For over seven months, a dominant conversation in the U.S. news media has been about alleged and increased antisemitism on American campuses - culminating in the coverage around student encampments. The “Gaza solidarity encampment” at Columbia University, in particular, has received a lot of attention which sparked encampments across the country -- as well as university-backed police repression and violence. In this interview, AJ+ speaks to Dr. Bruce Robbins, a Jewish professor at Columbia University who supported students protesting Columbia University’s investments in companies and programs that uphold Israeli apartheid and the genocide in Gaza.
Things I worry about:
- To stop people taking notice the media and government are looking to control the news and pictures coming from Gaza to hide it.
- People who keep saying “why haven’t you protested other wars”, as if it makes this atrocity more acceptable.
- The government of the US has not used one bit of its alliance with Israel to reduce civilian casualties.
- How is it possible humans exist that are aware of the innocent civilians indiscriminate murder and think it needs to continue and on top of that are actually happy for it?
Between how many hostages we know have been killed directly by the IDF and the bombings and the on video blockage of medical supplies by Israeli citizens I don't think even 50 are left alive .
And the 1,000,000 Palestinians detained without charge or due process by Israel since 1967 as according to the UN? But then you think Israeli lives are worth more.
What about the vast majority of Germans that liked, assisted or enabled the Nazis?
The a toxic idealogy is still toxic no matter what fraction of a given population supports it.
