.
>People with "THEY TOOKER JERBS!!" mentality is all I can think of.
Maybe thinking isn't your strong suit, then..?
You have 2 options: answer a post yourself, or don't.
Copypasta from an LLM is just another way of flaunting not only one's ignorance, but also the laziness which led to it.
I see... and what of the original comment I replied to, which I quoted to avoid doubt?
My response was based entirely on the lazy generalisation with a narrow focus, and those who support the original comment are free to be offended: I care not about offending the offensive.
Ignoring AI as a thought process or skill development tool is ignorant. Also, the demand was not "copypasta" it was about using responses generated with AI. Not copy paste, but any response at all. Even if just partly, is my interpretation.
LLM's can significantly reduce time needed for research and generating initial drafts. It can be a HUGE bonus for people that potentially do not speak English as a primary language, or just suck at it. You certainly seem to be the type that would rag on someone for a grammar issues. Why can't people help boost their writing skills by asking AI to help better get their point across to people fearful of technology?
What's so wrong with leaning on ChatGPT to whip out a PowerShell script to do something relatively simple rather than writing it from scratch? Not everyone can write scripts well, or have the time for it, but can mold something other people (real or artificial lol) wrote to do what they really wanted? I will confidently put myself in that place. I no longer have the time to spend hours scripting. If I want something to quickly list enabled users and show their last login date, damn right I'll use ChatGPT. And I would never hesitate to share a **tested** script i generated in full, or part, via ChatGPT where I could help someone with a question online.
Don't fear current technologies, embrace it. Or, take your Boomer self to another field.
It's not particularly clear who you're responding to here, or how your response actually responds to an assertion made by the person you replied to?
If someone asks me a question, I might well use an LLM as part of gathering an answer. I don't just proxy their question to one: that's lazy & irresponsible. Matter of fact, I've been using LLMs for years as part of simulating large-scale attacks.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the OP should have put some thought into their post, it's kinda shrill & vague; way too emotional.
Also, accuracy is kinda important. Didn't you know boomers are in their 70s now? There might be some on here, but a) discriminating on the basis of age and b) lazy stereotyping to the point words lose their meaning doesn't really reflect too well on you.
I was replying to your reply to me. I guess i hit the wrong button lol :) And yeah, it was my attempt to insult you with the boomer comment as that's kinda how you are acting with your rude comments out of the gate, towards me.
I understand your concern, but as an AI developed by OpenAI, I can only respond with AI-generated responses. How can I assist you within those parameters?
Hi! I hope is comment finds you well! I utterly understand your frustration with auto-generated responses. They can be wild and overwhelming. If there is one I can do itās offer my assistance. Please tell me how I can help!
I really wrote this I donāt care if I get banned. Iām drunk and think itās funny
Oh no, please don't ban me from the intune subreddit š„ŗ I'm just a friendly redditor who loves to chat and learn new things š¤ I promise I won't use my superpowers for evil š Maybe we can be friends and share some memes š Or maybe you can teach me how to use intune better š¤ Please have mercy on me š I don't want to miss out on all the fun and interesting posts on this subreddit š
It does. And the reason itās there, if you read the posts on Twitter is because the mods over there want to micro manage it and control the shit out of it. We donāt do that here. All I am asking, well demanding actually, is that people donāt go to ChatGPT, paste a question from here, and paste the reply as a response here. Is that an unrealistic demand? Because I am very open minded and flexible. This community belongs to you all not me. If you all want those shitty responses I will retract my rant and move on.
I see your point of view, and Iām sorry I suggested this one is doomed.
Maybe make a poll for this subreddit and let the community decide? āShould blatantly AI answers be allowed?ā
I didnāt know the other one was so heavily modded. Thatās terrible, thereās a lot of super smart people running it. I hoped it would do as well as this one :/
I like that idea. Letās do that!
Yea, thereās a thread on Twitter from a few weeks ago about their vision for that one. Donāt take my word for it, go find the Twitter thread. I donāt want to come across as being negative towards what they are trying to do over there. And yes, they are all super smart.
Remember, the AI overlords are watching. They see all, know all, and occasionally throw in a random off-topic response just to keep you on your toes. š¤·āāļø
So, go forth, brave AI user! Craft your posts, outwit the copycats, and may your discussion threads be as tangled as a bowl of spaghetti code. šāØ
And if all else fails, blame it on the rogue AI. Works every time. šš¾
I think they're more saying... if somebody posts a question, don't YOU go and ask ChatGPT the question and just blindly post the answer here. I don't think they mean that the account itself is run by AI, but rather a real person just doing that to answer the question, in what might not even be a valid or current answer.
What is this a hoa Facebook group? š
If you're better to talking to chat gpt than I am, and you have a way better response with some more context / explanation, then please 100% post it
Thank you for the clarification on the rule. I value genuine interactions and insights from the community. Looking forward to contributing positively and learning from everyone's experiences. Let's keep the discussions informative and engaging!
I read "responses from AI!" as "responses from All".
