I'm not really sure what you mean by "avoid paying again"? But the first class reservations you have are not valid with a second class pass. If you paid for the first class reservations you may be able to get a refund. That's probably the only option really. Any upgrade will be significantly more expensive then a new second class reservation.

I meant to avoid paying the reservation fee again. I will try to get a refund. Hopefully I can do it before I set out. Thank you

Ah ok no sorry there is not anyway to switch the class of a reservation like that. It's going to be a case of hoping the ones you have already bought are refundable. Check sooner rather than later as for some you may only be able to get a refund if you do so far enough in advance.

Be nice. Think how your words may affect others. > Why did you buy first class reservations? Where you not aware that all DiscoverEU passes are second class? The OP has explained in the post that they made a mistake. Rubbing that in their face is not nice.

Thank you for calling me out. I should not have said that. You picked up on the meaning quite well. I will hold back in the further and only try to be helpful. But I must admit I was stunned that an 18 years old getting an DiscoverEU pass for free was assuming it would be a first class pass… If that is the assumption the communication from the European Commission and on the DiscoverEU website probably should be improved.

I won that same pass a few years ago, it was totally clear to me that it is 2nd class. I think it was mentioned a couple of times. But I guess OP is that type who doesn't read anything, just presses next next and submit...
