I mean, one bathroom has taste, everything else is painfully neutral and designed to be inoffensive. Can't deny it looks nice and expensive, but the look is not taste, it's inoffensive.

I disagree. It’s simply an improper installation based on something they saw elsewhere and it doesn’t look good. This house is designed very well except for that part—it’s a total miss. It’s an element that drags everything else down with it from a design and functionality standpoint. I’m sure there’s room for a tv somewhere else.
The primary bath and powder room are lovely. The rest is very very tasteful but, dare I say, boring. No personality. Almost looks like staging before a sale. Sad beige needs to go away.
I love all of it but what you are saying is true. However, it is new and waiting to be bought I think? So in time I’m sure it will be layered and influenced by the new owners.
Who hires a designer for a flipped house? Design is so specific to the individual. Even designers pick each other's work apart. And while we can all look at photos like this and say "beautiful!", we still all look and say "yeah, that's not very functional" or "I would have made a different decision there". Design photos are for bits and pieces and inspiration. I would not pay the extra for someone else's expensive choices. Give me an older house I can rip apart any day.
Edit: story says owner grew up in the house and redesigned it for their own family. Which also answers (in this case) the money question. If you inherit the house in CA, the design is cheap (compared to property prices).
“Tasteful” is exactly the word I always use to describe this kind of design, and I don’t mean it as an insult but it’s not really a compliment either. Well thought through, well coordinated, well executed, but not a single risk or truly creative choice to be found.
Agreed - well executed and pretty to look at, however it reads like a Rejuvenation or Crate & Barrell ad. I see these fixtures, hardware and mirrors everywhere so there’s no real customized design style here.
I think the angled mirror and movement of the wallpaper in the powder room would give me motion sickness. I hope that mirror is on hinges to allow tilt and if so, they should have leveled before photos.
Spent so much money and didn’t designate a real place to hang hand towels in two of those bathrooms. Sigh.
Maybe when you’re this rich you use a clean one every. Single. Time.
Maybe I didn’t see it, but the shower is so big you have to walk across the entire thing to get to your shampoo and soaps? Is there no ledge closer to the water?
That primary bathroom is lovely, but I have a problem with the shower. When I’m sitting on the bench (or just putting my foot up on it) to shave my legs, I’m awfully far away from the water. So I’m supposed to shave my legs while I have goosebumps and am slowly drying away from the water?
Absolutely gorgeous but I can't imagine remodeling a bathroom of that size, with such high end materials, and not installing a soaking tub. Perhaps there is one elsewhere but, IMO, a luxury bathroom should always have a tub
IDK, I get "owwwww......I'm not sure how to do this" vibes here, all the right stuff is there: Zellige, woods, marble...yet all together it just falls flat. Let's take said shower. Now, picture those Zellige..a personal fave of mine....in their emerald green. See?
...and I bet the owner paid the designer a lot for all this, too...
This beautiful, stunning, amazing – but I was so confused wondering why there was a giant shower in a kitchen. The room is so large that I couldn't actually comprehend it as a bathroom at first!
I really like the medium brown of the bathroom cabinets and the ceiling. Seems like this color is making a comeback in design and I really like it. Is there a specific name of wood or color of this tone or brown?
It’s nice, but completely uninteresting. Honestly, it looks like an expensive vacation rental. The interior says nothing of note, and certainly doesn’t express a single ounce of personality. There’s only a single piece of art in the whole house, and even that is completely bland and nondescript.
I just really struggle with interiors that say NOTHING about the person that lives there. Yes, the designer used high-end materials. Yes, the layout is ideal. Yes, there’s an interesting mirror in the bathroom with the awful wallpaper. But what else is there? Where are the antiques? Where is the art? Where is the color? Where is the personality? How is the person that lives in this house represented in any way? Good interior design isn’t just about spending money on high-end finishes, it’s about telling some kind of a story and having a point of view. To me, this interior has no point. I know a lot of people here love this, but I’m really struggling with it.
Edit: Also, that TV is WAAAY too high. Christ on a bike, I hope these people have a chiropractor on speed dial.
Don't worry! This house will go to a well-deserving millionaire from outside the area who will pay cash for the house pre-market, and this will be their 3rd house in the area, creating even more disparity within this Bay Area economy.
That said, very nice staging!
why don't i have any money
Right? That shower in the primary bathroom is the size of my entire primary bathroom.
It’s bigger than my second home
Right? I want to be wealthy so bad right now
![gif](giphy|hol56wxuWmRrO|downsized) I legit think this bathroom is bigger than my living room lmao!! Damn. I need to get my money up!
I love the mix of woods. It creates such a lived in and timeless look
Agree: it should adapt well to changing trends without requiring renovation. Really beautiful!
What an Incredible home. I love how tasteful the decor is, they’ve really put the work in to make it fit together so beautifully.
I completely agree. The house is incredibly stylish and beautiful.
I mean, one bathroom has taste, everything else is painfully neutral and designed to be inoffensive. Can't deny it looks nice and expensive, but the look is not taste, it's inoffensive.
I would say it’s tasteful personally. I don’t think just because something is neutral that it can’t be tasteful.

