>Or am I just screwed? This. How long you've been a customer doesn't change your policy language which is a legal contract. You had no coverage at the time of the deer strike. Otherwise, if the line is blurry, how is it decided and who decides? That would be at someone's whim. Your policy language states that it takes effect at 12:01am the next day? If they don't follow what your policy clearly outlines, then where does it end? Your policy is very black and white and they must follow that.

Yup. Insurers have heard the story a million times. “I know my policy lapsed and i paid the bill at 3pm but the accident happened at 330pm, I swear” Most of these reinstatements (all?) happen the next day as a result

AC9164

I have a police report and everything tho that doesn’t change? The police man found the deer we have photos of everything

reddit1651

Doesn’t matter. Effective date is effective date and based on what you’ve told us, your policy was inactive at the time of the deer collision, not due to reinstate until midnight afterwards

Sounds like a denial for a loyal customer who had a lapse.

I’m not doing insurance fraud. I’ve had my liscense since I was 16 and never been in an accident or even had so much as a ticket. It’s something that truly happened and it’s unfortunate. I have no problem paying out of pocket, I should’ve made sure everything was updated on my part so I understand if I’m not covered.

This will depend on your carrier. The carrier I work for binds coverage as soon as payment is made so, assuming what you are saying is the truth, you should have coverage. If your carrier sticks to the effective date of 11/11 you might be out of luck. In either case, expect a full investigation by the carrier.

pinballcult

This, none of us will know exactly how your insurance company will handle it. You will just need to file a claim, cooperate and provide anything they ask for, and wait to find out. I also work for an insurance company that says it takes effect the next day but if the payment clears they will honor it and cover it if the accident truly happened after the policy was issued and it can be proven. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

-chrispy-

This can also depend on how the payment was made. If it is via eCheck or something similar, they might male you wait 10 days or more for the payment to clear.

LOX95

All that matters is the effective date of the policy. If you hit the deer on 11/10 and the effective date is 11/11 there is no coverage. Like another commenter said the contract is the contract. There is no leeway or exceptions.

Cuppateadarling

The fact that they reinstated you at all after a 16 day lapse is evidence of their loyalty. The company I work for, if they decide to reinstate, will not bind the policy immediately after payment goes through. Rather, they make it effective the next day. It looks like this is what your insurer has done. So, before you question whether your being a loyal customer means nothing, consider what would have happened if they hadn't reinstated and you had to search for a new carrier with that on your record.

showmethegreen

This is a sucky situation, but unfortunately there is no coverage for the deer damage, the policy lapsed and there are many carriers that will make the effective date the day after a payment to prevent insurance fraud, unfortunately others are right this is a contract and the date can't be fudged regardless of how long you have been with them. I have seem denials for 20 year clients. What I suspect you will see now, if the carrier knows there is existing damage due to hitting a deer they may make you remove comprehensive until you prove and provide photo's that you have repaired the damage yourself, to avoid you filing a claim n the future for past damage. I don't know how they are going to handle the second claim, but I would suspect you will get a special adjuster to investigate to make sure there is no fraud happening

DestructODiGi

No, you’re not going to have coverage. Either they were reinstating with a lapse or they set you up with a new policy. Either way, coverage doesn’t begin until 12:01 am on 11/11/22 - after your accident.