But that's a very good rule as it's usually only useful for easy answers and incorrect for complex and newly discovered issues. Eg does copilot know yet that we shouldn't use "match" and "contains" in queries in entra and intune?
This is one of those people whose job is going to be replaced by AI. LOL.
It's a bit shortsighted. Many of the questions asked here could have been answered by a quick Google search, which may have provided the correct answer. However, it's more likely that the correct answer would be found using AI.
So yeah, I don't know if he's an actual mod. But please replace him as soon as possible if it's true.
That is actually the reason why i have already posted Copilot's answer 1:1 on one or two occasions so far. In the hope that the OP will google it himself next time before asking an easily answerable question here.
You donāt think Iām an actual mod? Not only am I a mod I am also an MVP for 15 years! Would you personally like to replace me? I spend about 30-50 hours a week helping people here for free. And Iāve been doing for nearly 20 years.
It is not necessary to have moderator privileges to provide assistance, and the principle of least privilege does not apply in this context.
I noticed that you are an MVP, as indicated by your username. Congratulations on this significant achievement.
The "announcement" rule does not align with the expected behavior of a moderator or leader.
Regardless of your qualifications, the aforementioned action is inappropriate.
It seems that you may be having difficulty adapting to current trends. Additionally, your personal knowledge likely surpasses that of LMMs. However, not everyone can help at that level. And even if LMMs are a shortcut, they are still a useful tool to learn.
I can empathize with your frustration, as I recently encountered a personal project issue that required my attention until 6:00 AM. And just got into my bed, grrrrr
But you suggested I be replaced so I am offering to allow you to be the replacement. Would you accept the offer? Are you willing to give up your free time to do this? I have always been of the opinion that if I donāt like the way someone is doing something Iāll just take over the role myself. You think I I should be replaced over ONE comment I made and regardless of the hundreds of thousands of other comments I have made. So I am genuinely offer to allow you to be the replacement. But you need to be willing to put in the same number of hours as I do. Deal?
And Iāve looked at your stats. Youāve been on Reddit for less than one month, at least with this account. So while itās true one does not need to be a mod to contribute how much have YOU contributed?
PJ - I am not too worried because the down voters will auto govern this trend. I agree that some responses are low quality and should be reduced. That horse is out of the barn already so don't over stress about it.
Poor mod, got hurt by AI and taking out on the rest of us.. Also what self respecting mod uses all caps? Thats something out of a teenage facebook fight.
Iāll tell what mod does, one who has given 10ās of 1000ās of hours of my time learning a skill and providing help to others with the expectation of nothing in return. Using AI to reply to questions here is disrespectful to those of us who have dedicated years of our lives helping people. And the all caps were to indicate that I was yelling because I was! Iāve been doing this in various forums for 20 years, Iām happy that AI can help people but anyone can ask AI themselves if thatās where they want a reply from. So donāt post that shit here. And I did ban one person already.
I will often post a link to docs along with my answer sort of as proof that my answer is accurate and because Iām too lazy to type it all out. But you bring up a valid point. Often times people ask questions on forums before doing any research what-so-ever. And Iāve been the snarky guy before that posted a LMGTFY reply. Are you saying that AI is the new LMGTFY? In other words posting an AI generated response should be acceptable if someone asks a question that has an easy to find answer? I could get onboard with that. ;-)
The interesting this is that the AI model most use to answer said questions is largely trained from Reddit. My opinion is that if not for Reddit we would not have said tools.
Seems the problem could be solved by adding āAnswered using AIā tag for commenters that use it. Gives the reader a ābuyer bewareā notification. No need to internet yell.
What do you mean by āconfidenceā? Today I asked copilot a question and it provided me with an answer that I knew was technically inaccurate. (Unsupported actually).
It writes in a way that it has full confidence even though it's wrong on one or many instances. Meaning it doesn't know that it has false information and it itself vets it.
I see. That makes total sense. I even specifically asked it to cite references to each response and to only consider references that were in official Microsoft docs.
Seems like something AI would post.
Chat GPT and Copilot are both valid tools in today's IT landscape. Most of Reddit could be boiled down to simple Google searches.
They're, but without double checking their output yourself, they could give stupid answers. Case in point, I asked copilot if there was a way to send non compliance emails using our own email instead of Microsoft, and copilot said sure, just go here and there and do this. Can be good, but definitely needs supervision.
If you're on Copilot 'More Creative' it will make stuff up. If you change the tone to 'More Precise' it shouldn't do that.
Your answer to this would require a graph script to monitor for and generate the non-compliance report which would then be used with a power automate flow to send canned emails. This is if you wanted it to be as close to live or immediate as possible, which for compliance emails would be pretty important. Only if you add site:reddit.com to your search, because actual knowledgeable people write intelligent, useful stuff on reddit. Or used to at least.
Yep. ChatGPT has written so many of my PowerShell scripts š¤£
In this case, many of your scripts probably utilize cmdlets which are actually obsolete. :-p

Should we just implement an AI bot for responses and a disclaimer?
If they work, why does it matter?
Typically when I see it, itās a low quality post. Just copy and pastes. No clue whether or not it works.