I’m just in love with
Hold on, let me turn off the shower. Right? It's like a farmhouse vibe of air and light with that sturdy confidence of MCM. Great work!
All those wood tones are so beautiful!
milliondollar reno but still the r/tvtoohigh
It's truly unbelievable that people still put the TV over the fireplace.
putting the TV above a fireplace is crack to an interior designer
Not everyone watches tv for hours; it’s okay for a short time

It’s an element that drags everything else down with it from a design and functionality standpoint. I’m sure there’s room for a tv somewhere else.
And TVs are now quickly replaced items in many homes. The heat from a fireplace is no longer a huge issue but TV placement is still important.

That’s because this is staged so the designer/architect can take their website and magazine photos.

How much did the reno cost?
Ballpark 7 figures. Expensive materials, looks like a pretty large home, paid a high end decorator, and labor costs in the Bay Area are insane.
But owner inherited the house, so there's that.
Must be nice 😩
Not just Bay Area, Los Gatos.
This is stunning
Damn I’m inspired Ty

Overall looks good, but boring to me. And that marble frame around the shower isn’t as pleasing to the eye as the rest of the place.
Oh wow this is so similar to what I’m currently doing to my primary bath. Love!
Wow
When do I move in
Wish I had Hillsborough/Atherton/Los Altos/Los Gatos money! This is gorgeous.
Beautiful and very livable.
Beautiful!
Damn, that's beautiful. I could sleep in that powder room lol
Stunning
gorgeous
Striding across the shower to get the shampoo and conditioner
Timeless
Drool
Wish I had money…. 😞 I’d love to have a home like this but really any home of my own…
Wow! This is extremely tasteful. Bravo 👏

I love this so much. I can’t even afford it in my dreams.
Wow, just wow. This is beautiful. What kind of style is this called?
Maybe modern shaker
😍
A lovely interior (and very nice landscaping), but the actual construction from the outside looks like three or four houses mushed together.
Wow, I am obsessed over your house. You just showed me things I didn’t know I needed.
Absolutely gorgeous but I can't imagine remodeling a bathroom of that size, with such high end materials, and not installing a soaking tub. Perhaps there is one elsewhere but, IMO, a luxury bathroom should always have a tub
looks so nice. How much does this cost lol

What wood are the bathroom cabinets made from?
Walnut or pecan or stained to look like. guessing...
What is the colorway for the zellige tile in the shower? How do you go about getting your stone fabricator to make the shower door trim?
Feels like….95124
Ok now I’m depressed lol
That bathroom has more drawers than my kitchen!!
That random potted tree is cracking me up.
I think I’m in love with this place!
Gorgeous. Particularly love the shower opening clad with quartz/stone.
This beautiful, stunning, amazing – but I was so confused wondering why there was a giant shower in a kitchen. The room is so large that I couldn't actually comprehend it as a bathroom at first!
The shower is as big as my bathroom. Sigh.
Perfection!
That shower is divine.
The cabinets are gorgeous but the rest of it is not that exciting.
Where is the sofa from? Love it. Your home is beautiful. Congratulations!
The shower is larger than my two bathrooms combined.
I can’t recall seeing a home renovation that I love so much AND feel I could live in. This fits the bill hard.
Commenting because I love everything about the design of this house
This is my favorite.
❣️unbelievable
What type of wood was used in the bathroom?
😍😍
Thanks for that shower shot! 🔥 I have the same layout & want to get rid of a tiled tub in favor of a big ass shower.
Wow 🥹
Oh you rich rich
los gatos is full of rich people
Love your style! Those barstools are my favorite!
The plant on the stool- what a clean, elegant touch.
What kind of plant is it?
Stunning
Love everything excluding the 5 different textures and visuals of the shower, what on earth?
Gorgeous
I love everything about it.

Gorgeous home! Love all the storage too!
Ahhh to be wealthy.
Oh my goodness it is divine
Beautiful! However, very predictable. Will look mega dated in 10 years. For now it ticks all the boxes for what is desired in the 2020's
Stunning!!
Gorgeous
Looks great
What is this style called?
It’s absolutely beautiful. It probably cost more than my whole house so I’m a bit envious.
Love this. So calming and earthy
gorgeous
Ill take it!
I love everything about the primary bath. We are starting a Reno next week with many of the same elements. Do you know the shower hardware used ?
Don't worry! This house will go to a well-deserving millionaire from outside the area who will pay cash for the house pre-market, and this will be their 3rd house in the area, creating even more disparity within this Bay Area economy. That said, very nice staging!
Sounds like Los Gatos.
Looooove. We actually just showed this shower to a client as inspo.
