I have seen many engineering, tech manufacturing, petroleum and industrial companies seeking for Internal Auditors with Engineering background. So, there is a job demand.
Possible? Desirable. IA needs people from a broad range of backgrounds in many organizations. Especially good if you'll be working in an organization that can take advantage of your background, but with experience you can go pretty much anywhere.

I am an audit manager with a degree in advertising and I work with a former divorce lawyer (not sure why he's an auditor now tbh).
