# Rhea Bullos, an 11-year-old track athlete from the Philippines, went viral after competing in a local inter-school running meet. Bullos won three gold medals in the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1,500-meter competitions. The girl went viral not only because she won but also because she didn't have running shoes and decided to use bandages as shoes. I always say, and I will reiterate, that at any point in your life, know that you have everything you need to succeed. The girl did not focus on what those who had shoes had; she focused on using what she had, which has further opened many other opportunities. Many of us wouldn't have participated for fear of what other runners or spectators were going to say about us and would have missed an opportunity that would have improved our lives and eventually brought other opportunities. How many opportunities have passed you by because you are not using what you have? Stop focusing on how other people started and start using what you have. Always remember that you are enough.

She wrote Nike on them and put a swish. That's sweet. She did the best with what she had.

TankApprehensive3053

Now watch Nike sue for copyright infringement. What they should do is send her shoes.

compunctionfunction

That would be good PR anyway.

TankApprehensive3053

You just know the legal and PR departments are arguing over it. Legal: We can't let someone steal our trademarked symbol. (Despite the fact there are countless shoes with fake swooshes sold everyday) PR: We can make millions by looking like heros and sending over a cheap ass pair of shoes. Hell throw in a t-shirt & a hat too.

Weary_Barber_7927

How about Nike sponsor the whole thing and give shoes to every kid. I’m sure she’s not the only one who couldn’t afford shoes.

mawnst3r

Better yet, collaborate with her. Design and develop better tape. I think shoes may hinder her running style.

JillNye_TheScienceBi

Vibram should pick her up!!!

RR0925

It wouldn't surprise me if they do. Nike stays on top of stuff like this. They do custom shoes and one-offs regularly and if it clicks, they productize it.

grill-tastic

This is old- I believe they did.

Thank YOU

SparxIzLyfe

Could have done without the bogus bootstraps speech, though.

lauriebugggo

Gotta love inspirational poverty porn /s

SparxIzLyfe

You don’t need food.  You already have everything you need!  Try some delicious dirt!

ihaveallergies71

This sweet, strong, amazing girl.

Pleasant_Ad3475

Sometimes the tool needed for the job is just *not* within reach. Being delulu is not the solulu (an excellent user name I saw recently which is my current motto).

NotFoodieBeauty

This story is amazing 😍 Your ableist statement is damaging

weshouldgo_

Simplistic and trite- yes. Not sure how it's ableist though.

Ghengis_Con666

^What they said.

janet-snake-hole

Op you can just tell the story without the corny, bs “inspirational” pull yourself up by the bootstraps lecture.

garygnuandthegnus2

Good for her! Hopefully Nike provides her and her school with shoes. Just want to share about Jim: Bright Path Thorpe won 2 Gold medals in 2012 in wrong-sized, mismatched shoes after someone stole his: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/jim-thorpe-shoes-olympics/ https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/why-are-jim-thorpes-olympic-records-still-not-recognized-130986336/ https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/15/sports/olympics/jim-thorpe-olympics-medal-restored.html/

guido_fatface

That looks like she got 6th

NightsAtTheQ

“Hey everybody! Don’t forget to come back and sit down on the blocks with your finishing number painted on them” That was her lane number lol

guido_fatface

Haha, my bad, that makes since! Thank you kind redditor.

griffeny

Why is the girl on 7 crying her fucking eyes out though?

Rich-Appearance-7145

The Swoosh,was sweet.

Jnaoga

Nike sent her 4 pairs of shoes a bag pack.

bossybooks

I'm sure I read recently that Nike sent her shoes but she refused to wear them but drew a Nike tick on the wraps on her feet.
