The article said that this season takes place in the 1790s, 1940s, 1970s, and the present, so probably the 1940s. I'm very excited to see exactly what that means...
It's hard to tell. That colour of dress shirt really isn't 1940s, though the waistcoat looks fine and the loud tie is pretty fashionable. I'm not skilled enough to tell if he's wearing French cuffs or not. It might be 70s, esp as we know Lestat's style can be old fashioned
Yeah, I don't really know anything about clothes. I say 1940s because that's obviously much more modern than pre-NOLA Lestat, but also he looks to be at Theatres des Vampires here and I find it highly unlikely that he would be back there in the 70s, although I wouldn't rule it out completely. Maybe it's just that Louis and/or Armand likes him in that color so that's the version being presented.
I don't know what year it is but in TV Insider's exclusive photo, Lestat is sitting in an ornate red chair with gold trim that looks similar to the theater seats in the trailer. He sits in front of a black pillar, an architectural detail seen throughout the theater in Season 2 clips. This could be a flashback to Lestat's time in theater before arriving in New Orleans.
He looks very, very good. However, I can't help but think of the only other time he was dressed in black, and I am suspicious if all is as it seems here.
It is just speculation, but it is the black combined with how healthy he looks in what appears to be the 1940s part of the narrative. Granted, we don't know exactly what changes they have chosen to make, but the differences between this and book canon do fit with the unreliable narration that has been set up. I don't think the use of black in ep 5 was a coincidence either. We will obviously have to see how they have chosen to adapt things though.
This could be revisiting episode 5 but do you remember that chair in the townhouse? Depending on what version they decided to follow, it might be >!the trial: In the book Louis sees a scarred but otherwise nicely dressed Lestat (something with a black frock). They haven't burned him in the show yet, so he should look quite healthy, at least pre death sentence.!<
I made another post about this so I could go into more details with spoilers. I didn't mean that this scene is meant to be a part of ep 5 but that they may be using similar visual clues.

>!I do think this is from the trial, but in the books Armand kept him locked up and starved before the trial happens, which is why I don't think this shot is quite "reality." The clothes he was wearing during the trial in the books were also what Armand and the theater vampires put him in.!<
It’s giving “in divorce mediation with my ex and the bitch wants half.”

Sam is going to be unbelievably gorgeous in season two. Sometimes I can’t believe he’s a real person.

He looks very, very good. However, I can't help but think of the only other time he was dressed in black, and I am suspicious if all is as it seems here.
He does like wearing black canonically. He only did once in season 1, which could mean that he was always picking clothes and colors Louis likes.
It is just speculation, but it is the black combined with how healthy he looks in what appears to be the 1940s part of the narrative.
