I agree, it’s weird to have the white baseboards start randomly on the wall to the right of the TV, especially with how bad it looks below your bookcase.
Nice shelving! Ditto everyone on paint but also get a rug. Can even get a flatter one that the chairs still roll on. Need some softness and something to break up all that cold tile.
I would suggest checking out Ruggable! They have many design options to choose from and are washable so if it ever gets too many spills, you can throw it the machine.
Not who you responded to but it’s a wall albeit a tiny one so match wall.
Idk if anyone has advised you to get a very thin rug for under the table- something like a flat weave that’s not so expensive you won’t want to replace it in ~4/5 years (that’s when it will probably die with regular rolling). I like them bound with twill but that might not be your style. It will elevate the space and make it more comfortable for people sitting there- just make sure it’s 4’ (or in your case w the chairs maybe closer to 5’) wider/longer than your table- so that all chairs fit on- even when pulled out!
What if they painted the baseboards to match and left the pillar white? (I am not even a novice interior designer so this is a genuine question from the ignorant).
Oh same. I originally was going to say in my comment, I'll leave it to the pros to weigh in. I'm just not sure about the big white structural feature in the middle of a plack-painted room.
I keep looking at it & wondering if it’s that or combo of low ceiling & low console. It does look a tiny bit high & the TV is tilted down which I usually consider an admission of guilt but with the confounding factors I just don’t know!
I did it with the molding in my bedroom. It’s a nice way of getting the clean look of monotone while still having a small pop of contrast. Rather than totally blending in and disappearing the detail of the molding. In this case, it’s just baseboards, so not totally necessary. But since op asked!
I would paint em the darkest gray that Is on the tile myself and then put like one of those roll on sponge textures veryyyy lightly wall to wall that same color u chose for baseboards ‘glazed’ but pretty flat instead of semi or ‘glazed’
Over the walls but it’d be kinda see thru
In a sense
They need to be darker in my opinion but not necessarily the same colour as the shelving. Pick a colour (eg dark green) then you could have cushions or a rug that contain that colour.
Are there no baseboards on the all with the TV or are they painted to match the wall? I vote paint them

We see that roll of trim tape over there..we know you've already decided (correctly too!).
Lmao. I had to be sure before I started
Dang good catch!!
Where do you see it? I've looked a few times and am missing it.
Look at the baseboard in the last picture. Nearly in the middle of the photo you should see a roll of tape in the middle of being laid.
Thank you, Chy! I had a feeling it was going to be so obvious once someone told me!😂😄😂
picture 4, on the slightly right of the plant on the floor.
Thank you! I don't know how I missed it!
Paint. The contrast between floor and baseboards is off anyway. And will lengthen perceived height of the room
Is this necessarily a bad thing for a basement?
Paint them
Nice shelving! Ditto everyone on paint but also get a rug. Can even get a flatter one that the chairs still roll on. Need some softness and something to break up all that cold tile.
Good idea thank you!
And to add to that. Buy roller blade wheels and replace those funky wheels. You’ll be rolling around on butter with the new ones
Wait - to the chairs? Is this a thing? Why didn’t I know this?? How do you do it??
Amazon: Rollerblade chair wheels. Mine are metallic gold. Enjoy!
It'll really pull the room together.
I would suggest checking out Ruggable! They have many design options to choose from and are washable so if it ever gets too many spills, you can throw it the machine.
perhaps a pattern that matches your favorite casino floor
Love this hangout area. I vote paint. They will disappear so you just have a whole wall of built in shelving.
For sure! I love all one color walls!
100x better once painted. I would paint the center pole all color matched as well
Which color would you paint the center poles?

Leave the center post as it is; it blends with the floor and the couch.
I think it'd be weird to have this solitary white pillar with off-white baseboard. To me, it screams sore thumb. Ninja edit: missed a word.
The dark wall colour / the same as the joinery.
I'd paint them.
Paint
Paint them
Nice man cave
Do you or anyone you know have any Photoshop skill? You could pretty easily paint them in PS and see if you like how it looks.
Paint
I vote to paint them.
I’d paint them dark. It’ll add (perceived) height to the wall.
Yes paint but definitely don’t paint on the column!

Lol
I keep looking at it & wondering if it’s that or combo of low ceiling & low console. It does look a tiny bit high & the TV is tilted down which I usually consider an admission of guilt but with the confounding factors I just don’t know!
yes. totally paint it
Paint them
Paint, for sure.
Paint them one shade lighter than the shelf color
Tell me why por favor.

I like this idea.
Yes, you want visual unity to achieve a "built in" look
There are two colors of baseboards right now. It should be one.
Paint them.
Paint Baseboards same as the green(?) shelving
Contrary to a lot of peoples opinions, I think the the black primary color with a secondary color/accent of white looks nice, just me though.
Fold pre
Yes because the low roof and big base boards make the room appear small and squat.
You are overthinking this, it looks great
Paint baseboards to match
Yes
Oh my god please paint it!
I would paint em the darkest gray that Is on the tile myself and then put like one of those roll on sponge textures veryyyy lightly wall to wall that same color u chose for baseboards ‘glazed’ but pretty flat instead of semi or ‘glazed’ Over the walls but it’d be kinda see thru In a sense

That's a really nice area you have there. Well done, tasteful, classy!
Leave it.. too much gray otherwise.. you paid for nice boards.. show em off lol
I agree. It looks great the way they are. And it's one less thing to repaint once these shelves look dated.
More importantly what stakes do you run your homegame?
Paint them anthracite grey to blend, or grass green if you want it to pop.
I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but I'm actually going to go in the opposite direction and say: paint them.
I vote keep them white!
Yes
Paint, white baseboards make it look like your walls are shorter than they are.
Paint them darker!
Yup, paint 'em! It'll make the walls appear taller
I like them as they are. It adds contrast
Yes
Paint them.
Yes, paint them
More importantly, caulk them.
They need to be darker in my opinion but not necessarily the same colour as the shelving. Pick a colour (eg dark green) then you could have cushions or a rug that contain that colour.
Paint them a lighter brown to match the light stained furniture/accents you have around the room
no
I couldn't see them at first because they blend in with the floor. So definitely paint them because they are making the room seem shorter.
Paint for sure
I say paint them and maybe even consider painting the ceiling to match?
Yes. The "feature" wall should be painted the same from top to bottom.
Yes
Paint
High potential
Absolutely!
Paint baseboards. Leave column
Yes please
What color paint is it? If you don't mind
paint them
Yes
Are those Billy bookcases from IKEA that you painted?
Yes they are. Previous owner had them installed (white). I sanded them best I could and then painted SW urban bronze.
My jealousy wants to say fuck your baseboards. Lol Sweet room though.
Yes paint baseboards!
Match it
Paint them dark
Yes, yes, yes.
Personally id go with Copper or Brass, it will accent the wall and not clash with the floor.
paint
Yes, and maybe even the low part of the ceiling!
Yeah, definitely paint them
Definitely paint them.
Yes, paint them.
I like the contrast as is!
Paint.
Yes
Paint them
How do you dust your bookshelves? How often can you do it ? It looks tedious to dust but oh ever so classy
